Fuel injector cleaner

I was just wondering if there's any reason I shouldn't use some of that fuel injector cleaner that you add to your gas tank when filling up. Thanks guys

Well you can, just buy a bottle of Redline SI1, dump it in the gas tank on your next fill up. They do work, but you won't notice much difference or any "hidden power" coming back from the abyss.

Haha I figured I wouldn't but I've got almost 50,000 miles on the car and It seemed like time to do something.

You would be better off taking your intake manifold off and cleaning out the valves, installing an OCC while doing that also.

Any mods on the car at all?

The injectors in DI engines will clog only if the car sits for too long or if it makes short trips at low loads which will allow the soot to accumulate on the injector tip and also on the nozzle. Otherwise having soot on the injector tip is fine because the nozzle will clean anything that stays in the way of the fuel spray.

If you don't have any problems with the car I'd say don't think about doing anything extreme. Pouring solvents in the engine is not necessarily the best way of taking care of the car.

As someone else stated above, if you really want to allow your car to breathe better just pull the IM and clean the intake valves.

Ok thanks guys for the much needed clarification. Someone had recommended I use the in tank stuff but I figured that was just a lazy half ass way to clean them and wasn't sure of any possible harmful effects they may have.

Well being a direct injected engine, that stuff wouldn't actually do anything to the valves because the injector is spraying directly into the cylinder so no fuel ever gets sprayed over the valves. So the only thing it COULD potentially, maybe, possibly do is get like a tiny bit of carbon build up off the top of the pistons, but even that seems unlikely.

Though I'll say it did help to band aid a misfire I had until I replaced the injector entirely with a new one. Best bet, as others have said is to take out the intake manifold and clean your valves. Search on here and you'll see there's a really good write up of how to do this.
