Yeah it ticking normally. Just the same check engine lights again. Feels like the same thing after we installed the auto tech high pressure fuel pump internals. Yeah I have an appointment at the dealership tommorow. I hope the car will make it there. About 5 miles away. Everything is put on back. I'm obviously not going to tell the dealer I was putting on aftermarket part and then it happened

I called auto tech. I didn't tell them they were used. They told me to send the old ones back and they'll inspect it and send me new ones. I hope..

Do yourself and them a favor and offer up all of the details of what you and your "mechanic" were doing. You will probably save the tech hours of headaches, and they will be grateful for that and be more willing to actually help you out.

The fail is strong here. Few things to take away, before you dig into modifying you need to do some reading. I'm not saying you need to know how to assemble a motor, heaven knows that I can't, but you need to have at least a foundation of basic knowledge of what goes where and what affects what. I'm sorry about your internals but I have never seen a failure like that, and buying them used I doubt you'll get them covered. Plus warranty with Mazda is sketchy at best, they deny shit for asinine reasons, but best of luck on both accounts.

If I tell them what me and my buddy did and tried putting on aftermarket internals, won't they void the warranty after I told them and me my buddy were started to disassemble parts and what not?

@MD1032; this guy is in Central Jersey. Maybe next time he does the install you can give him a hand?
@kryskunka; If you put the stock ones back in, I'm guessing you have something installed wrong. Are you certain the EBCS is routed properly? Can you post up a picture of that area and where the hoses are going?

I had no idea. I would have been happy to help. Depending on where he is, I can still help. I have nothing specific planned tomorrow night or this weekend.

@kryskunka; take this man up on his offer. He knows what he's doing.

Just don't let him touch your rear suspension.

I'm not home right now. And yes I'm certain the EBCS is routed properly. I'm still gunna go to the dealership tommorow but if anything I would defenitely take the man up on his offer. I'm no fucking expert mechanic. Any help is appreciated

The guy that I bought it from said his motor blew on the track from probably being raced too hard but he said it had nothing to do with the auto tech high pressure fuel pump internals. I just found this out recently btw

Go to the dealer and act stupid, they will not do anything for you if you have been tinkering on your car by yourself and especially if your not a "certified tech". Act like you have no knowledge of what's going on, don't even mention hpfp, that's why they have techs. THEY will diagnose your car and fix it. Trust me.

Oh and if your buddy used a zip tie to keep the fuel line nut from falling I'd advise cutting that off before you get to the dealer, that would def be a red flag that someone messed with it.

Yeah we didnt use any zip ties at all. Hopefully they'll just put in a brand new fuel pump and sensors and I'll be good. When I get the high pressure fuel pump internals again maybe I should get it done professionally

So I pulled my internals tonight with @sleeveless; and he can verify that the only thing we removed prior to pulling the pump was the IC shroud. We didn't even disconnect the battery.

I guess I learned my lesson after this. Definitely not buying used parts again especially this one and when I put the hpfp internals again. I'll make sure it gets done right

I doubt the internals were bad going into the ordeal personally.

Just heard back from the dealer. They said someone has been defenitely messing around with the high pressure fuel pump. They told me someone was trying to change it. I told them I don't know nothing and acted like I didn't know anything. They said if they find out its not mazda I'm gunna pay $900. But I put the stock internals back in. So I should be fine and it'll be covered under warranty?

What are you hoping to have them cover under warranty? You already replaced the broken retainer with a new one when you swapped back to stock internals, correct?

To me, it really looks like the retainer clips were not properly seated when install, causing the failure of the retainer. Which, by the way, is an OEM part reused, not an Autotech specific part.

In my opinion, you and your buddy screwed up the install beyond levels of fail I've previously seen, and neither Mazda nor Autotech owes you anything via warranty or not.

We put all the stock parts back so my buddy that did the install said I should be fine. My buddy that did the install also has a speed3 and did his auto tech internals on his as well.

Autotechs don't reuse the stock retainer, they supply one as well as the clips. Stock internals keep the retainer when you swap them with autotechs. I think KMD reused the mazda retainer? I've never installed a set of KMDs so I can't say for sure but I've done 10 sets of autotechs with great success.

This is definitely some hefty fail but since the OP doesn't seem to know what was done or how or why during the install his input is largely useless. The codes don't make sense with the broken retainer and no one here has seen the car

My head hurts from attempting to get the stories straight.....but, isn't that why Corksport has an install tool. So things like this don't happen?

If your now stock you'll be fine. they cant void your warranty for working on your own car (oil changes, replacing pads ext.). They can if you alter tho.

Which he did. In Mazda's eyes there's no reason for an end user to be removing the hpfp and they can deny a warranty claim if they can prove it was tampered with. Like when they notice the paint marking on the hpfp hardline nut doesn't match with the mark on the pump fitting. Or when they see tool marks on the bolts.

I actually recommend the AT internals because it's faster, easier, and simpler to install them than the CS's. No tools are needed whatsoever and you cannot fuck up seating the keepers.

Meanwhile if you don't install the CS ones correctly, you get this:

If you have CorkSport Fuel Pump Internals, you need to read this!!

I felt bad for OP, but after lying, that stance has changed.

First you lied to Autotech and tried to get them to warranty a part you didn't purchase new from them. If you were just honest about what happened, they might have helped/replaced/gave you a discount towards a purchase of new internals. Now you are here lying to your dealer about what you did, and hoping they will cover your/your buddy's fuck up. Mazda isn't stupid, they will know you and your buddy fucked around with the pump, hell, some people on here work for Mazda, so who's to say they haven't already seen your posts.

All of this could have been avoided by following one of the many install guides/videos on the internet here to install your internals.

Let this be a lesson as to why you should do your own work, and if you don't know how, ask questions on here, search the internet, don't just let "a buddy" install something "because he did it before". If you can find porn online, you can find an install guide.

What I'm not getting is why should autotech and Mazda have to pay for your buddy's fuck up. Sometimes you just have to be a man, admit you fucked up and roll with the punches to correct said fuck up.

I was paranoid I was going to screw something up when I did my internals install and part of the worry was, "I'm fucking with something and if I fuck it up, it's on me and my wallet to fix." That's part of the modding game though, hope for the best outcome, but prepare for the worst.

OP, sorry to hear your internals shit the bed and hopefully you get everything resolved without someone getting the screwjob.

Yeah your right. I knew what I was getting myself into for sure. I just didn't think it was going to go bad honestly. I'm going to hear back from the dealer Tuesday and they'll tell me if the warranty will cover it.. I doubt it though, they know it was touched most likely

I would expect them to not cover this. I'll help anybody but I'm not going to lift a finger to help someone that straight up lies to me and I guarantee you they KNOW. @MD1032; gave you the best advice I've seen in this entire thread on post 84.
