Bluetooth Audio Display

I just got my 2012 mazdaspeed 3 and started bluetooth streaming. On the audio info display it says something like "BT Audio". How come the audio information such as the song name, album name...etc is not showing up? I have iphone 4s running on ios 5 and it supports AVRCP 1.3. Any advice?

Also when Im streaming the music using bluetooth, the playback button at the center console does not pause the music.... whys that?

I have a 2010 and I have the same issue. Running off an iPhone 4S as well.

I haven't tried to pause though.

I'd like to know why it isn't pulling up the information too.

My 2011 MS3 is capable of showing track info. Like @Omophorus said, the issue lies with the device playing the music.

The nightly builds of the Cyanogenmod7 ROMs I used to run on my phone had at least AD2P + AVRCP 1.3 support (saw it in one of the changelogs a while back), and the MID showed the song's metadata just fine.

Correction on the stock Droid X showing metadata on the MID: sorry, I asked my fiancee about it, and she said her X was rooted with a custom ROM as well at the time. She has since gone back to the stock DX ROM and her song info doesn't show up on my MID either

It was a nice perk, sure, but having personally seen and used it for about a month, I don't really miss it. But that's really because my track info already shows on my dash-mounted phone, so the MID showing my track info was kind of redundant.

The iPhone only has lame 1.0 AVRCP support, which is why you don't get track info.

There is a protocol called A2DP which is what is used to actually stream the audio via bluetooth. There is another protocol called AVRCP which lets the receiving device (the car, in this case) act as a remote control for the streaming device. A2DP + AVRCP is how you can stream music from an iPhone and control it via the car.

AVRCP 1.0, which is all the iPhone supports, just gives basic play/stop/next/previous type crap.

AVRCP 1.3 does all that and adds metadata support (your track info).

AVRCP 1.4 does all that plus media browsing, including multi-device media browsing.

The MS3 supports at least AVRCP 1.3, so if you got a phone (or Apple got its act together) with the same level of AVRCP support, you'd get all of your playback controls plus track info. I'm also an iPhone user, and I have not looked into what phones (if any) support AVRCP 1.3+, so if that feature is important to you, you'll need to do your own research. At this point, I've just learned to live with not having metadata, but it does suck.

It has nothing to do with the Bluetooth version, it has to do with the AVRCP version.

I see, so I just looked up the gs2 and the amaze are the only ones in the Tmo line up that have avrcp 1.3....

So I'm assuming these would be able to give you the track info?

It's weird, on my 2010 3 sport the pause would work with my iphone4s, but it doesn't on my new 2012 MS3?!?!

HTC EVO 4G, running Cyanogenmod7 displays song/album/artist, but doesn't display tracktime (although it displays 0:00, instead of the nothing it used to). About 1/4 of the time, it doesn't update on a new track... but typically will on the next one.

*edit: I guess I should add, that's on a '12 w/ tech. Play/Pause and Track FWD/BK both work.

The solution for Android users is simple: root and flash a Cyanogenmod 7.1 nightly ROM

iOS brothers are gonna have to figure out the AVRCP issue on their own

Yep, just to back up @ahfunaki - the GS2 or Amaze should provide track info if they support AVRCP 1.3.

There's always a chance of lame partial 1.3 support (I'm always wary about claims of supporting standards, too many companies have done it with caveats for too long), but more than likely everything will be hunky dory.

Officially, Apple doesn't claim to support any particular revision of AVRCP, but if you look at the features they say they support, it's clearly 1.0 or something similar. It's entirely possible that they implemented some goofy variation of the vanilla 1.0 standard, which could cause conflicts between devices sending commands via AVRCP and the iPhone itself.

I'm not saying that's what's going on, but it is certainly one fairly logical possibility. It's entirely possible Mazda tweaked their AVRCP implementation across model years or across various stereo options (did/do you have the Bose package in either car?) and the result is a weird mismatch between the pause command the car is sending and the pause command the phone is expecting.

The bummer with non-standard ROMs like Cyanogen is that there's always risks of weird issues like that. One would hope they did a good job with AVRCP 1.3, but given that it's not in most mainline Android builds, it's entirely possible something is messed up and misbehaving.

Well....if all my searching, and reading this thread correctly is any help. I hope my choice for my next upgrade being the droid razor should do the trick. it supports avrcp 1.4. Should be one of the better, if not arguably the best smart phone kicking for my shifty verizon plan. I think....

It's the shit iPhone. I'm using a jailbroken iPhone4, I use the "music control" tweak, it always me to change tracks with the wheel control or the head unit.

Don't all iphones allow you to control through the wheel/hu? You don't need to be jailbroken for your bluetooth audio to work.

Maybe on the IOS 5.0 but I'm back at 4.0 and I needed to jailbreak to use the wheel contols. Pause and play worked when the phone had factory settings.

What IOS are you on?
I know apple made an update after 4.0 that gave the iPhone better capablilaty with Bluetooth connection. Lots of people were complaining about having cheap phones that displayed contacts and track listing.

Or maybe I just got the shitty iPhone or Mazda...

Droid Razr works as well. I just installed the isimple gateway though so now I get a direct connection for ipod and sat and I get track info as well.

I always thought it was just one of those things you set yourself, and you navigate to that page to see how many more days or miles you have left until the next maintenance service

You should have figured this out by now, but you go into the settings page by clicking the info button on your steering wheel. You'll find it.

Ok so here's the deal with Bluetooth and iPhones...

The iPhone will not show track data in the 10+ mazda for some stupid reason(I've spent hours trying to figure this out). Droids however will. The iPhone shows the track data in other cars (Toyota for instance)

The pause button DOES WORK you just have to double click it really fast for some strange reason.

There is a slight delay but not as bad as the bluetooth. I haven't tried it at all but I'm pretty sure there would be no way to sync video. I'm pretty sure it is only audio.
