Rear view camera on tech package gen 2

Anybody have a way to integrate a rear view camera on 2013 gen 2 factory tech package radio?

My bud's '14 Mazda 6 has what appears to be the same head unit / nav display, and it comes with a backup camera in the most basic trim - so I'd speculate the connections are there and the functionality might be as well. It behaves like the same firmware, so who knows.

I'll see what I can find for '14 6 parts numbers, but being so new I probably have to talk to the dealership.

Called dealer, parts numbers for head units are completely different, as in they don't look like even a sequential S/N change.

I talked to the dealer about it and said that the cx5 and cc7 units are near the same but there is no part they could order for a rear view camera they only come installed from the factory and not a dealer order option. Also the Cara that do have it are automatics so the system wouldn't have a way to know you go into reverse with the manual setup.

Gotcha well just passing along what I've been told talking with a tech, service, and parts manager trying to order the parts needed.

You just have to order the parts as replacement parts, not as a kit. Every so often we do this for F150's & Ram's

I purchased a backup cam kit from ebay (ill find the link tomorrow) for $130 shipped.
The kit was completely plug and play, connected into the back of the head unit and just routed it to the back bumper. As soon as I put the car in reverse the head unit powered up the backup cam. This kit did not need power from the reverse lights.

I don't have the OEM head unit but one of the Chinese I dash units and I ordered one of the backup cameras that replace the lens of the license plate light off eBay for $25. Looks to have the same connections as the link above me. Works great and most people can't even see if. Very OEM in my opinion.

I don't know how well it works, but one of the lesser expensive stereo equipment manufacturers sells a universal kit @ pep boys which replaces your rear view mirror with another that contains a small screen.

I'll find a link.

I had mine connected to my Caska headunit. As far as the camera I had one that replaced one of the license plate lights.

I've found some further information on the unit I posted above. I've emailed a couple of additional people and found that the price was around $210 AUD at the start of the year. If its still the same price, that equates to about $195 currently. If I can get ahold of anyone over there I'll see if I can get a wholesale price and become a US retailer for these units after I test one for myself.

In case your curious, here's what the field of view will look like on your 2013. You can't remove the grid lines and they don't move when you turn the wheel. Still looks good though. Anything that helps with the blind spots on our cars is worth while imo.

yeah that is like the ford system..those grid lines do not move or go away....that's why it is very important that you center the camera the best you can by the tag. Thank you for the pictures.

I like that. Options like this are better as I don't like cutting holes in cars if they don't need them.

Had a similar camera on my Gen1. Car DVD Player, Car Electronics, Car Accessories at Qualir has a few different ones. One thing I would suggest is spending the extra money and getting a CCD camera over a CMOS camera. At night and in low light my CMOS camera was pretty much useless. CCD's are better in low light situations.
