What is this device? Broken FOG lights

My fog lights stay on when car is on or off and voltage reads 8volts when car is on or off.
I took off the bumper and replaced the bulbs and 1 of the h11 connectors but found this device that looks like it is in really bad shape. Maybe it is sucking power?

What is this thing on the same wiring hardness section as my fog lights?

fog light relay, its supposed to be clipped into a spot just under the passenger side headlight. kind of important that its oriented vertically or the green death sets in and you can end up with the problems your talking about.

So the relay and relay socket/wire harness was really messed up. Needs to be replaced.
I looked up the price and the relay was around $15 but the wire harness with socket for the relay was around $85. Just way to much for a socket.

on this diagram, F-03 is the problem.
I also have same color wiring as this picture. Grey, Orange, Green, and Light Green.
I see constant 12v power on grey wire when fuse is plugged in
If I connect power to Light green the fog lights turn on. AKA grey to light green
When light switches are turned on, if i remember correctly I also see 12v from orange to green or green to orange.



So I have some universal relays with 1 wire harness and also a few 2008 mazda 3 relays.
I dont have any duplicate relays for the one that burned out.

Out of the ones that have markings I have 2 relays with 30, 86, 85, 87 pins
I tested both relays and they engage.

This is a good representation of relay i am hoping to use.



I have 2 questions,

1-Anyone know how to wire this in?

2-I did blow a fuse at one point so I am not sure if I burned out whatever Orange and Green is connected to... Is there anyways I can replace the green wire with a new grounding wire to replace the orange or green wire.

****just realized maybe the universal wiring harness is messed up...

Can I connect the orange wire coming from front fog light switch to the green wire?
Is this in the steering wheel column?

No
Orange is the signal +, and green the signal ground...These 2 would go to 85-86 You may have polarity issue if the relay have a diode built in. You better try it first directly on your car battery if it activate, note which one is positive and it will go with the orange cable.

Grey and light green would go on 30 and 87 (don't bother with polarity for this step)

Is there anyway to tell if it uses diode? Both my relays click when they activate

Usually the diode is installed in the socket and clearly visible.

If you connect 85/86 incorrectly generally the diode will pop, it's only there to limit flyback voltage, so the relay will still work.

There is no diode in the oem relay, so it wont matter if your replacement relay doesn't have one.

thats true with that kind of relay you would see it, at the connector unless someone tampered with it and soldered it inside...(The remote start/alarm kind of relay aren't sealed so the cap is easily removable)

If you really want to know how to check for a diode, you need a multimeter at diode scale or 2k ohms....But being wired to a low impedance coil, the bad polarity would give a lower reading in ohms...but it get a bit tricky if you never played with that kind of thing. (If the coil impedance is above 900, the result will be the opposite so understanding what you have is important)
It is better to look for a diode and the side where the white stripe would be, is the side that will use the positive source of signal to activate it.
