What's wrong with my Dashcam? HELP!!

For over a year, I had an Ivation Dashcam set up in my car and LOVED having it. Recently, I did my first car-electronics project and "hardwired" it. I bought a hardwire kit off of Amazon and an add-a-fuse. I ran the wire to the fusebox, crimped on the add-a-fuse and plugged it back into the cigarette slot with an extra 5 fuse, grounded the wire to a bolt in the fuse box compartment, and everything was working fine. After a few days, I realized that the camera wasn't automatically turning on anymore. Even with the original cables, I couldn't get the camera to turn on again -- even from the cigarette lighter wire, and I know that there was power. I replaced the camera, and everything was fine for several days, and now I noticed that the camera isn't turning on again, and just like before, it seems dead. What am I doing wrong and how do I fix it so that I stop blowing thru these cameras?!? Please help...

Maybe the camera itself is junk? Maybe the hardwire kit is bad and sending voltage spikes to the camera?
I have been using wedge style dash cams (Viofo A118C or A119) with a cheap ebay hardwire kit with no issues.

It isn't a "top-of-the-line" camera, but I had no issues for over a year with the provided cigarette charger. I have NO experience with auto electronics and figured this was an easy into project. I even used a smaller fuse to "protect" it. It's driving me crazy. I'm sure whatever I did wrong is some common n00b mistake.
