Default Drain plug for oil?

Anyone know the torque spec on this? Gave it one slight grunt last night doing my first oil change. No leaks. Looks like an aluminum pan so I didn't want to go nuts on it.

Wrxified:

I usually just got a 1/4 turn after its tight, no need to go tighter as you mentioned its an aluminum pan.

Can I ask how much oil you added when you did your change? My 1st Gen used to take between 5.7 and 5.8 quarts.

TIA!

Thanks. I think that's about what I used almost 6 quarts counting the oil filter. I was surprised that it took so much when I read the manual.

Dre, did you have to take the Mobil 1 to the dealer when they changed the oil?

I got free oil changes with the purchase of my new car, however, the salesman said they put semi synthetic in it. So the question is do I need to bring my own oil or is the dealer oil ok?

Hopefully I will be able to just "upgrade" my free oil change to synthetic. The salesman told me they use a blend, but I have no idea how much he actually knows about the oil changes. I guess I will have to give the service department a call.

One other question, when did you guys do your first oil change? The dealer said to bring it in at 5000 miles, but I am not sure I feel comfortable with that. I have never let a brand new engine go much past 1000 miles without a change.

Dre - opt_ms3 is saying it's a spin on. You said the dealer told you it was a cartridge. They gave you the wrong info unless the cars sold in FL are different than what we're getting everywhere else. I've changed the oil 3x on my gen 2. It's a spin on oil filter like opt_ms3 stated.

Just changed the oil for the 2nd time today - in about 25 degrees (alright I was in the garage, but the door was open) - it uses the ph9566 in fram. Not sure about other filter makes, but def spin-on. I'm surprised by how "light" the engine feels again, much smoother. Thought I'd just been getting used to the car's power, but it definitely felt sluggish before the change (after 5k) compared to after. Maybe that fuel dilution problem? Used 5W-30 full synth mobil1 at 1500, then tried 0W-30 full synth mobil1 today. Anyone have any thoughts on the 0W-30?

Without a doubt in your head. If your car felt sluggish just before an oil change and then you somehow picked up noticeable power then I feel sorry for your engine. Fuel dilution is something that will only be noticed over an extended period (many oil changes) eventually creating measureable wear on internal engine components. We're talking like 50k+ miles. I know the feeling you're referring to and would explain it to the same feeling you get after you ate well for the day and then worked out. Your not faster, you just feel good because you took care of yourself (car in this case).

The 0w means you have a thinner oil at start up temps so it's great oil for cars like yours and mine in the northern states during the winter months. Other than that it's still a 30 weight oil at normal engine temps.

One other question, when did you guys do your first oil change? The dealer said to bring it in at 5000 miles, but I am not sure I feel comfortable with that. I have never let a brand new engine go much past 1000 miles without a change.

I changed mine at 500 miles to castrol syntec 5W30. The oil that comes from the factory has all kinds of assembly lube and such in it so swapping it out before 5000 is a good idea

My dealer told me to do the first change at 1500 miles. I've only got about 200 right now, though. Just for future referrence, how difficult is this filter to access? I imagine it's not visible unless you're under the car or the answer to "spin-on vs. cartridge style" would not have even come up.

Thanks.

very easy. In the 2010 the undercarriage splash guard has an opening in it to access your Spin-on filter.
