For what it's worth, I checked my lugs and found that they were torqued to 80 lb/ft. I have no idea if the factory or the port or the dealer set them, but they're within the specified range. 80 is a nice round number, so I'm sticking with it.

Hope this helps...
How often do you guys check it ?

First time I did rotation within a week front was loose. With help of this forum figured it out

Did the front brakes with help of friend from here . We did 85 lb.

4 weeks now front loose again !!!!

I've never used a torque wrench on lug nuts. That's for women.

Fail, men have to use torque wrenches do they don't over tighten things.

I disagree, when it comes to lug nuts at least. It's best practice to use a torque wrench but for a street car proper lug wrench tightening is good enough.

I have occasionally had a few become loose after 5k miles, which I noticed when rotating tires.

I have since upped my torque from 80 ft-lbs to 100 ft-lbs and so far it hasn't been an issue again.

My front left wheel almost fell off the other day driving about 40mph. I heard wub-wubs so I turned down the dubstep and I still heard wub-wubs so I pulled over. 3 of the 5 lugs were just finger tight. I carry a 150 ft-lb torque wrench and a 26" 1/2"-drive breaker bar in my car for dealing with lug nuts. Coulda been a bad day.

And I now use 85 instead of 80. I check all 4 wheels every 2 weeks or so since it only takes a few minutes. I have gorilla small diameter lugs if it matters.

We torque pretty much all mazdas to 87 at my work with a 25 mile retorque, works great, never had a wheel fall off or stripped studs

New to running offset plates. wanted to try a wider track to launch on factory tires. currently exiting 60' at 2.007-2.05. plan on trying the 5mm spacers I have on wed. I originally torqued in a cross pattern in 2 steps: 60, then 85. after reading some here I backed off to 75 on the stock studs. car has 5900mi on it. there is a small amount of anti seize on the threads. thoughts. anyone know what lugs I will need if I run an arp stud or can I stay with stock. thanks guys. Only a fucking moron would put anti seize on wheel studs.

I must be a fucking moron then.

Antiseize on lug nuts is a much debated topic. I'm all for it, never given me a problem. I've had OEM studs break under normal use (on my speed an on other cars), especially if the wheels are coming off often. Until actual empirical evidence says its dangerous I'll continue to use it (anecdotes need not apply).

so will corrosion, thread deformation and dirt. Those are hard to avoid.

When my wheels fall off from usin antiseize on the studs I'll let you guys know and admit defeat. I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything, just offering the other side of the coin on this argument. I also run 5mm spacers which some people believe is dangerous, but at the same time I have extended ARP studs for lots of threading on the lug nuts. Lots of variables.

They are dangerous with the oem studs/lugs. I was running the JBR 5mm spacers with the oem studs/lugs at 100 lbs of torque and I still ended up ejecting 4 lugnuts from my front passenger wheel in a month. Needless to say, I am not running spacers anymore.

Why would you add anti seize to a load bearing thread? To allow it to unthread easier? To add a variable to contribute to fail?

I realize that, that's why I changed them. When I put my wheels on with the spacers there was not nearly enough thread engagement so I ordered new studs ASAP.

Anti-seize is, as the name implies, is used to keep metals from seizing. I understand that is is a lubricant to a degree but that is not its main purpose. And having taken my wheels off a few times since putting the AS on there I feel no change in threading the lug nuts on....on the OEM studs they are all different and feel more resistant. I feel more confident in the torque spec on the AS lugs than I do on the OEMs

I know this is an old thread but there is a ton of bad information.
Anti seize changes the torque on the surfaces it's in contact with. You will never get the proper torque numbers, it reduces the space between the stud and fastener. If you care about the proper torque don't use it, if you care about ease of fastener removal than use it but you can't have both. Sometimes the manufacturer will use and recommend, they've accounted how it changes the torque.

The main reason you torque your wheels besides keeping them on the car, is prevent your wheels and brakes from distorting or warping. Over torque a lug it will cause your rotors to warp.

They make torque sticks for impacts that restrict how much torque the impact is putting on the fastener. We used them at honda but I still double checked them with my torque wrench.
If the manual or manufacturer calls for a certain torque and you still have oem parts, that's what it needs to be.
