Default Site Moving - Details Inside

We are set to move to our new home in two weeks. Ill give you a breakdown on it.

Our current home is sitting in the projects. Not much parking, not much room. Soooo, we are moving to the land of luxury to a new datacenter:

2 Quad Core Xeons, Harpertown Core, 2.6 Ghz a piece, which gives us 8 processors:

4 Gigs of ECC DDR2 Ram. I can goto 32 Gig

Harddrives with be set on a Raid 6 Areca Card (ARC-1230) which has 12 ports. Waiting for more of the 500 gig Sata2 enterprise drives to become available before i fill all 12 slots up.

OS of course is Fedora 7 Core. Not willing to go to 8 at this time. Both 32 bit and 64 bit reside.

The sites bandwidth is going up but we are still well below exceeding it. I can go un-metered when needed. So, there is no problem there and the cost is quite minimal.

Server was a huge chunk of change and assembled by yours truly. If we lease hardware, we end up paying the same amount in one year, but dont own anything. By year two, we are throwing money away. Not something im going to do, when it can be used for many other things like another server for hosting game servers.

Thanks for your donations, as they help with the monthly costs for server maintenance, bandwidth and future upgrades.

More cool stuff in the works, more spots for moderators as well. Shortly, there will be an application form for moderator if you're interested in such a position.

In a few months, we will begin to raffle stuff off, soooo i look forward to giving back to the community. Thanks everyone for your support!

Kevin

Raid, unless on a quality card like an Areca, can suck.

Most certainly it can. Raid 5 & 6 use multiple drives to rebuild the array on the fly. Also, you read / write fly through the roof with multi drive spanning. If you have a bad drive, pop a new one in and its rebuilt on the fly. Nothing lost. Ill have 4 spares waiting for failure.

If you use Raid found on motherboards, usually only offering 0 or 1, it plain sucks.
