Here are some pics of the new no pattern knobs. The red is red but looks a little orange due to my poor picture taking abilities.

Applications:
All Mazdas, Hondas, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Nissan/Infiniti and Kia!

I got one of the factory seconds you were selling a few days ago - when it gets here I'm gonna do a compare vs. the e4 weighted shift knob I have.

I might start a thread titled "in pursuit of shifting greatness" or something because I also plan on trying out different combinations of shifter weights, knobs, fluids, etc. to get the feel I want.

For reference, I came from an s2000 so I'm going for as close to that as possible - "notchy" (I'd personally call it detailed, where you can feel the gate really well) and smooth.

I saw that superskaterxs made a different short throw kit that requires drilling the shifter assembly under the console, so I'd be interested in trying that, but honestly I like what the short throw plate + adjustment does for the shifter feel.

I wonder if you'd be willing to work with superskaterxs to come up with a combo kit? Maybe a less aggressive short throw shift plate combined with his shifter thing? I'm thinking that way, you could avoid rubbing altogether and still get a dramatic reduction in throw, without having to buy a f*cking expensive TWM kit. If you guys ever do work something out, I'd 100% be willing to play guinea pig for development.

I understand what you are in search of and I hope you find the feel and performance that you're looking for. I'll be happy to provide you with as much assistance as I can.

Now, I think readers may be a bit confused about what superskaterxs has/is doing. His adapter is designed for a MAZDA 3 not a MAZDASPEED 3. The shifters are completely different. The MAZDA 3 cable mounting bracket on the shifter is all flat allowing for such an adapter to be attached. The MAZDASPEED 3 cable mounting bracket is nothing like that of the MAZDA 3. It has a huge reinforcement bulge pressed in to it. Therefore there is NO surface area to drill and bolt the adapter to. Pop your boot off and take a look you see exactly what I'm talking about.

From a business perspective I would not even consider selling a product that required drilling. Asking a noob to drill=BAD. The support headache would be a nightmare. The only reason TWM got by with it for the MAZDASPEED 6 was because it was the ONLY solution. If I was around back in 06'-07' I would have owned that market. I still sell so many MS6 kits it's amazing. The feedback on them has been tremendous.

If this was even an option for the MAZDASPEED 3 it would have been done already by me or maybe TWM. The other problems besides the drilling, even if it was possible on the GEN 1 MS3, is the bulge created in the shift boot and the holes in the boots that have been known to happen. Also there is NO room in the console to have the extended arm on the GEN 2 MS3. That's why TWM first came out with the shift plate for 1.5 million dollars and the full replacement shifter for 4.5 million dollars.

As for my kits rubbing...Most if not all rubbing has been eliminated and has not been an issue or even mentioned more than maybe twice in the last year.

Phillyb version...Drilling bad, no workie on the MS3

Thanks,
Jamie

Ok, didn't realize it was for the regular 3.

I'm not too far off from the feel I'm looking for, I figure a different counter weight and ford motocraft/redline fluid and I should be 90% there - I would imagine the driver's and passenger's side mounts would get me the rest of the way there.

I know I sound like a broke record, but getting a heavy shift knob and raising it up was a tremendous step in the right direction. Although, I wouldn't have done it without your shift plate - the combination of those 3 things has made the shifter infinitely better.

The plate made it more direct and transmitted more feel to the whole thing - it's the "notchy" or "detailed" part that I was talking about. With the knob down to the boot, the throws were too short for me though, and the effort was more than what I was looking for - raising the knob solved both of those problems and I'm so glad I did it.

Sorry for the long ass posts, I do tend to obsess about shifter feel though.

Just got my knob today. Is there a way to make it sit a little lower? There is about a half inch of exposed metal between the knob and the boot.

Got the knob and installed it today.

Throws feel great now. The increased leverage really does take a lot of that knotchy feel out. You still get a solid 'click'. But you feel that extra knotchy 'click' less if at all. I like the powdercoated texture on the knob as well.

When I got the knob I was scared that it would be so heavy that it would ruin the spring back factor of the shifter, but it springs back just as fast even with the increased weight.

It takes a little bit of doing getting the knob to fit on perfectly by adjusting the jam nut - But other then that it is an easy install.

IMO, I don't know much about machining - But the install would be 50% easier if you had threads on the nut portion of that adaptor Jamie. It is a bit of a pain threading it.

Thanks!! I'm glad you like my knob.

The adapter is designed that way on purpose. That is how the knob locks on and stays in place. If there were threads all the way up it would just spin in your hand.

I guess I am the monkey with no thumbs cuz this literally took me almost the full 30 minutes lol. However, this is why I don't mod because I always mess shit up.

I did everything really quickly up until the part where you actually had to set it to get the pattern correct. I literally had to adjust it like 25 times. It got really annoying but I finally figured it out in the end.

A word of advice, once you get the height of the adapter and the nut set, screw the knob down until it gets tight. Then, what I did was, look at that pattern, whatever position it is in, and START SCREWING THE KNOB DOWN EXACTLY LIKE THE PATTERN THAT YOU SAW WHEN IT WAS ALL THE WAY DOWN AND LOCKED. THIS, IN EFFECT, SHOULD MAKE THE 6 SPEED PATTERN LINE UP PERFECTLY.

^^that probably doesn't make any sense, but it makes sense to me. If I had thought of that sooner, I would have only needed to adjust it once, instead of just playing Russian Roulette 25 times hoping that it would line up.

Also, one last thing, I would recommend this knob to anyone. I haven't driven with it yet, but the driveway shifts feel good and there is a lot less crunch in the gears. This is my only 'mod' and my car is otherwise bone stock.

And btw, Jamie is a great seller. His customer service is second to none. He actually phoned me to explain a question I was having. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one of his products.

Just ordered a black one w/ red inlay. Didn't need it but seems like a good purchase. I love being bored at work. Thanks for a good product

No you don't. The thing makes your car sound broke. But... The performance gains are insane. Literally zero wheel hop.

CPE just released their driver side and passenger side mounts, they're pricey but I hear they're great. No added vibes or noise much but the performance is still there. Aside from their current release of those, no one else had driver-side mounts besides TRZ's tranny mount.

So it's wrinkle powercoated...meaning if it's sitting my car on a nice hot summer day i'm gonna need a towel or gloves like most of the metal shift knobs around? or does the wrinkle actually help reduce the temperature effects vs the polished types?

I used to have an E4 polished knob. I have noticed the wrinkle on jamies knob does not get as hot. It still gets hot, but my hand does not sizzle like it did with the polished.

On a side note.....I love talking about jamies knob

When I say Jamies gets hot, I meant really warm. I have not needed a sock or towel over the wrinkle knob.

Look at it this way, if you go through TWM, I think their shipping is as much as Jamies knob.

Honestly I don't think it's that bad. Yeah it gets warm but not blistering hot. I think the coating and the grooves around it help to dissipate the heat although I have no facts to back that up.

I do use a sun shade when my car is parked in the sun for long periods and that i know helps too.

Thanks,
Jamie

DSC_0011.JPGWell I got my special edition knob in the mail today and all I can really say is...HOLY FUCKING SHIT. Jamie bro your knob is fucking amazing. I am in love with jamies knob I cant help it. As far as it goes the install was easy as hell I took a differant approach and thankfully it worked out perfect. Literally didnt have to make any adjustments. I was prob lucky but I dont care. As you can see if my sig I have pretty much all of Jamie's products on my car and Jamie thank you man. I have fallen in love with my car all over again. RSB on stiffest setting=go cart like handling seriously. Dog bone RMM=hardly any vibes I guess unless your a pussy and a totally planted feel I wouldnt trade it for anything. SSP bushings weight and Heavy knob=self shifting car it just knows were the gears are its great. Yeah I know the car is Dirty as hell but I wanted to show the JBR Decals on the car as well other one sits the exact same way in the exact same spot on the other side. Thanks for everything Jamie

Just ordered one of your knobs Jaime! My car is 100% stock, when I install the knob will I notice a very substantial difference or should I have paired it with something else?

Substantial.....it's a pretty noticeable difference yes. They're typically paired with a short shift plate to offset the bit of additional effort need to shift.

Probably not. Gloss black is very difficult to get an imperfection free coating every time, it's slick in the hand and will show micro scratches pretty quick.

A round knob is on the way but I'm working on getting some other things finished first. There will be no changes to the current knob; its very popular they way it is.

Thanks,
Jamie
