Default Aaron's terbow build (MS6)

Hi i was wondering if i can use a hks ssqv that was on my friends supra on mai car?!?
..........
........
......
....
..
.
Ok, i plan on going BT in the next couple of months. However, im having trouble deciding on what turbo to use (300-350 AWH initially)! Already decided im not going with the Standard 3071/3076/35r unless i get one used for a steal. I aim to run a journal bearing unit for less moneez and am prepared to adjust driving habits for this choice. This is what im currently looking at:

Precision 5454e http://www.precisionturbo.net/turboc...-5454E-MFS/474

Garrett T3/60-1 (too big?)Turbocharger, Garrett T3/60-1 with Stage III turbine wheel and 60-1 compressor wheel, journal bearin : atpturbo.com

Comp Turbo CT2-5558 (questionable Integrity?) Comp Turbo CT2-5558 Entry Level Turbocharger (490HP) - Modern Automotive Performance

Im thinking the Garrett may be the best choice so that i can make use of various ATP parts if needed. Maybe the 4 bolt to Vband adapter will match up nicely with the ebay Vband downpipe? if not im prepared to make modifications to the dp.

The Comp turbo is priced considerable lower and ive gathered mixed reviews on them; Shitty turbos/Lasts for years, Gey customer service/No questions warranty claims, ect.

The Precision is, well, a Precision.

I plan on going with a Steed Speed t3 Ewg mani for this build. And all Supporting mods will be done as well:
-3.5 intake
-OCC,
-Injector seals
-3 bar
-Tr8
-44mm EWG
-Possibly a ported IM at the time of injector seal install. Oil lines/fittings will be diy obviously and ill need to find out fitting attributes for whichever choice i make.

Ricer logic determines ill be running 20-25lbs of boost for these turbos' efficiency ranges. Low tq bcuz shtock brock. Late spool time does not really concern me because i have no plans of launching my car and rarely go WOT from a stop. This will be a buttery roll racer.

As for my concerns; Im worried that with any of these choices, the turbine housing will cause the DP to not fit with the alternator in the way. Also might an air/oil cooler be better suited?

Please give me your thoughts and suggestions and let me know if ive missed anything! Feel free to flame if you feel the need. Ill grab a candle and we can drip hot wax all over my body.

Honestly if the high end of your goal is 350. Get a BNR S3.

bnrsupercars.com

You'll easily hit your power goals and won't lose nearly as much spool you would with those other turbos. Plus you'll save plenty of dough.

Ive also considered this. I do want room for the future should i decide to go that route. and im probably going to be running straight 93 pump since there is no ethanol nearby and meth is too much of a commitment. not really concerned about spool time since i want to keep TQ off the rods under 3k rpm anyways. a bnr might be pushing the knock limits at anything above 300 for me in the summer. you are right though, id be saving about $1000

Edit: and plus for a little more money i could get the atp 30r bolt on kit brand new instead of a bnr and still keep my ko4.

I've never heard of anyone snapping rods with a BNR. Honestly use the money you save by going with a BNR and get in touch with an E-Tuner here on the forums. They can get you a safe map that meets your goals.

Still need room for the future though.

After doing some think im pretty solid on the 60-1 from garret for its mod-ability, flow, and compressor characteristics. Appearantly the Entry level Precision turbos arent able to upgrade compressor housings. The person i spoke to at precision made that perfectly clear with his "are you fucking serious??!" speech inflections. Maybe its possible but they dont want people to do that so they can make money on their more advanced turbos?

I think you need to find what you want you goals to be in the end. It's not worth it to upgrade any aftermarket turbo. You'll be losing money in the end.

lol goal is a roll racer but you want 300-350whp and no torque? You bought into the wrong platform.

You're going to get raped by stock turbo tuned speed 3's/cobalt SS's

A k04 on eth will come close to 300whp on a speed 6.

My goals in the end will most likely be 400+/400+. However, i will be doing at least rods and pistons before that. This turbo flows enough for these numbers and should spool quick enough for those numbers to be relatively, readily available. Even if i did choose to change turbo's later on, the only major things i might need to change are oil lines and DP flange angle.

True but i have no local ethanol and the INITIAL goal is pump gas, INITIALLY(emphasis on initial). Once i get some solid internals, i will apply meth when tuning more aggressively. Plus i hate doing maths.

So what is an actually a proper tune?

Not vouching for COBB at all, cause they suck. But tell me what is a proper tune.

An E-tune is not a proper tune. It is a tune by any one else that knows the car and the peremeters of the car. There have been people that have blown up with E-tunes, but thats also learning where the capabilities are.

COBB has been around for awhile and there are still people today that go to them. ( god help them with their cars) but thats the besides the point. And a lot of them are still running. There is actually one in College Station, Hendrix, that is still running with a COBB tune and BNR turbo.

Soooo, i would really love to hear what a proper tune is. As im sure everyone else would like to hear from you about such knowledge.

There are people runing 400+ with the BNR Turbo, with the right fuel a good tune. not "Proper" as stated before. The E-Tuners on here are great and if you looking for good power and numbers, the BNR S3 turbo is the best bang for your bucks, and even if you wanted to go bigger cause 350-400 isnt enough you can sell that BNR for good amount of money still. as long as there is no shaft play and everything still checks out.

you wont be un-happy with the BNR S3. Sadly I was one of those Motors that went pop when i had it. But that doesn't mean you be doing the same. Just make sure your AKR sensor is on.....

alright just to clarify for everyone..
INITIAL GOAL IS 300-350. THIS IS MY PUMP GAS GOAL. 400+/400+ IS BUILT/ALTERNATE FUELING GOAL.

@manila;, OBVIOUSLY ILL NEED TO ADDRESS FUELING WITH THOSE NUMBERS.

@silentwolf8; i doubt id be unhappy, but id be left with no room for more power and would need to start from square 1 with basically new everything. Pretty sure the speed 6 wont reach 400 responsibly on a bnr. did your tuner turn your akr off? damn id be pissed.

IMO a proper tune is a tune that meets your goals for power and delivery (or fuel cons. if that's what you're going for) and it doesn't risk any vital parts (read; engine). Every tune is different for every car but that's the way I classify a "proper" tune.

I have nothing against Cobb. I'm a very big fan of them actually and have plenty of Subbie friends that love them and swear by them, but I'm not a big fan of their tuning on our cars. I've gone through a Subbie AP, it's ridiculous how many more tables they have than we do. Most of that I'd say is because Cobb spends more time working on Subarus that Speeds, it's pretty obvious from their reputation as a Subaru based company.

And no I've never heard of anyone snapping/bending rods on a BNR but it's not impossible as you are living proof of it. And that sure as hell ain't gonna happen to someone who's built. Still, with where the platform is today I don't ever a BNR taking out an engine unless of course there is something wrong with the tune.

Is that the "knowledge" you were looking for?

Alrighty, on with the line/fitting details!

Quick thanks to @Etipp88 for his post in this thread thread for the lines and fittings needed for BT!

so for OIL FEED ill need:
1x -4an oil feed line with end fittings
1x -4an Flare to metric adapter

OIL RETURN:
2x -10an t3/t4 drain flange
1ft -10an line
1x -10an 45 degree swivel fitting
1x -10an straight swivel fitting

did some searching around and saw that treadstone was recommended for the swivel fittings because they have o-rings inside to prevent leaking. Is this worth the extra $$ over ebay? is it even really needed?
More research indicates that an oil restrictor isnt needed for this turbo. Ill also need to come up with a solution for plugging the factory coolant supply to the turbo. Ill have to take a look under the hood to get a better idea.

Once again, open to suggestions, questions, comments, past experiences, and merciless flaming. Oh, and of course public expression of your dislike for my being, if applicable.
