Default the banshee build

Hi everyone! about a week and a half ago my engine decided to make a new oil drain location and used a factory rod to do so while i was on an on ramp on the highway. And of course im 200 miles past warranty work. So i decided that Im going all out on this one and Ive started the process of doing a huge build. so far i have ordered a brand new block from SU with cp pistons with 8:5:1 compression and .040 bore, pauter rods and all the small parts that come with it like gasket kit, head studs, new bearings, and anything you could ask for. I also went with the stage 3 clutch kit, atp gt35r turbo, dnp manifold, ptp fuel rail components, cpe XL maf housing and intake. there are other small things like the battery relocation kit, throttle body spacer, high flow fuel pump, and ill be custom bending an inlet and intake. I already have the cobb FMIC and the corksport catless DP, catless RP, and 80mm TBE with both resonators removed. madvillian is giving me advice as i go along, but luckily my best friend is a mazda technician so he is extremely familiar with the build process. if anyone has any ideas for something I may need or should do feel free to let me know. I am also on the 247 forums as 08speed3veteran if you want to PM me there.

Since you're going all out and want your build to be baller, might I recommend waiting just a tad longer and get the SteedSpeed top mount manifold along with Dustin's downpipe/intake combo. It will let the world see your big ass GT35 and maintenance will be A LOT easier. And yeah, most don't recommend PTP products. Get the CP-E fuel pump.

I'm glad to see you over here. Ignore Philly and you will find a lot of people here that know what the hell they're talking about.

As I've said before, my concerns are both the internally gated 35r due to potential boost creep, and the PTP fuel rail.

Also, I must have overlooked that TB spacer part. Don't waste your time with that man. Trust me, rid your car of any RR fail.

forget ignoring me.
he's just now considering putting on a pump?
lol.
i'll be the 1% of this forums's members that won't say "if you run a downpipe or a front mount or whatever" that you need a pump, but the other 99% of people here think a pump is the end-all, be-all mod for protecting your engine.

Naw I agree, I do. Stock fuel pumps are plenty adequate for mild mods. But the dudes building his motor and throwing on a 35r, so why not upgrade the fuel pump. I tried to steer him away from PTP but hey, I wish him the best with it.

Conversely, philly, in most instances you must admit you're worth ignoring.

i was mistaken when i wrote ptp internals...i was looking at my pre-boom mod list and i did have the ptp internals for the factory pump. It worked for the previous setup with my PG reworked turbo and my cobb tune done by jorge at IAG performance. I already purchased the CPE pump and am currently waiting for everything to be delivered. the ptp internals never gave me any issue and i had them in for 10,000 miles and had consistent pressure through the entire rpm range. and i have done extensive research so that I cover all the bases on this build. when i said "small" i was referring to the physical size of the pump, not the price or importance lol. i welcome constructive criticism, no worries. now, is it a general consensus that i should go externally wastegated instead of internally? I know very well what boost creep is due to the fact that its the reason that I purchased the reworked turbo from pg for my old setup and it cured the problem. i can always return the turbo and manifold to SU and go another direction. what ever happened to that externally wastegated manifold from PG??? also, would I have to fab up all kinds of stuff so that a t3 gt35 bolts to the manifold and DP? I understand that the coolant line and oil line would need to be adjusted too?

If you really want to keep the IWG look in to the Borg Warner EFR series.. They can be found for around the same price at the ATP kits, and have a perfect wastegate setup and even have an integrated BOV..

You would need to go with a standard t3 or t4 manifold though..

if your doing it, do T3 and externally gated. none of this internal shit. your already going the distance, go the extra mile and do it right and not worry about it.

what kind of power are you going for? is this your DD? slapping a 35r is a big decision in a big turbo. if 400's are your game plan i'd say go for a gt3076. if 500's+ are your goal, go 35r and don't look back.

good luck. this is a pain in the dick process.

Personally, I think creep will be a big issue on the internally gated 35r. But I'll wait for someone else to chime in on that.

But, this is where you run into problems. PG's manifold is no longer. There are very few options. Steedspeed (Leen) a vendor here, makes AWESOME externally gated manifolds, at great prices, and they won't crack. If I were to do it over again, I'd go in that direction.

As I mentioned to you before, Cp-e is also coming out with a kit... but their release dates can be a little slippery. I wouldn't wait up.

So, if you're going to go for a new manifold, do yourself one better and just opt for a t3 flanged manifold. This will open up millions of turbo choices, rather than the ONE ATP ms3/ms6 specific one, for the common t3/v-band out exhaust housing. This is what I did, and trust me, it is so much easier. Picked up a great turbo, brand new, for $850 shipped from Precision. I'm not saying you should buy the same turbo, but you have so many options now from $200-$4,000, whatever you want.

The other downside to this is the v-band part, you won't be able to bolt up any existing DP made for our cars to the turbo with that goofy 5-bolt design. Working with the standard 3" v-band is really easy though, being the most common there are shittons of available weld-on flanges, adapters, all kinds of shit. If you know a good fabricator I'm sure they could make you a downpipe quickly and easily.

If you opt for a cheaper, more available t3 turbo, you can use the savings to buy a great wastegate and have a dump pipe made - do it at the same time as you do the downpipe.

Coolant/oil lines aren't too much a problem, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. In the Big Turbo Builds section, there is a How-To 'Sticky' that I wrote that should cover most bases.

djuosnteisn is in the process of making a "kit" utilizing SteedSpeed's new top mount manifold. He is currently buttoning up the ms6 version and I beleive he will start on the ms3 version very soon. I'm not sure what your time frame is on the project and you'll have to talk to DJ to get a time estimate on his kits, but it is an option. He is making the downpipe, intake, and oil/coolant lines so that all you do is pick a turbo and pick up steeds sexy ass mani and you're good to go. I'm personally waiting for this option to come available.

yeah, your power goals are most important.

regardless, if you're going for above 400, I really don't think the ATP 35r isn't going to do it for you, that exhaust housing just won't flow enough.

i will have a daily driven vehicle, thats not the issue. my goal is to hit 500 honestly. BUT, i want it to run correctly and safely at 500 or above. Im not some crazy kid trying to run this thing ragged, I want a nice weather, weekend warrior car thats unique and unexpected.

as far as the DP goes, i have the connections to have welding and any kind of metalwork done, i just need to know;

1. can i use the CS down pipe if I weld this flange onto it?

and 2. does anyone sell a pre-machined one to fit the bolt pattern so that i can simply have it welded on?

Right here, dwag: V-band adapter, T3 5 bolt (ford style) : atpturbo.com. A lot of T3 turbos come with the Ford 5-bolt style.

Or if you have the discharge style that comes on OEM Mazda: V-Band Adapter - GT25/GT28/GT307X-WG Series : atpturbo.com

Yeah man, I really really doubt you'll be able to hit 500whp with that ATP 35r, but I'm always down to be proven wrong!

So...all the parts are ordered and should be here by the end of this week or early next week with the exception of the v-band adapter flange, but I will be ordering that here soon. With everyone's input/advice I ordered the following:

-Steedspeed EWG manifold (T3)
-Precision 5857r ball bearing turbo (T3) with 4" ported inlet and .63 A/R
-Pauter Rods
-CP Pistons 8:5:1 CR and .020 bore
-brand new block from SU with all new gaskets, bearings, studs, etc.
-Stage 3 Spec Clutch kit with high clamp pressure plate, full-faced carbon metallic friction, high torque sprung hub and disc assembly.
-CPE Performance Fuel pump
-PTP performance high pressure rail valve (i know ptp has been known to have what madvillian calls "copious amounts of fail" but ill give it a shot)
-battery relocation kit
-new crank shaft
-44mm EWG (haven't decided on brand yet)
There are going to be other things I can't think of right now, but I'll get them as I go along. I will be fabricating my own Intake and ewg dump tube so i haven't forgotten them. pictures to come as things arrive and this week I will be dropping the blown motor and taking pics of the destruction. anything I am forgetting feel free to let me know. hopefully its more constructive criticism rather than just you guys flaming me for something I'm forgetting!

For WG, go Tial.

As for the fuel rail...do you really want to chance having a fuel problem when making lots of power? It's one thing to have a shitty turbo or BOV...but when you run out of fuel, that's when your motor melts.

Sounds Like a good build ! Good luck !! I hope to be doing a build soon myself .
But forget the PTP products ... I got fucked bye them . I wouldn't use that stuff after what I went though .. Everyone has told you not to use PTP ...but you sound like you are bent on using the PTP stuff ... Good luck on that !! Just don't want your build to go down the drain cuz a non tested shitty part !

I have been talking with Mark at SU and he said the block, clutch and internals should be here by this weekend, so I am hoping a 75 lb package and a frustrated UPS guy come visit me tomorrow!

Looks like a nice build man.

I noticed you said you were tuned at IAG. Is your speed3 red? I think I met you over on 247 and wanted to talk to you at the subie meet that happened at IAG last year.

Good luck man.

Nope that's not me, BUT... the guy your referring to tuned his Speed the same day I did and that's how we met. I know his name on M247 is Biggs and I actually have videos of both of our cars on the dyno. Really nice guy. That day sucked. I had boost creep so bad that Jorge could only do so much with the car, but even then it hauled serious ass.

maybe ill call precision and see what they recommend.

oh and steedspeed contacted me informing me that he WAS going to ship my manifold, but didnt like the quality of the coating so he sent it back to get done again. great for quality assurance, NOT so great for my timeline lol.

just waiting on the turbo to be built, the steedspeed mani to be coated, and the vband flange for my downpipe. Also, does anyone have any advice on wategate size? i am quite unfamiliar with them size-wise. i know what they do and how they do it, but im not sure if i should go 38mm or 44mm. ive heard that the bigger you go, the bigger the turbo thus more boost to bleed off. smaller wategate should be used for higher boost and less bleed off. If im wrong please educate me. I want to pick the right one.
