Default BT installed and I can't take exhaust drone/noise level.

Okay so I just installed a gt3071r, SS mani, and PERM Stock Location V-band Downpipe. I bought my car with the MSCBE and the noise was barely tolerable. After I installed the goodies the exhaust is too loud! Not just a little I am going nuts. The DP doesn't have a cat at this point. I drove around for a couple of days and couldn't handle it so I brought my car to a muffler shop and had them install a 24" glass pack muffler with louvers to see if that would help. Well it helped but not enough.

I have researched a ton and I believe that the Cobb CBE is the quietest exhaust available for the MS3 (I don't have the stock exhaust). My question is should I throw a High Flow Cat (Random Technology or Mil-spec) in the downpipe to quiet it down some or should I bite the bullet and get the Cobb system? Just not sure if it will be quiet enough without a Cat.

Looking for direction....Should I buy a cat and weld it in and see if the drone is gone? Or would I be better off just going with a new CBE? At this point I am thinking Cobb.

Please help....I am old and can't take the drone anymore!!!

Thanks in advance.

I'm thinking you should probably do both. Get a cat in the down pipe and a quieter exhaust such as cobbs. A catless down pipe is going to add some noise. Maybe even consider adding some resonators in the down pipe as well.

Well, for starters, a glasspack will last maybe a week before being blown out. Those things are shit.

get a stock CBE and put it on. Gonna be quieter than anything else out there, and frankly will flow just fine.

I will check the local junk yards for a stock CBE. I just have a hard time with buying a "stock" CBE when my car originally came with one .

Anyone have a stock Gen 1 CBE for sale?

Had the exact same issue with mine. Here is how I fixed it. First off I put a high flow cat in the mid pipe for $100, that helped soooo much, then I added a vibrant 10 inch resonator off ebay for $69.99, then I replaced my corksport rear muffler with a magnaflow muffler thats 6in overall diameter with 18 inch total length for $79.99. CAr is soooooo nice to drive. Way quieter than it was and I love the way it sounds and best of all NOOO drone. Shit was unbearable before. My suggestion with your system is the vibrant resonator and high flow cat. You will love it again.

Ok I am going to order a cat and install it along with the a vibrant resonator. As far as the Cat goes I was looking at both the Random Technology and Mil-spec 100 cells. What Cat did you put on? Thanks.

Do not get Random Tech. They break very quickly. I had a RT cat on my SVT Focus (exhaust temps much lower) and it collapsed in less than a year. Magnaflow or nothing.

That's pretty much what I would have suggested. No cats on these things make them almost unbearably loud. And a resonator helps A LOT.

It's quiet with the 2 stock cats, but even mine with a race pipe can get pretty loud.

I was gonna give you shit for complaining about exhaust noise after going BT, but excessive drone is so fucking annoying that I actually understand what you're going for here.

Does anyone know if the Vibrant Ultra quiet resonator will fit above the midpipe chassis brace? Or do I have to go with the bottle style? As far as cats go it looks like Random Tech is out based on feedback provided. So I guess what cats are you guys running? Magnaflow doesn't provide good information on the construction of there cats ie 100, 200, or 300 cells that I have found. What would you guys shoot for? Thanks again.

I've heard the CNT exhaust is pretty quiet too. First step, though, is getting a catted downpipe.

Or come sit in my car for 5 minutes of driving, and you will appreciate your noise level and be so glad it isn't like mine haha.

My car sounds amazing, just add a good high flow cat first then replace your glasspack with a vibrant resonator and you will be living the dream. Good luck

I say buy a set of balls Ryan. You should be so deep in the throttle most of the time that the turbo noise and wastegate dump are the only things you should hear anyway.

I assure you one and the cat will be more than enough. Just do that first and make your decision.

Ooops too late. I have 2 12" resonators coming and the cat. Hopefully it is so quiet I can't hear it running then! Thanks for the help everyone.

P.S. Don't let @djuosnteisn know I am putting a cat on

They are usually in the mid pipe. You can pretty much add them anywhere they fit though.

Ok a small update....I ran a log with just the catless dp and MSCBE and made 20 to 21 psi of boost on just the EWG 1 bar spring. Since I had the glasspack installed I lost about 2 psi across the board. All things being equal.....a glasspack costs you 2 psi of boost! Scarred to see what a cat will do! I will keep this post updated when I get my cat and resonators welded in.

Well I had a Vibrant HFC and 2 12" vibrant resonators welded in today. I am very pleased with how the car sounds (still could be quieter imho). Car definitively spools slower now but I think it is a good compromise. Plus the car doesn't stink anymore . Thanks for the help everyone. Saved me some money going with the Cobb CBE.

Sorry to revive my old thread but I still can't take the noise! So I installed one Vibrant High Flow Cat in the DP, 2 12" Vibrant Resonators and currently running the Mazdaspeed Acc Muffler. The car is just too loud for my old ears to handle (I know you all think I am a girl). So should I install another High Flow Cat or remove the Muffler and put another one in there. Please help!

Thanks

Who makes one? Or are they all custom? DJ mentioned that too I just couldn't find one.

i'm assuming they're all custom from what i've read..usually they are tuned to a certain RPM you're looking to get rid of drone at..if you're just trying to cancel overall noise i dunno how helpful that would be

if you've already added resonators i'm assuming another muffler is the best option at this point

This may or may not help since im still stock k04 but im running full catless dp and straight pipe exhaust and its freaking glass shattering drum banging when i first start it up. Something Ive learned to do is once you start it up give it some gas until you are at an rpm that has less backblast and drone until your car settles down then go. My initial start up puts my car at around 2200-2500 rpms but ive found that if i hold it steady at 3000 rpms its actually quiter until the car warms up. Just a thought but watch if you have LC then its just going to piss off your neighbors lol
