CrazyP TOPMOUNT BT GTX3076 Build (Easy Breezy PT. 4)

Well, I starting this thread to chronicle my build. This will be more for the AVG joe like me lol. I don't have the modding skills or knowledge like DJ, Douge, or JMHinkle so we will see how newb friendly this kit is.

Mods so far on my car
COBB AP
Corksport FMIC
KMD internals
Ebay DOwnpipe.

I ordered everything in Dougefresh's how to for the topmount turbo build minus the BSD kit and the venturi thing, I plan on drillling the cover. I'm also switching my FMIC to the CXracing kit because the routing is better for what I'm doing. I will sell the corksportFMIC and downpipe later.
Can't wait to get everything in

Do yourself a favor and get the altered customs fmic rather than the cxracing. Much much better core and its cheaper

Update!. Installed rear sway and front and rear differential mounts. Glad I never have to take that shit apart again.

All I need for the turbo is the DJ kit everything else is here!

the blade was a included tool to help you open the package. like when a dresser comes with the allen tool to tighten it

alright, tommorrow morning at 6am is D day! just the m8X1.25X16 ss socket cap bolts from lowes and the 5/16 union and shit from advance.

If Im missing anything I'll let you guys know because that means the how to is incomplete lol.

Caveats. I do not have a catch can, i will be buying a mattdamond but I want dual can.
I will wait on seals till next week, I figure ill be running spring pressure of 16 psi for a week or so.

after its all said and done I will have multiple items for sale, like my corksport fmic and ebay downpipe and SU test pipe

Ugh, you're right. WTF is the deal with turbo swaps on this car????

I could put an entire turbo setup on, including intercooler and other misc things on a Focus, a car NOT intended for a turbo in 8 hours. Guess I won't understand 'til I do the swap myself.

Ok guys details............

I started this job at 930 am with absolutely no prep what so ever after driving over to my brother in laws garage. While waiting for the car to cool we started preping.

Reclocked the turbo correctly which meant loosening hot intake exhaust sides, no biggy.
installed fittings, cleaned out new lines, layed out table with parts. I also switched waste springs to a 16psi spring. a little difficult.


Alright car is cool enoughtime to disassemble





During dissy we had to go to autostore twice to get tools.
14mm deep sockect for turbo nuts, E8 wrench for manifold studs, racheting wrench set from harbor freight with 10mm thru 16mm, 8mm log box end wrench for oil return.
pinche coolant lines with vise grip, Also dougefresh is right take off alternator there is no way in hell to install custom line with it installed.
Now I took the studs off to cut for the new mani and used a grinder, worked great. installed wastegate on new mani and installed mani. The damn wastegate is to big and is hoitting the block! fuck



That threaded hole is where a turbo bracket use to be. This slowed us down a bunch because I had to line up the dump tube, wastgate and mani just right before tightening anything but the dump tube bend was off and hitting the subframe. We had to heat it puound it and bend it to get it to fit and finally tightened wastegate vband clamp first then mani nuts which some are hard to get to
We also wasted alot of time trying to install custom oilfeed line with out removing altrenator. dont bother crush washer will be a bitch, just take off alternator

Ok turbo is ready to be installed but custom oilslide hole need to be enlogated to fit, DJ is trying to ireon out some of these issues so theres less hassle for people later but he had given a heads up it might not fit and if it was ok and I had said yes.

About this time I called DJ and he told me how to run the wastegate boost lines which it top open and side fitting to tap in turbo outlet coupling and he told me he'd send me the basemaps later that night.

Ok took apart turbo to install on mani, dougefresh was right again pretty much only way




Ok turbo is on, now its time to switch my corksport front mount to cxracing frontmount.



3 am with a grinder and hacksaw trying to get everything to fit without looking like shit.
The Kit eneded up being perfect, I cut one pipe to make a 6 inch straight pipe to turbo, other than that eveyrthing else lined up perfect. Had to make new mounting brackts though to raise intercooler.
At 5 am tried starting for the first time, car wouldnt start. Remebered to flash DJ base map, car started first try, Boyaa!. Next 2 hours spent fiting front bumper for new intercooler setupo. Alot of cutting and fitting of plastic. Cut Hole in tray for dumpipe.
by about 8 am tried the car for the first time and went to get gas. Checked for leaks on the way there. went Wot real quick on the way back. 19PSI! yeah baby turbo is bossting nice!
and thats it. We then called it a day, here is some pics of finished product

Thanks, Oh I forgot to tell ya, I'm running spring pressure with the boost solenoid looped back into it self. Oh and grinded down battery tiedown bracket until it wouldnt hit the intake. worked great

I am getting a p00069 code and I'm thinking its either the solenoid being looped back or the extra nipple on the CXracing bov. I left one nipple open on the BOV. Does anybody know if this is right?

edit, looks like I left the wrong nipple uncapped. the bottom angle nipple is left open not the top one?

Ok above fixed everything and its a big difference lol. Im now boosting at 22 psi with bj +10% base map and I have zero knock and its hot as hades here. And no more turbo flutter BS and the dump pipe sounds bad ass!
virtual dyno says 328 HP meh, I going to a real Dyno in a couple of weeks if my tune is done by then.

Looks good. Get rid of coolant temp and vehicle speed... I'd also scrap throttle position and keep APP, and add calc load. Once you get your wot afrs dialed in, you'll be sitting pretty. Make sure you hold your wot pulls to redline. You're more likely to get kr in 4th. I was getting a ton, and just switched over to adding a couple gallons of E85. I'm also pushing 350g/s in the heat.

You'll have a lot more fun when you get the map dialed in, and up the boooooost! Good job!

Actually, leave coolant temps, especially considering you just replaced and modified both of the turbo lines. We need to keep an eye out for leaks for a lil while. I prefer to keep throttle position and APP. I emailed you a list of what needs to be logged for wot, if you stick to it, we'll be golden


Careful on going wot too much right out of the gate. We need to make sure it's tuned and safe. Send some maf cal logs over and then we can start playing with the wot stuff

Good point. I have a DH, and always assume everyone and their grandmother does as well, haha. ECT is one of my 6 on the split screen I always watch, so no need for me to log it . Def look for leak though, as I had a couple slow ones. Why do you like to see APP + TP? After awhile, you kinda just know what it's doing, but maybe I'm missing something? Unless for throttle close etc, but my ecu can't see my boost anyways, lol.

Advice: put reflective heat tape around coolant line that touches valve cover. Direct contact between anything is bad.

Just insight to both parts of the throttle equation. APP is what the driver is doing. TP is what the ecu is doing. And they don't always do the same thing.... so it's important to see both, even if it's just to verify imo.

Sweet. I already had meth before I went BT. So, I have no 'safe' tune w/out meth fml. I'm swapping in a larger nozzle on Fri (D07), and hopefully that will cure my kr @ 24psi... if not, something is wrong.
