Right before this happened like I said before I stopped at a gas station. While exiting I bottomed out really bad(really really bad) on my front bumper because the stupid angle was so steep. I wonder if the intercooler piping jostled the turbo enough to tweak it.

as far as metal being sucked in there is no way I dont think. None of the blades were chipped or broken just wore down.

Its ok though the wife is freaking out not me, she asked me how much a turbo cost I told here less than the driveway cost to get poured lol (2650)

Fine metal particles will probably pass through the motor without issue. It's the bigger chunks that can cause damage. Glad they're not chipped.

IC piping shouldn't jostle the turbo... cause there are silicone couplers that will eat up the slack. Not sure.... sucks nonetheless.

If the pipes butt against each other and there isn't enough "silicone" in there then it can happen. With the tolerances in the turbo being so tight even a small tweak can cause it to impact.

OP, try and brace the IC piping to the IM - kind of like in the COBB kits.

Wow just saw all of this. I bought the turbo used also and who knows how many miles were on it before me. Def over 15000 total I'd say.
Did I spnk the turbo lol? Yeah. I mean I beat on my car pretty good. WOT pulls everywhere but that wouldn't cause the issue I wouldn't think.

To Dustin on egts. Not sure if you saw my other post in my thread but I took a look back at our conversations on gchat. It looks like my high egts were from the faulty relief valve if I put the timeline together right. When I replaced the relief valve is when we saw the huge drop in egts from 1900-1700. You were then able to get them down to 1650 with the tune. I didn't hammer on the car when the relief valve went because I thought it was my fuel pump at first.

Anyway just trying to throw some insight in here. I'm really sorry for the troubles but I didn't know what I was selling or the whole history of the turbo hence the low price.

As far as the next turbo? The gtx turbos actually spool up slower than the reg gt turbos, but flow more air up top. Perrin did back to backs on the 3076 and 3582 gt vs gtx. It's a pretty good read.

Could forced performance rebuild it for you?

No worries Im not blaming anyone , besides if its rebuildable I wont loose out much

as far as GTX yeah I've been reading similar things and it sounds like a GTX3071 is similar to a GT3076 so I am torn.

Of course other brands are in the MIX too I went garret because thats what douge and jmhinkle used.

I welcome any suggestions for a turbo in the 1500 dollar range that is similar to a GT30 series turbo

If you can get forced performance to rebuild it I think that would be the best option.
If not then I would stick with a 3076 gt, gtx, or hta depending on funds. Either one is gonna make you more than happy.

no I didn't get that impression from you either. But the relief valve scenario made a ton of sense after I went through it all. What sparked my questioning on huge egt drop from tune or rv was Scott. He was having troubles with fp and he's egts went way up also. He replaced the relief valve and same thing 1600ish deg. Bad fp made egts around 1900 for him also.

just got off the phone with FP, told me the turbo sounds like its a gonner not rebuildable.

However they told me they can reuse my housings and replace the center section if the inspection on them is good for about 1000 bucks.

For 400 more bones I can have a brand new TS GTX3076 <<<---- winner winner chicken dinner.

You want one with a billet wheel. It's rated to 570hp, so it's up there with a gt3076, easy. Spool shouldn't be much different, but ask rigor about it. It's $915 from STM: STM: PTE | PRECISION TURBO & ENGINE | 5557 BILLET TURBO. Maybe not super duper cheap...but do you really want a super cheap turbo? haha

cageyvet ran a 5557 for almost a year on his ms3, lives in Houston (it's hot there, of course) and beat the everloving shit out of it every day. Is full spool at 4k too late for you? It will be near there, maybe 3800 for the 5557.

ive decided to go with a GT3076 or GTX3076 because all I have to do is remove my old turbo and install one of these, basically drop in for me. No guessing on lines, fittings, restrictors etc.

Now all I need is my money, which Im consolidating lol.

If running oil only you have to be a bit more careful of oil quality and temps but it's doable for sure.

Why not a GTX3071?

That is as perfect as a turbo could be for this car in my personal opinion. Any bigger becomes useless unless you build the motor to rev more. That is the only turbo I could be jelly of.

Mounting that intercooler is far from easy, but i can give you some tips if you need. You'll need to remove the crash bar entirely, and replace it with a bar welded to the crumple zones, and mounting tabs welded on it. When your ready to tackle it, just hit me up and i'll give you a rough idea how to get it done.

turbo is coming 11 october ........ I miss my car........

I pussied out on the TR10 after I looked at DJ's thread lol.

I got a good deal on a cxracing 28x8x3.5 core so I'm going with that.

oh and I bought the studs and nuts for the injector seals so ill be installing those this weekend

This is what I'll upgrade my atp gtx3076 to when I go aftermarket manifold, twin scroll vband and ewg.

I love the turbo so far. It's gonna be quieter than your 3071 was.
