Drivers finally building his motor for 2012

Well after thinking about it long and hard over the last few weeks I decided to go ahead and bite the bullet and build a motor. Nothing to crazy just something that gives me a lil peace of mind when Im out there almost every other weekend in summer reppin on my car. LOL Last year alone I had 30 race events i went to ranging from autocross, time attack, hillclimbs to drag racing. Thats not counting over 100 dyno pulls, thousands of freeway logs and countless street races and just me driving the damn thing. I cant even go to the gas station without getting into it atleast once. Even when there is 5inches on the ground I am rodding around. I have a problem literally Im addicted to going fast. LOL So before my brand new 09 motor is in pieces like my 08 motor was Im gonna go ahead and put some insurance into it.... Welll kinda. What Im gonna do is go through this motor and make sure all is good then put it to the side. Here is my plan from there. Bare with me, this is my first time opening up one of these motors and im gonna be learning like everyone else whos done it has. So here is the plan, and lucky for me I have a great bunch of guys like you and especially Speed6 Killah (pablo)who is bending over backwards to help a brotha out. So here it goes.

2012 brand new short block
arp mains
k1 rods
Cpe magnum pistons
arp head studs
oem head gasket
new oil pump
new water pump
bs delete and windage tray

2008 used head
cams (possibly)
new vvt
new valve seals
new valve seats
milled true
5 angle valve job
porting by my buddy walt and we will flow test afterwards

New parts plan
Fullrace Prostock manifold
Port my atp backhalf
PTP rail valve


Im sure there are some things missing and this build isnt anything crazy or different than what you guys have already seen. Im no dyno crusher or freeway tire slayer. I plan to use the fuck out of this motor and you better believe I dont plan on pussy footing it around 22psi anymore at the track. My plan is 22psi for street on 50% e85 with new ptp rail valve helping me achieve that. Then for the track I plan on going full bore on fuel only. I will try and get some q16 to dyno and race on. 26-28psi should yield interesting results. Im hoping for 450whp on this lil gtx and I dont think its to far fetched of a goal for now. I dont wanna run meth so untill "the solution" is released for fuel demand Ill be stuck at what the ptp pump and rail valve get me. Later on who knows (500-525whp), but now I think I can get 450whp on q16. The oxygen content will help make more power also. So we will see soon enough. Any suggestions you guys have please feel free to chime in. I am new to this and look forward to not squeezing my butt cheeks everytime I see my car go past 22psi when Im racing on the stock motor. Im just glad I have 06speed6 helping me with my build. I wanna thank him ahead of time, the dude has already gone above and beyond. Good peeps.

Ill try and get some pics along the way but you guys know what this shit looks like LOL. Maybe I can get my boy to send pics of the new parts before he throws them in the block.

thanks guys Im very excited to see what another 80-100whp does for me at the track. Should be very interesting especially with some new toyo 26x8.5x15 slicks and some skinnies in the rear. Its only money right. Gotta do something before april though cause I sold my 25 inch toyos to a fellow member back east that is rockin a gt3071.

Some people are forgetting that this block has made some big power but @driver311 has made the most use out of it. As evident with the mods he used to get into the 12's.

Your build list looks sweet man. I have eagle rods, wiseco 9.5:1 pistons, and all arp hardware in my motor. The only things i see you are missing are bearings and an oem gasket set for the motor. i know jp@edgeautosport.com is working with clevite to get rod bearings made for the disi motor.

Finally a good tip for using head studs is to bore and hone the block with a deck plate using head studs. I have heard from a couple reputable motor builders that head studs pull with a lot more force and actually slightly warp the cylinder walls so if you bore when the block is under proper tension then you will get the best results.

With wiseco pistons you will need to bend the oil squirters a little bit so the pistons dont his them but thats no big deal.

What clutch are you planning on running?

Actually you would be blown away. There is a very good scene here in Idaho (pocatello, boise, and idahofalls) all have some of the trickest setups around the nw. My buddies daily driven evo8 made over 900whp and runs 145mph traps, my buddies srt4 makes 550whp on his daily driven map with only a bw s259 and now he has a big ass agp 800hp turbo. Several 800hp supras around town and another with 1200whp. Thats just a few that I know of many. Go to Idahomotorsports and you can just browse some of the cars in the members rides section. Very close nit racing/enthusiest group around here. Monthly get togethers and just some good times all together. I cant wait to blow the scene up with my 500whp grocery getter wagon. i already get tons of props for going mid/high 11s on a bone stock motor with only 22psi on a 3071. I cant wait to see what I can do with another 75-100whp. Gonna be very cool. very

Update. So it looks like John over at ptp is interested in my setup and as some know we have been doing business for years and it looks like we might try his new stg3 race cams in my motor. I believe they are the same ones they just put in erichs car and posted a video on them. Of course his car is monsterous and will benefit from them but itll be really cool to see what a more common setup like mine will do for the mazda community. If they work good which John is pretty confident they will, itll be a great mod for alot of peeps. Shit some peeps will buy just for the lope at idle LOL Me on the other hand is looking forward to a very smooth and strong trq curve. I think a free flowing head with a good all around turbo like mine paired with a big set of cams could be a leathal combo. Lets hope all works out. Ill keep you guy posted on if they become a reality for this build. Money is getting stupid tight already. There is way more that goes into this than just $1000 worth of rods and piston lol Im deep already and thank the lord that I got peeps helping me.

It's good to hear that John's looking to turn things around with the MSF guys. Cams with a little valvework even on an uported head should pick things up nicely!

He might be helping me out with a HPRV before I head to Full Race... Should be fun!

Few changes to the build. Eagle rods are on back order for who knows how fucking long so had to make a few adjustments. LOL Anyways k1's are on the way and the new wisecos are here already. So just waiting for rods to assemble the motor. Head is on the way to me tommorrow and then ill take it to my porter. Im very excited.

I think my head guy is gonna do a 5 angle valve job on the intake side and a radius cut on the exhaust side. You guys have any feedback on that???

Thanks man. I few updates. Got my fullrace manifold coming. Im very excited about that. Ill post pics when I get it. The pistons didnt work out. Pablo is trying to figure that out. I might end up with the cpe pistons if these continue the way they are. My head will be here tomorrow then it goes into the shop for valve work and porting will be done by me and my buddy walt. Also gonna be flow testing afterwards. If the numbers are good you guys might be able to take advantage of this work at very reasonable prices.

Porting our heads is kinda simple and fun actually. Pablo and I are working on a series of how to videos to show the porting and polishing process from beginning to end. So people could attempt tackling that on their own when going forged.

I've been watching the progress of your motor here at Pablo's place. I wish I had those dish pistons man. GL with your build. Let me know how it goes with CPE.

Can you take some pictures of where you plan to work on? My current problem is I don't have a spring compressor that can fit over our springs since they're down in a hole.

I need to, at the very least, gasket match the intake side of the head since I've opened up the intake manifold quite a bit. That shouldn't be too hard, right? I don't plan to touch the combustion chamber but if I'm doing the PnP on the intake side, seems like I should do more.

Any opinions/advice on what I should go ahead and get done to the head after I do the PnP on the intake side?

Start with port matching and then just smooth everything out. Also, this is the compressor you want. It is seriously simple and badass. I bought one specifically for this.

Are you going to doing any work to the combustion chamber? I was thinking just rounding off any sharp points just a bit and polishing the chamber. However, this is where I am most hesitant to mess with.
