(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score After removing all the heat shielding that was present on the stock manifold and turbo, the temps inside the engine bay have sky rocketed. You can feel the heat radiating from the rear of the engine bay when you open the hood... and you can't even touch the hood above the turbo. It's that hot... I was talking with some of the guys and we were looking at ways to mount an aftermarket heat shield in the engine bay. There's pretty much two options we can see: 1) Mount it to the firewall, using that foil/heat shield directly behind the manifold. There are two bolts sticking out that you could use to mount some sort of shield. 2) Perhaps use the TMIC mount on the top left side of the engine. Either place the tin sheet directly on it and bolt it down using the TMIC bracket, or maybe remove the bracket and secure the shield to the engine? Option #1 might be the cleanest, but you can't go directly from the firewall to the engine since the engine rocks back and forth. So option #1 might be better... If done right, you could trap significant amounts of heat and keep it away from your intake, etc. You could also use it to add a little rice to the engine bay if done right... Thoughts? Not sure if anyone else has this problem, but it's starting to melt some of the tape on my electrical cables Plus if you don't open the hood the first time, you gotta brace yourself and try again because the fucker's hot hah

| Not Ranked : 0 score You running a turbo blanket? If not, get a turbo blanket and temps will drop a lot. You can also throw some heat wrap on the manifold or downpipe.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score One of the guys at the shop was telling me about the turbo blanket... I'm going to do research. My knee jerk reaction was it's going to make the engine bay look like shit, but after burning myself on my hood (slight exaggeration), I'm willing to consider it... Edit: Now that I've actually seen what they look like, they look promising... But I think the manifold gives off a ton of heat too and I don't necessarily want to wrap it... Or rather, I would consider that as my last resort.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I'm not surprised that there's more heat. I'm looking for options to control the heat. The stock shielding had to go because I swapped my manifold and turbo. If anything, I'm surprised that I appear to be the only one complaining about this.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Maybe because everyone else has coated the manifold (ceramic/wrapped) to reduce heat.

| Not Ranked : 0 score It would be sweet to have someone make a nice heat shield, i'd be in if it were done well enough. Do you have a top mount setup or stock location? And lastly, ceramic coating on the manifold helps significantly. it's definitely an option worth considering!

| Not Ranked : 0 score Pretty much everything that has been said will help your temps drop. If you do go to get ceramic coated get swain techs white lightning its the best ceramic coating in the industry. At least in my opinion.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score It's a steedspeed manifold which is coated in high temp coating of some sort. I'm just going to buy a piece of metal and attach it to my TMIC mounting bracket at this point. Edit: it's in the stock location.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Seems like you would want a piece of metal that has reflective coating of some sort to really be effective.

| Not Ranked : 0 score So when you do swap it, are there anywires that need to be covered since the heat shield is gone? The O2 sensor wires on the downpipe will be fine? |

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I think the o2 wires are fine, although funny thing... I got a PO421 code which is an O2 sensor problem the day after my tuning session... But I don't think that's the O2 sensor in the downpipe, so it's probably not related (reset the code and it went away). There's this line that is directly above the turbo outlet (I haven't really followed it, so not sure where it goes) and the electrical tape around it and the plastic mesh below it are starting to melt... but I think the hose will be fine. I've been in touch with Steedspeed and Leen is helping me out with some options... I'll see how it goes!

| Not Ranked : 0 score Yeah, shit gets hot in there w/o heat protection. I thought the PG tubular mani I had would be fine since I heard tubular mani's cool better. Ended up having a huge crack above my carbon fiber hood from it. Not my brightest moment, lol. But after I got some heat insulation built into the hood, it handeled it alot better. Florida summer and driver stupidity FTL.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score That's exactly why I haven't put on my CF hood yet. I'll probably line the bottom with that DEI reflective gold tape.... After I put on my oem air ducts and install some heat shields.
