Default Finally let my balls drop! - GTX3076

So I took the day off from work yesterday...and... went golfing!

And then I spent the next 12 hours of my life doing this...

1. Purchased a 12pk of twisted tea and a 12 pk of BL Lime

1.5. Began drinking

2. Removed just about everything from my engine bay (Probably should have just pulled the motor)

3. Changed out/ upgraded/ installed the following:

-All motor mounts
-Injector seals
-JBR IM and TB TIG's
-JBR TB coolant bypass
-VTCS Delete and quick gasket match on the mani (couldn't do a full port in time)
-MD OCC Kit
-Bosch 3.5 Bar MAP Sensor
-GS 3-port EBCS
-ATP GTX3076R
-CP-e 4" BT TIP
-CP-e ExcelXL Big MAF Intake
-And rotated my tars

Then I... cut a map with 34343psi targets and went for a drive to feel the fast...

And it ran reeeaaallly well for 12psi

And last but certainly not least before I actually drove, I...
-Refilled my coolant since I took a bath in it while messing with a line on the new tubro

So yeah I did a lot of mods yesterday, definitely more than I would advise anyone do all at once, but I wanted it done and I had the day off yesterday, so I said fuck it and so far it has all worked out.

I'm having a slight issue with boost right now which I think may be related to me switching up a hose on my EBCS, so it should be a really quick fix and then I'll start actually tuning...

I'll be load tuning at first, and will most likely stay that way, but again, I won't completely rule out boost tuning.

UPDATE: Added pics from the shop, the intake valves, injectors/bores, the wga hitting the compressor housing, and a couple logs.

In the logs you can see the car moves pretty well on the 2nd-3rd run, but something is really holding it back from spooling form lower rpm in 3rd, and it just never really makes the same power...

Congratulations. It would take me 12 days rather than 12 hours to install all that hardware.

Best of luck with an awesome turbo choice.

LOL, exactly what I was thinking. Especially add in the 24 pack, a little for good measure I would be lucky to get an intake installed in that time frame.

Can't wait for some pics and datalogs. That turbo should push some air

What spring pressure is your WGA set at? I'm getting my 1-bar WGA installed today, and I'd love for some faster spooling when compared to my current 8-psi spring.

Good luck with tuning...I encourage you to give Boost Tuning a try and use the TRL tables to control 1st and 2nd.

Exact same turbo I just ordered yesterday. When did you order yours?

So the spool is good? And you installed on stock mani like I'm doing.

What's your boost target once up and running?

PICS! NEED PICS! haha

Nice work man. Seriously nice work. Sounds like you didn't do much drinkin during all that install work. Good deal.

WOWZERS GTX FTW! Can't wait to see the power from this one!

What are your goals for this setup being on stock mani? Plan on upgrading the mani anytime soon? I know @burn813 has a SteedSpeed Mani with a 38mm wg fitting for 600$ right now

Yeah I didnt get as much drinking done as I'd hoped but u win some u lose some I guess.

Also, I would have installed my new hprv and done the crows foot stud conversion but ... neen waiting on those for weeeks so whatever.

Some quick responses since I'm just on my phone...

1 bar spring
Goals are whatever I can make until fuel runs out so prob not much more than 22-24u psi no meth
Gonna stick with stock mani I think but 600 is a sick deal for that so I'm re-thinking that lol.
My "12psi" map was targetting 1.4 load tuning that way
Will have logs and vidsI asap

Ok so first off, I added a couple pics of the install and I'll get more up later.

Now lets let the fail begin!!!

So the issues I'm having are really weird, but hopefully specific enough for someone to have good advice for me!

First and second gear absolutely rip. I hit 12psi in 2nd at like 3500 rpm, BUT the turbo won't even try to fucking spool in 3rd, then all the sudden I get a crazy boost spike randomly, but seems to be around 5k...

On top of that, when I'm part throttle and/or low boost, my forge bpv works flawlessly, but when I hit 14-16 psi... SURGE.

Before you make any suggestions... I have not done a boost leak test, but I'm at -10psi idle and can't find any leaks from listening for hissing or feeling around. I also know 100% that my GS is hooked up in the correct configuration...ish lol. My "Boost Source" right now is a T'd of line to my BPV.

So, obviously gonna try a different boost source since that was a temp fix cuz I lost my quick tap, but do you guys think that's the reason for the surge? and is so, why only under high boost or heavy throttle?

Then, even if that solves my surge issue, any ideas on the... rips through 1-2 and won't spool in third or up?

Gracias in advance!

This is causing your BOV issues, also could be the reason for your weird boost responce. Fix it ASAP..

Check your tune, you'll hit significantly higher loads at much lower boost with the big turbo, if your load tuning and bouncing of the LEC and BEC limiters you'll have weird boost control problems.
Gracias in advance!

Boost is holding pretty solid now that the GS is really hooked up to all the correct fitting, i.e. NOT T'd into my BPV vac hose, so the surge issue is the only one on the table and it's something I don't want to hang around much longer.

So... Any other thoughts on why I can't get enough air out past 14-15 psi?

It sounds like the BPV may actually be going of at those levels, just still getting comp surge with it, so even though it sounds stupid, is there any chance the Forge literally isn't big enough to evac all the air past that boost level? Or should we stay on the path of a hose possibly being fucked up somewhere?

Oh and btw I also checked to see if my BPV recirc hose was kinked a bunch, and it was kinda, so I took it off for one pull to see if that was the culprit, but again... still surged...

Bump...

Had to drive it to work today and it wants to go soooo bad but I can't boost over 10psi now or I surge.

I just don't get it because if it was a vac line issue I would ne getting the surge at any boost level, not just over x psi right?

Yeah I'm gonna give thay a shot or just throw my stocker on and test. It's just strange that the spring in the Forge operates fine under lower boost which is usually where you would get surge if your spring was too tight.
Also, note that I did not remove my Forge from the cold pipe for the install, I just left it on and took the whole cold pipe out.

mine does the same shit its bpv/bov flutter not surge,

surge is when it is barking out the compressor

if you figure out how to fix it let me know..... ive been told it is normal,

i tried every thing i can think of to curb it, mine is a turbo smart adjustable one

mine happens at partial boost only

Yeah I've always had a little flutter during some part throttle boost, but this is way different. It is very loud and actually makes the car stumble a little.

Anyone with a big turbo running a forge without issue?

Hiw bouta forge and GS ebcs in 3-port without issue?

stumbling doesn't sound like bpv issues. A boost leak (what the bpv not holding boost would cause) shouldn't cause stumbling, IMO.

Stumbles on the shift when it surges. Boost is holding perfectly and spooling fast.

Sounds kinda like an hks supra... but you can tell its literally stopping the comp wheel cuz it stumbles on the shift and takes a long time to re-spool, whereas if I shift at 9psithe its smooth and re-spool is almost ko4 esque

it is definitely likened to the stumble at the very moment it opens the car shuts off for a sec it sucks

it is while accelerating hard then let off a LITTLE TO CRUSE and bingo the car falls on its face, i either let off more gradually , or let off the throttle all the way is the only way to ovoid the terrible stumble.................

unless their is a fix for it but i dono?

Yeah, boost leaks don't cause stumbling, just low power, typically. I had a sizeable leak at the BPV gasket and the car drove fine, it was just stupid slow.

I would try a different BPV, though. If the BPV is acting erratically, and letting off air and then shutting again, that will make your car go crazy. It would be the same effect if you drove around pressing the gas and letting off really quickly a bunch of times. The car would be jerky, no?

edit: just read your response. I was posting when you posted that...only on the shift, hmm....not so sure then

Yeah only on the shift BUT that's exact what it sounds and feels like. Like the bpv is opening and letting some air out but then closing before all the air is out, so the rest of the air is pushed back to the compressor.

Yeah I have some ideas to try now but I'm really thinking that with a turbo that flows so well with such a small hotside that I may just need a bigger bov...

UPDATE:

So while doing some testing for this BPV issue I'm having, I got in it pretty good in 3rd and... Looks like I somehow fucked up on the injector seal install cuz at least one started popping like crazy. I'm 99.9% positive it's the seals and not actual knock cuz I only hit 1.6x load with very little timing and conservative afr.

I was running a reeaaally aggressive tune on the k04, so that's another reason I'm not worried about it being real knock.

BTW I used the stock seals + the new ones, so either that's what's fucking em up, or I didn't torque one of the crows feet down idk.

Will report back tonight, but this is EXACTLY why you shouldn't try to install EVERYTHING in a day lol.

you cant use the stock seals with the cp-e you remove the stock plastic shitters and put only the cp-e, you might of damaged the cp-e seals torquing down with the other ones in the way.
