Sounds like fun, I would like too see what this turbo can do with 40° ambient temps.

Can you post a link please, I wasn't able to find that.

Those numbers I posted up were people running some E. Those are awesome numbers, you should try some E with your meth you could do 500's

Nope, gtx3071r. Look at his profile. He ran his fastest time with that turbo and was making stupid power at 22psi.

edit: Realized there's more than one Anthony with big power. I'm talking about driver311.

Alright another update, So the car feels weird. It feels strong until it is in full boost then it feels like shit. I don't know if its due to being "low" boost for this turbo, or my tune, or the intake being way to small for the turbo 2.5 at the smallest point. Maybe all of them combined?

None the less, here is a log.

I mean it would help if that turbo had a 4in intake.

For 22psi it's pretty loud, can't wait to hear 28.

I'm pulling my intake off tonight to make a new one, so maybe by the end if the week it will be done. I'm still waiting on my map sensor, it was shipped to the wrong address. So now I'm waiting for it to come to the right one.

I assume you worked the timing up to verify you were under MBT?

So I got everything ordered for the intake, and pulled my old one off. Before I did that I redid my tune completely, because the car didn't feel like it should with this turbo. what I got from this new tune a 4.8 60-100. I was getting a 5.3 when I dyno'd, here is a vd/logs 107 is vd 108 is 60-100. This is still on the same psi.

I'm still waiting on my map sensor that I ordered two weeks ago...

13 afr? You commanding that?

Also pull to at least 6500. I bet you will get higher numbers.

Oh alright lol running 13 afr is fine as long as your not knocking. It will help lower IDC. I can't wait ether

Yes that is the standard. Some ppl use smoothing 3 but if 2 is smooth then I'd use that.

put that smoothing at 3!

edit: I see that's a 3rd gear pull.
I hate to call bullshit, but with 400 ft-lbs in 3rd gear, unless you're on radials, those tires would almost be smoking.
edit again: I guess it helps that it's laggy as a mofo, lmao.

Do a 4th gear log and get that boost kicking in sooner! 4th gear is more accurate.
also, don't forget to add your weight in for occupant weight!

edit again again: on your 390whp dyno, was that a corrected number or uncorrected?

LOL, I was going to say he has a chance seeing as though that 400 doesn't hit until 5500rpms.

Really like what you are doing here and those are great peak numbers, but I would like to see a little bit more down low. Have you looked at VVT or anything to help get that beast spooled up a little earlier?

EBCS should help as well as cutting timing in the spool realm. That's a LOT of lag though.

Alright so when I get my new intake I will get some 4th gear pulls, I almost didn't believe the numbers either. Because I had traction in 3rd... I don't know how either.

The dyno numbers were corrected 1.14 so with out correction factor I would of made 330ish

I might next, i'm going to see what this intake does first. I'm kind of okay with how it is though, if it it's true the my factory rods will be happier where they are at. Maybe if I do a build in the spring I will work on spool.

Edit: I thought I would add there is ALOT left in this tune that I just redid. It is the basics, I did timing, fuel, and SFG (specific fuel gravity) for the corn. it is a shitload of lag lol.

Between an EBCS and retarding the timing a bit more down low you could probably be at full boost near 4k. But like you said the rods are more at ease with where power is coming on now. Its probably a beast on the highway though

Considering the results you've seen with the hx35, maybe people should look into the hx30 if they want a thicker powerband. You also wouldn't have to hog out the hotside like you did (or at least a lot less). Would be a pretty good compromise between power/response. Keep up the good work, though.

The machine work you did and the ingenuity is badass.

With that said, I know from personal experience these are some of the worst responding turbos ever, and I would not recommend it to anyone wanting a fun daily. I know everyone wants to get power on a budget, but just realize you're giving up a lot of drive-ability even though you may get the same peak numbers as a more expensive turbo.

By the same token you can't beat a 400 HP setup for a little over 1k total invested. Especially on a fwd car when lag can help traction.

If you are looking for a fun daily set up I would say go for the hx30, If you are going for just a nasty high hp car then the hx35 would be the better choice...

Thank you sir, and I couldn't agree with you anymore. The turbos compressor wheel is so heavy on this 35 I takes a second longer. But this turbo onced spooled will stay spooled between shifts. Great for drag racing, or track racing where you can stay in the higher rpms. If I had a built motor I would really try to improve spool up time. But someone wanting a decent street car the hx30 would be a great altrenitive turbo

^^ This, I added up everything I had done do my car so far. I'm at $2,150.... Some people are almost at that on the ko4. This is a true budget step up, Thats only because I have access to all of the tools/mechains I need to make this possible. Someone could do this with just air-tools, It might take some time but it could be done.

It's not really the "Lag" that I hate so much, but the terrible transient response. Difference being, I think of lag in terms of "What rpm do you hit full spool?" on a single gear pull. The transient response being on/off throttle, between shifts etc.

Believe me I'm a huge proponent of BIG turbos... which is why I bought a turbo much bigger than the hx35. I'm just not willing to lose all that you do, and have to do machine work, just to save a couple hundred bucks.

Just different view points and after experience with both, I would never buy a cheap/old tech turbo again. The new tech just has way to much upside.

My rebuilt HX-30 arrived at my house thanks to @MS3BPS2286. I'm going top mount with the ebay MZ3 turbo manifold from eBay. It'll be done before the year is out. Once tuned I'll start on my compound setup using my GTA4088. If I find an HX-40 before I start I'll do that instead. But I'm super excited for both our builds!!

I def think Holsets are the way to go for a budget build and the ingenuity for swaping hx-40 wheels on the HX-35 will prove helpful for when you dial this tune in and what moar powa!

Honestly I have lost some hp, But my maf needs to dailed in before I can really make any comparisions. Once I get it all cal'd, I will pick up some hp. I picked up alot of g/s and load from this though. But like I said I wont know until it's fully cal's

Also I wanted to add that I used @Lex's maf cal for the 3.5" and the car is only 8.24 out on the ltfs which is with in cobbs cal'ing. If you ever are coming through UT I have some beer with your name on it.
