(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Since building the motor and going BT is such a PITA and expensive I am trying to buy one piece at a time, starting with the most costly and work my way down. I have three questions; 1. Has anyone used the new Garret GTX series turbos? 2. I have never seen an exhaust housing with a v-band flange for a EWG, its normally on the exhaust manifold, would this work fine? 3. Is there an exhaust manifold that uses stock location for gt30 series turbos, so i could bolt a factory location dp to it and have it line up with my catback? BT gods please chime in ![]() Garrett GTX3076R Dual Ball Bearing Turbo : atpturbo.com Externally Wastgated Turbine Housing for Mazdspeed 3/6/CX7 - GT3071R/GT3076R : atpturbo.com

| Not Ranked : 0 score 1: no, nobody has a GTX series turbo on their car to my knowledge 2: EWG flanges on the hotside do work, but since you want a bolt-on option for a turbo's hotside you won't be able to run that. 3: ATP makes bolt-on exhaust housings for these cars, that being said I don't know if the exhaust wheel on a GTX is a different size than a regular 3076. Using a bolt-on housing will require you to run a manifold with an EWG runner. Good luck! Edit: just looked at your second link, that looks promising. Still don't know if a GTX will fit though, most aftermarket manifolds for our cars come flanged for EWG don't they? If you can find one without it I say go for it!

| Not Ranked : 0 score Wow that thing looks insane, certainly nothing like our K04. I know almost nothing about turbos so what are the advantages/disadvantages of running this kind of turbo? Not that I'm considering it, just curious.

| Not Ranked : 0 score UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM..this is "prabaly" the setup Im going with. in my MS3, I have plenty of room. I checked several days ago. The only slight prab is, the ewg flange+Tial wg would rub up or not clear the "stock" oil return line. But I already have a 3071, with atp's ss braided oil return line where I have alittle flexibility, and with that being said it will work out just fine. On the "MS3"...theres enough room to make a simple elbow shaped dumptube, you would go 3-4 inches towards passenger, then aim downtowards ground, plenty clearence. I have been on to the Subi forums, and they also have this as a option, and they are loving this hotside, no boost creep and holds psi really good.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Change angle?? Shouldnt have to..you refering to changing mani flange angle? Few days ago I got underneathe my 09 ms3. I currently have stock turbo-dnp mani. I looked at that atp hotside, the ewg flange will be down at the bottom of the hotside, not the exact bottom, but close. I use the bolt holes where it connects to the compressor for a reference, and compared it with my atp 3071. So getting under the car there is pleny of room as far as I can see. I would "AIM" the Tial ewg towards passenger section of car, thats where you have the most room. *Edit* I also took into consideration that 3071 is larger than k04 lol. And eyeballed the size difference, doing best I can..and should be good to go. I also should say that Iam refering to atp3071 turbo..the atp2871-3076 turbos will fit stock location. This ewg hotside is not any bigger. I emailed ATP. It is a .55 a/r, and is flanged for the oem downpipe and manifold.

| Not Ranked : 0 score ummmmm, i think we are talking about two different things, im talking about the steed speed twin scroll top mount manny for the speed 3. there was a fitment issue with the 3s manny and the 6s fit just fine. we need to find the rite angle for the 3s due to less room than the 6 behind the head.

| Not Ranked : 0 score That would be a killer option, been thinking about this as well hmmmmm... btw, i do believe the gtx series turbos would fit this hotside... From ATP: GTX turbos use same turbine housing as GT turbos and turbine housings are sold separately. This GTX model as uses all the same oil and coolant fittings at the standard GT30R/GT35R turbo.** ** |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Mason, both SSinstaller and SUmark have ms6's, as far as we know the top-mount mani still won't work on the 3. Back on topic, if the GTX has the same exhaust side dimensions I say go for it, I'd be interested to see if the small .55 a/r for the bolt-on housing can keep up with the compressor side of a GTX

Also how did you find out what size it is? I looked on the atp page but it did not list its size.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Okay, well first Leen would need to make you a stock flange IWG manifold bcause your looking at a bolt-on exhaust housing. As for the A/R size, I can't recall where I got it from but I'm 100% it is .55. Yes .55 is small but it also means quick spool, the GTX line is supposed to spool pretty quick with a .82 housing so this will probably be like lightning lol, but since you're forged it'll be fine. I just don't know whether the small exhaust housing will support the better compressor side or if it will not be able to move enough air to get that compressor moving.

| Not Ranked : 0 score The small exhaust housing would negate a lot of the benefit of the GTX compressor, but I'm sure there is a little power to be had. speedsixx said he had his ATP exhaust housing ported out as much as possible. Sounds like that would be a good idea if you're bothering with GTX.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Buying the more expensive GTX turbo makes absolutely no sense if your just going to hamstring it with the Mazda fail turbine housing, and the higher efficiency compressor will make boost creep even more likely than it was on the standard gt's...

| Not Ranked : 0 score Yeah, I should have specified that I wouldn't recommend it. GTX turbos are for ballers. They're meant to be put on custom setups...or at the VERY LEAST, get a stock location T3 manifold.
