Default GT2871r and intake fitment issues.

Either I am horrible at searching or I can't seem to find anyone who has publicly had the issue I am running into with my new big turbo set up. First a little back story. My turbo began to smoke finally and I was going to go with a BNR stage 3 but found out they were on back order for up to 6-8 weeks so I decided on a GT2871r. Along with that I purchased a 3 bar map sensor, Cobb 3 port boost control solenoid, and a JBR 3" wide path intake. Normally I would just do the install myself but I was getting a deal on my tune with Cobb so I took it to them to install. It should have been a single day for install and then tune the next day, but they've had my car for almost two weeks now and I'm going to pick it up myself here soon to finish it then go with email tune from Freek or Stratified. Now on to the issue. They installed the turbo no issue, but they can't get the JBR 3" intake to fit properly. I also purchased a small battery box from JBR to make fitment easier but apparently they are STILL unable to fit it up correctly. They are saying the intake still hits where the battery box goes. And if they try and move it over the intake to turbo coupler kinks. So my question is has anyone had an issue with the JBR 3" intake or 3.5" having room to fit, even with a small battery box, on a GT2871r turbo? Worst case I'll relocate the battery to the trunk but from everything I've researched and seen people are fitting a bigger 3.5" intake on even bigger turbos (ie: GT30 series) with either ecu relocation on factory battery box or a small battery box no problem. So why is Surgeline Cobb having such an issue, am I missing something?

I have a picture that shows the natural orientation with it clamped. They are 3 hours away from me, so all I can work off is the pictures they've sent me. Talking to James Barone it should fit no problem and he has been very helpful when I call, but Cobb pretty much disagrees with anything I say or bring up. Regardless I'm getting my car to finish it myself at this point.image.jpg

It's showing up on my end, I'll see if I can fix that.

it looks like the end is up too high, should be closer to the head.
did you show this to James Barron?

My HTP 3.5" intake fits pretty snugly with an HTP battery box. A little rubbing even. I remember having to squish the intake pretty close to the turbo for it to fit as well.

What is it hitting on?

Yeah I showed it to him and he says it needs rotated a little, apparently the shop did as I said and still having issues.

Apparently it's hitting the small battery box and won't allow the ecu to mount up either. They haven't sent me a picture. They did say when they push it over the coupler kinks. I believe they prefer perfect plug n play. It's getting frustrating. I'll have my hands on it tomorrow but I wanted to see what everyone on here might have to say.

I have the gt2871r turbo and a 3" HTP intake/TIP.

I was able to install both with the factory ecu location and battery box. I then switched to a small battery box and I would use the "hotdog down a hallway" analogy with regards to the room i have.

Someone at cobb is being a dumb dumb....

That bracket needs to line up with the stud pictured above it. Intake needs to be rotated ~8-10*

JBR Tru-3.0 Wide Path Full Aluminum Intake System [MS3-WP-30-AL] - $275.00 : James Barone Racing, Aftermarket Performance

(NOTE: When run with a BNR turbo, ECU relocation is required for proper fitment of this intake.)

Edit: So this is a known issue with the stock battery box...but should it still be an issue with the small battery box?

That's how I feel! Your build thread is one of the ones I saw in my research, I'm like "he mentioned no issues".

That's what James was saying, I told Cobb this and still having issues I guess.

See my room with a 3" intake...

Should be no problem.

Yeah I knew the ecu would need relocated most likely or a small battery box would be no issue. Unless they installed the battery box wrong somehow. I'm taking a truck and trailer to get my car tomorrow. I'll have a better idea at that point.

See and I think the JBR and HTP intakes are fairly the same in shapes and bends, it should it no issue. When I challenged their knowledge I was thrown the "we work on thousands of cars" line. I love Cobb, but their surgeline shop is currently frustrating me.

I'd go look at it for yourself and assess the situation then.

If it helps, fitment on my 3.5 HTP and HTP box. Tight, but certainly not impossible.

edit: This is on a GTX28 frame.

It does. Both of your pictures show me that my intake should be fitting especially with a small battery box. JBR and HTP both look very similar in design so I don't see the issue. I'll hopefully know more tomorrow.
