GT30 or GT35 and why?

Well, I searched in the forum but could not find anything that could directly answer this, only what people have done.

My main concern is: I want to upgrade my car. I definitely want my car to pack quite a bit of hp and be faster. So slowly I have been improving things whenever and wherever I can. Intake, FMIC, Exhaust, AP. Everything I can do I will (money allowing). But I finally started looking into a turbo upgrade and what I found out was that just like a restaurant you have never been to, there are too many options on the menu, if you know what I mean. gt28, gt3071, gt3076, gt35, aerocharger, and the list goes...

The much I have researched, I have narrowed down quite a bit my options:
I do not want a gt28 because I feel that the improvement can be better.
I do not want an "upgraded k04" as I have seen.
I would DIE to have an aerocharger, but the price is just too much.

so, it came down to basically three options: gt 3071, 76 and gt35
now here is where I believe I start to go wrong and need help

if the difference between gt3071 and gt3076 is so small that the change is only the last 2 digits, then its better to get the 71 just because I would be saving about 200 bucks. However, if I upgrade to the gt30 (either one) I will know that there is another one (gt35).

I also understand that the power curve is very different between those two (gt30 and gt35) so we can skip that topic so we can narrow our discussion.

I know my thoughts are kind of all over the place, but just bear with me a little and it might make sense at the end.

So, continuing, lets say (for the sake of the argument) that the upgrading scale is:
k04 = stock
gt28 = stage 1
gt3071 = stage 2
gt3076 = stage 2+
gt35 = stage 3

Which is my understanding, so if I buy stage 2, how far off stage 3 am I?
In other words, how different is gt30 to gt35?

I am asking all this because I don't to upgrade the turbo twice, from k04 to gt30 then gt35 if I can go straight to gt35.

any help is very welcome. if you also know about other places where I can read about the difference other than the seller, then post a link. I am not lazy to read, so I will also appreciate it.

@Bratschist, I believe this topic has been beaten to death in various parts of the forum. You can probably find the info you're looking for if you spend a bit of time/effort searching for it. You've also neglected the GTX series in your calculus.

There are several other turbocharger makes that you may be interested in. But if you want 0 fab work, drop in parts; you have Garrett turbos and upgraded K04.

I get it, not many people like talking about stuff that has been beaten to death, the thing is, I DID look/search and put an effort, but the information is always scattered all over and it would be nice if someone could compile them in a more concise tread where you don't have to read a bunch of unrelated posts. just like I'm trying to do. What I am also trying to do is to get the best posts I find elsewhere and bring to this tread, but my plan might be going down from the beginning with some unrelated posts. In a nutshell your HP goal determines what turbo you want. 300~400+= gtx28, 400~475+ gtx3071, 400~550+ gtx3076, 400~600+ gtx35.

He's never expressed what his goals are, how much horsepower and how he intends to drive the car. The GTX2867 looks to be a fun DD turbo that flows like a GT30 turbo and capable of almost 400 whp. The GTX3071 seems to be very popular for good reasons as he the OP can find in numerous threads. I think it is a sign that not many people that have a MS3 are doing GT35 turbos which I believe is spool and traction. I just don't think it is the right setup for fwd.

These suggestions would be completely different for the MS6 due to AWD to put power to the ground, weight, and drivetrain loss.

get a gtx3076. i have a precision 6031 with 61 lbs flow per min. car is fun but i gotta drive smarter because i dont have full spol till 4300 rpms. i like the gtx's since they offer power with fast response for their size

i wouldnt even consider these stages because your giving up spool and response for top end power

no, they don't make the AC with specific setting, you would have to buy a new header. which is a down side

and most likely a custom DP too

Unless you add additional injectors, there's no point in getting anything bigger than a GT30 series.

I can tell you I like my GTX3071R. The down side is the internal waste gate is shit. With that being said in my very limited opinion with 100 miles daily driven I believe it will be the perfect turbo for this car when external wastegate gets mounted. Keep in mind I do not carry the weight of knowledge that many others have on this site but I know what I read and I know what I have delt with with the ATP turbo. I can say I would not change my choice in turbo other then EWG from the start.

No I was under the understanding that the creap issue was fixed before I installed. at this point I am 1. to lazy to take the turbo out, port then re-install and then be pissed again if the issue remains. 2. I wanted EWG in the first place but failed on intelligent basic finance.

This is what im going with. i have to mount it on my roof and use a really fine chicken wire covered with a sheet as an intake but it should work.
