Here's the comparison between standard GT3071R and GTX3071R. Nice choice as it looks like it outflows the GT3076 too. I also provided the comparison between the GT3076R and GTX3076R if anyone was interested.

I can't ever read these diagrams correctly it doesn't seem, but am I seeing that that GTX3076 is acually spooling as fast or faster than the GTX3071?

Alan, I'm very excited to do the BT install this weekend, I'll be taking many mental notes. I certainly hope to God that I don't end up going all insomniac for the rest of the week too, I feel like shit.

Find your flow and pressure ratio and then you can find the efficiency you are running at. This helps calcumalate a lot of engineering formulas.

Real world though you look at it and say I need to be in this efficiency range, then you ask can I do it will this turbo. You figure you'll run say 24psi which is actually gauge pressure so you'll want to add 14.7psi for ambient which is 38.7 psi. Divide this by 14.7 and you get your pressure ratio

38.7/14.7 = 2.63

So say you only want to be in the most efficient range of the turbo at .77 or 77% efficiency. Then you scroll over and say well i can flow 25-42lbs a minute. So lets just say you shoot for 35lbs a minute.



To get horsepower just divide flow by A/F and we'll just make it simple and use the number .00833. This represents how much fuel it takes to basicly make 1hp. It differs depending on your a/f and the efficiency of the engine.

So 35/(12*.0083)=350hp

Really you don't need to stay in the very most efficient part so hell run 50lbs a minute and make 500hp!

As you can see just tack on a 0 to the air flow in lbs/min and that will give you a ball park answer for hp. And that is crank hp

And at higher elevations, ambient air pressure is lower, so you have to run a higher pressure ratio. So the boyz in NM at 5500 ft are closer to 12.4 psi atmospheric. Then if you wanted to run 24 psi, it would be (36.4)/12.4 = 2.93. You can see you have to run a lot more boost for the same hp (as expected).

Let me make this clear Alan. Let's see numbers as in TRACK NUMBERS! Last thing we need in another unicorn on this site! Get it reliable and streetable like driver311's 3071 was and you'll easily be into the 11s with some time behind the wheel.

I don't know if I am confused, but I'm reading things a little bit different than you. The way I read the chart is that at a pressure ratio of 2.6 the turbo is 77% efficient in the range from 40 to 43 lbs/min.

At 40 lbs/min the turbo is good for 400 HP at maximum efficiency.

DAMN IT! now there's another option? I thought I had my build plans complete... and now I hear about this possibly-bad-ass GTX!?!??!?



Quick question... was the GTX a "drop in kit" with the all the oil/coolant lines, studs and stuff that comes with the ATP's?

You're not understanding what the "GTX" actually is. They're just billet wheels. Housings are the same, everything is the same as the ATP bolt-on.

You can buy the compressor wheel and have a standard GT turbo upgraded to GTX.

actually the housings arnt the same man. the 3071 comes with a .50 and the gtx3071 comes with a .60. compressor housings. same for the 3076r comes with a .60 and the gtx3076r comes with a .70.

Update:

CPE's 4" TIP arrived last night and now the only piece of the puzzle missing is the downpipe gasket and the turbo flange gasket which should be here today.

The work starts tonight at 9:00. @Nataphen and I will be ripping out the intake/intercooler/batter box and all that junk and I'm probably gonna go ahead and install my manual boost gauge to get that out of the way. Then Saturday morning @DingoDave and @16-driver will join Nate and I in pulling the downpipe/exhaust mani/turbo and then putting everything back together. I would like to be rolling before dark but with my luck, that is probably not gonna happen. There will be atleast 1 bolt that takes more than 5 hrs to remove...
