Car has been down since October with what is believed to be a broken piston in cyl 3 and a severely slipping clutch.
I had slowly been collecting parts for a rebuild since I purchased the car, because I knew this would be an inevitability.
The first bits I acquired were for a VVT job that never needed to be done. So I already have everything on the timing side that I need for that, including a PTP VVT.
@DylanFYHN; hooked me up huge with dealer discount on all the miscellaneous oem parts I was gonna need.
I got a pretty good deal on Manley H-beam rods from @timjs; with the standard ARP2000 rod bolts.
@Polish_Eagle; hooked me up on a brand new ACT HD full faced clutch kit with Prolite flywheel, as well has been generous enough to loan me his hoist and engine stand. He also built me a pigtail for a 3 bar map sensor. Thanks for living on my street man.
@Captain KR; sent me a set of cpe stage 2 pistons that weren't gonna work for his build. He a good nigga.
@Celestspeed3; and I patched up all our stupid bull shit that really didn't had anything to do with each other to begin with, and he sold me what basically equates to a cpe atmosphere kit, that he had pieced together for himself, and never got the chance to install. There will need to be copious amounts of handies provided in return for the AMAZING deal on this setup. Pics below, but it includes a cpe TiAL v-band mani, ceramic coated. Ceramic coated TiAL .82 a/r hotside GTX3067, and all the clamps, feed and return lines. The best intake for the platform, hands down. HTP 4" with recirc tube, threaded for fittings, bead rolled on both ends and with honeycomb air straightener. Ceramic coated TiAL waste gate. Custom v-band downpipe, and custom open dump tube, fabbed to clear all teh tings.
Huge shout out to @silvapain; for helping me acquire a brand new short block, and deal with all the shipping hassles that accompanied it as well as the factory service manual and a tripod for the tranny mound, as mine was hanging on by only a couple threads. Can't thank you enough for all of that.
@Justin@Freektune; has been there every step of the way to bounce ideas off of and offer technical support. I have a great deal of respect and trust for Justin, as he has an incredible failure rate of 0% (knock on wood pal) for all the builds he's put out. I rely heavily on his knowledge base.
Managed to pick up a refreshed head from a recycler in the states, but it looks as though I'll be doing some refreshing of me own on it shortly.
The short block is now forged and the clutch is mounted.
I'll be picking apart this head during the evenings this week to see what all will need replacing.
@xxdjfate76xx; and @Sid3wayS; will be supplying my intake mani, until the Tokay Racing unit makes its debut to corner the intake manifold market.
Shout outs to all my #HAR fam for the lulz and support and being my sounding board since October to listen to me bitch about not being able to drive the car, and everything else, since that's all I do.
I'm doing all the assembly and install myself in my garage, little bits at a time, can't hope to have the car running by September. Just in time to put it back away again.
Protege Garage will be supplying the front mount kit with TR8 core, as well as any other misc. parts I'm gonna need.
The goal here is a modest 400whp and wicked fast spool so that I can have that instant torque to drive off of apexes. Meth will be added to the equation, likely before the build is running, and power should increase accordingly.
@rfinkle2; was my tuner when the car went down, and I hope to retain him for tuning this build. Anyone who's dealt with Rob knows why. I've also bounced hard parts and ebc ideas off of him through out my parts acquiring process. He's been a great help, as well has @ms3blackmica;
I hope I haven't forgotten anyone. If I have it was unintentional, and I will edit post accordingly.

There aren't any e pumps in Ontario anymore, and when there was, they wouldn't let you pump your own, and would only put it in your car if you had a flex fuel badge.

Not a lick.
One was slightly tighter at the bottom, but it still measured in spec for pwc and I went big on the ring gaps since they don't actually matter, so they're not gonna butt down there either.

Good luck man. Love that turbo setup, the GTX 67mm wheel is a champ and you are really letting it breathe on the exhaust side on this setup, love it.

Wow, the turbo and manifold setup is great! Especially since you have the freedom to swap a/r sides if you feel like it.

Engine spec tolerances tighter than a dolphins asshole? I wouldn't expect anything less from a guy that's familiar with machining and metallurgy.

I couldn't care less about in cabin vibes. I basically have 3 solid mounts.
I retained the balance shaft for engine longevity.

Do you really think it'll make that big of a difference? Why not just get the crank balanced to within a gram?

The balance shaft is not there to balance an out of weight crank.
It is there to relieve the inherent imbalance of the firing order in an inline 4 cylinder motor.
If the rotating assembly isn't weight balanced accordingly, you're gonna have a bad day from the get go and no balance shaft or harmonic balancer is gonna help you.

Interesting, I would assume that you know that ford sold the ranger with 2.3L duratec with no balance shaft, basically same motor. If there was concern about longevity, would they have been sold without balance shaft? The understanding is that the balance shaft is only for NVH. No reason to put that shit back in.
