Default HTP 3" Turbo Inlet

Decided to save some more skrilla and go with a different inlet then CPE's pos. It's 3" so it will flow the same amount as cpe's... I was tipped off @EL F00LI0 and decided to contact HTP. These are the same guys who make the ebay 2.5" tip on ebay. Exchanged a few emails and decided to just get the 3" tip made. Total price 120 + priority shipping. Total price 132 dollars. Welds are great, reducer, clamps, vacuum tube all came with the turbo inlet

The cool thing is HTP offered to make a full 3" intake with maf housing. I already have the parts to connect some tubes and do this, but is cool that they offered to make 1 piece. I asked if they can do bigger and it sounds like they are possibly willing to make bigger size tips then just 3" and maybe open to the possibility of doing full sized intakes that are bigger then 3". But I didn't really want to relocate the battery box.

Good to know we have one more bolt on option for a platform. Unfortunately only I and el foolio have ordered these as far as I know The 3" tip is not something they stock and therefore is fabbed upon request. Took them a week to make and ship out. Took about 2 weeks ordering through the holiday week. If there's enough interest I'm sure this is something they might decide to stock a few.

Exactly, Do I want to save 80 dollars and get a full aluminum pipe or CPE slug. Hmmm. I've also heard that CPE's turbo inlet does not totally sit flush on the compressor housing, that it is crooked. Not sure if that's been fixed or not. Either way, great customer service, product, and price.

Thanks for the walk around, looks like a nice piece for the money. Will the one piece 3" intake require a battery relocation?

They said no it will not, that it should be a very tight fit. I'll let everyone know for sure when I install the turbo. But I figure worst case i have to move the ecu

They said the same to me. It should fit perfectly. I've seen pics of cageyvets engine bay and he had a 3" inlet and ecu wasn't relocated.

the only thing that worries me about this is the need for a couplar btwn the turbo and the tip which is prone to leaks and the CP-E tip barely fits because its silicone because of the harnesses in the way it allows it to bend i wonder if that will be an issue on an all metal TIP in for pics after install!

They sent me a black coupler for the turbo, and I can tell you that thing is NOT coming off. I barely fit it on for the test fit and I still can't get it off. With tbolt clamps there's no way in hell that coupler will ever come loose.

Should know very soon, i'll be starting next week probably wednesday or thursday. As far as the coupler, not worried about it leaking, solid.

Ya i did because I didn't wanna spend extra money for the metal gasket that isn't crush able I just used a thin layer of rtv on each side of the gasket for extra protection. And yup standard Mazda hotside

I took off my turbo two time and used the same gaskets, no ussues at all. My car was on 15000 miles though. If it looks bad that yes otherwise you should be fine.

It works and fits fine. The stock recirc tube is about an inch too short though so expect to buy a little longer line.

Depending on where the exhaust manifold positions the "big turbo" dictates whether you'll need a longer recirc tube or not.

We are also now producing these with provisions to run the valve cover vent and a slightly tighter radius on the bend to give more clearance to the ECU.

Thanks
Matt

I wonder if there is a difference (heat) between the powder coated and the polished one or it is just "The Look" ?

EDIT: I am with stock turbo, should I even bother buying 3" ?

3" TIP is not necessary at all on stock terboh. If you plan on upgrading, doesn't hurt to get it now, though.

I have been looking for a tread like yours and could not find any. Man, no space at all! Thanks for the link here, and the tread . I would just go with the 2.5.

the k04 can utilize a 3" intake. There is a thread out there somewhere, discussing the effects of a full 3" intake on the k04. it can be argued weather or not it does or doesnt give you a power gain, but it will not hurt your k04 and if you decide to go BT you already have the intake needed

Yeah, just that people on e85 have been able to hit 330whp with a 2.5" TIP, regular intake, and downpipe pretty consistently. I'm not saying it's bad to get a 3" for k04, but it's not necessary. The price of the HTP TIP/MAF is very hard to pass up, though, so might as well.

Yeah there is really no way to do it without some sort of ecu mounting modifications

I thought that the thread ended up more or less at the consensus that a 3" intake was kind of a waste if you had no plans for BT?

I agree that it will not hurt to have one, but will the full effects of such a part really show on the stock turbo? I myself happen to be in the camp that says "no it wont". But im hardly any authority on the topic.
