Default Its time to upgrade the turbo, need help/info with flange and ar setup

So Im pretty set of a gt or gtx3071. Ive spent a lot of time reading almost all of the threads in this section and now have a few questions on the best setup for us. Really how bad is the stock mazda flange and atp's bolt of hot side? My goal is to have the car capable of 120mph traps and still be fun for my wife to drive to work. My track has great air in the winter, DA ranges from 1000 to -1000. After some reading in the drag section, it looks like its going to take a little over 400whp to run that mph. Here are the setups that Im looking at

Steedspeed stock location mani, atp bolt on turbo kit w/ ewg housing

or stepping up to a t3 flanged ewg SteedSpeed mani and run a gtx3071 .82ar vband

What Im wondering is if Im only looking to push low 400 at the wheels is it worth all the extrawork to go with the t3 setup? Its going to cost more and add to the complexity of the setup. Ill have to make a vband dp or modify my existing dp. And then I have read that if you want the t3 SS mani with a gt30 turbo that you have to do the tilted flange? Is that true? I guess I dont understand why you can run a gt30 with the stock mani/atp setup. But if you want the t3 flange setup you need to tilt the flange. Which brings about its own problems with the intake. From pics it looks like the tilted flange puts the intake right in the way of a few heater lines and hoses. And people are having to rig up the lines or just manhadle the intake on.

And what is more restrictive, the mazda flange, or the atp .55ar hotside? And if it is the hotside that is so restrictive wouldnt it help with efficiency if you ran an ewg setup with dump. That way the hotside doesnt have to also deal with the extra wastegate air?

Also looking at doing the maperformance ported intake at the same time. When are you guys having to go to a larger maf? Does it become a restriction or is the problem with pegging it?

From what I've seen, ATP bolt-on plus aftermarket manifold is the way to go. Going custom t3 is nothing but a headache and only necessary if you want OVER 500whp. A banned member on here made over 450whp with ATP 3076, stock motor, etc.

My vote is ATP GTX3071, Steedspeed manifold, 3" MAF, ported intake manifold, and Grimmspeed boost controller. That is a winning combo.

Anthony (driver311) trapped 120 with that turbo, and there's more left in it.

This^^^ Minus the Steedspeed manifold. Do yourself a favor and either keep it stock or get a REAL manifold IMHO.

Full Race will be release their Pro Stock Replacement manifold in a couple weeks and it will be second to none.

Why would you keep the stocker over the Steedspeed mani? It looks like its pretty nice. And Im sure it flows better than the stocker. And since its cast it should be very reliable

Ive run both the setups youve posted in your op. My first set up was the atp ewg 3076 hotside with a 2.5 gallons e-85 tune and at 24psi I made 447whp.

On my new 3076 t3 .82ar setup the car has now hasnt been dynod but its crazy fast.

Either setup will be fine for you its just personal preference. The t3 can suck to install depending on the tilted/non tilted manifold.

The atp drop in is a breeze and that paired with a gtx ewg setup that would be perfect for you imo. It wouldnt hurt to get the gtx3076 just in case you wanted more power down the road its just right there.

The difference in spool would be minimal on that small hotside. You will need a big maf to get to that 450 and mbc or ecbs. Also I never ran meth on either of my setups or a pnp intake mani.

450whp would be perfect... I think

I mean how much power do you really want with an FWD on street tires?? MOAR is probably the answer haha

We are running 2.5gal of e-85 with our tune now and will continue that with no meth. So looks like thats pretty much the exact setup we want.

I will be contacting you as soon as we are ready to go

Do you think the ported intake and VCTS, or is it VTCS?? delete is worth doing?

thanks agian

Because it's a $600 glorified log manifold and a half step toward an optimal equal length tubular manifold IMHO.

This is why I recommended either keeping the manifold stock or doing it right either now or down the line.

Why waste money on a half solution for half the gains?

It IS strong and heavy, but so is the stock manifold. Just MHO.

I see what your saying, but it doesnt look anything like a log manifold to me. i guess some have different ideas of what that is. Id say looks more like a cast tubular mani.

To me a log mani would have all the runners dumping into a big log area that has a flange slapped on it. My buddies turbo truck has one.

From what Ive seen the Steedspeed mani's have divided passages inside of it that feed into the flange.

And its probably going to be half the cost of that FR tubular piece that your talking about? But i will check it out when it is released.

And the FR mani is probably going to be equal length isnt it? Which would be no more burblely exhaust note

Yeah the ss does flow really well and is extremely realiable. You dont have to worry about any kind of turbo brace.

As far as getting the ported im its really up to you man. If you go with the gtx76 you will have no problem making that 450 even without a ported im.

I honestly thought I would be plenty happy with the 450 I made and well yeah you can always use more. lol Yes I had a hard time with traction with that on street tires but 3rd gear and up its all worth the extra power

Thanks for the reply, ya not looking to push over 500 for sure. The atp looks like a very appealing and simple setup.

If sticking with the atp setup is it worth going with the 3076 over the 3071. Just wondering if the smallish mazda flange and .55ar gains anything but lag with the bigger 3076. Is anyone running the atp gtx3076?

The GTX3071 is perfect for you. It is plenty capable of achieving 450whp. And it will spool as early as 3200rpm. There is a lot of tuning/fueling factors that go with these numbers but still, if you are looking for a relatively easy 400whp then the GTX3071 is the turbo for you.

Sorry, I mean the ATP bolt on GTX3071. No reason to go through the hassel of going T3 if when the bolt on option will get you to your power goal with plenty of room to spare.

ATP GTX3071 is the new popular choice, a setup I'm heavily considering. You can easily reach your power goal. Definitely try to break into 12's on that K04 first though .

Internal wastegate is the way to go (gtx3071), especially if it will be driven by your wife.

@sg1320

Also I never ran meth on either of my setups or a pnp intake mani.

dont waste your time with the 3071. GTX3076 is the only way to go. you dont loose any spool over the non GTX but gain 10 lb/min.

gtx3071 = gt3076

Thanks for all the replies.

When she said she wanted more power I told her we could do a bigger snail. She said it better have an open gate on it! HAHA

She isnt the normal girl, she has had some pretty roudy cars.

So an EWG is a must, which I think sounds like pure sex

So which ewg setup would be better, having the gate off of the SS mani or get the ewg atp hotside?

I was thinking that having the gate below the turbo with the atp setup would keep more heat out of the engine bay and be very easy to make the dump pipe. But does it work as well as having the gate off the mani? I always thought the proper location was on the mani

LOL. That is cool that your wife wants an ewg.

I went for a ride with someone with an atp ewg'd hotside (and dump pipe), and call me a bitch, but that shit was too loud!. LOL.
