Default Low Oil Pressure Built Motor

Hey i was wondering if any of you guys are experiencing low oil pressure on your built motors? At idle im seeing about 19psi and my oil light is flickering. the shop that did the build said they built it loose at about 3000 of tolerance. I used wiesco piston but we moved the oil squirters. Im using carrlilo rods and my compression is 190-190-190-190.

Also what oil and weight are you guys running. Im currently using 15w-40 no synthetic. I have almost put 500 miles on the motor then ill be changing over to synthetic.

I keep getting a cel for p0012. We have checked the timing and believe this light because of the low oil pressure and the vvt can not properly engage.

I run Rotella T6 5w40, but I'm not sure if that would help you...ask Dustin what his clearances are since I know he has good oil pressure.

Yeah that's mad low. Usually a blocked passage would result in high oil pressure, but I wouldn't rule it out.
I'd pull that oil filter and see if there's anything obvious in there.
Also, you may end up needing to pull the pan to inspect the pickup.

I think a local guy had this issue after his built motor and it was his rear main seal. end of the day that motor is going to have to come out to investigate. Sorry man. But give us the run down on the situation? is it your stock block built? did your stock motor die? who did the work? did you reuse any parts. did one shop do the entire build?

unless the blockage is right before the OP sensor, then the pressure drop would cause this.

i would move your OP sender around to different parts of the oil system and see if you can trace any abnormalities

Thanks for the info guys. I been working with DJ on the matter because were also trying to dial in a tune. The same shop did the entire build. I started with a used block and head but had it all sent off to the machine shop and checked out. I have no oil leaks to my knowledge.
Dj was thinking it was my rod bearing even though there brand new might be to thin for the build. Since no one makes over sized rod bearing my only option would be to get them coated.

I just trying to see if anyone else had this issues

What are you guys oil pressure? What should i be aiming for?

It sounds like a clearance issue . Did they plasi-gauge everything ? Also take a reading of oil pressure at the head . There should be a spot u can check it at , you should have some real low pressure there.

Im not sure how loose that tolerance is, but if the motor is buil loose you will need to run heavier oil to account for the larger gaps

Did you buy a plug for them to install?
If not it's a pretty easy fix.
I wouldn't run the car without one.

We had that issues, I installed a motor. he had another shop build. Once car got warm oil preassure ligh flicked at idle. (light comes on around 10psi) dropped pan (its usually not that bad). and sure enough the BSD kit was not there. Bolt or plate to block hole. Installed it, Cheacked preassure after instal. Ran to specs. Car has been running fine (and tracked and bolt ons added) since then. he has a few thousand miles. already.

19psi of oil pressure is pretty normal at idle i believe. i have the sandwich plate above the filter and when the motor is warm, oil pressure reads about 12-15psi. increases linearly with rpm.

Possibly just a bad sensor then.

Same for me. Routinely have seen between 15-20 PSI at idle for 3 years now. Both on the stock block (from about 3000 miles on) and now on the built block. I would have to guess your dummy light sensor is bad.

Do you have the oil pressure sensor on the sandwich plate or on the filter housing ?
Try this
1. Remove the oil pressure switch.
2. Screw in a oil pressure gauge into oil pressure switch installation hole.

3. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
4. Run the engine at the specified speed, and note the gauge readings.
If not within the specification, inspect for the cause and repair or replace if necessary.

NOTE:

The oil pressure can vary with oil viscosity and temperature.

Oil pressure (reference value)
[oil temperature: 100 °C {212 °F}]
297—551 kPa {3.03—5.61 kgf/cm2, 43.1—79.9 psi} [3,000 rpm]

If you are pushing low oil pressure and everything is accounted for such as the BSD you might consider running a 20w50 oil. On a built turbo engine you really should run the thickest oil possible. AMSoil has some great articles on built engines tolerances and oil weight. If you want some reference material. Also fuck plasti gauge use a proper tool sense that only measures one area and is a biased measurement.

Did you check the BSD by removing it and inspecting the O-ring? I have seen these fail on a few kits if the O-ring is made of rubber just a heads up. Best is to ether have a plug pressed into the hole with a back plate for support or welding it shut.

Yea i solved it after i spun 3 of 4 bearings lol. The PTP bsd plug that was in my used block failed and wasnt holding pressure and finally gave out and dropped all pressure. It was a freeze plug design. Im now using a sure bsd plug and no issues.

Can't remember but i think we got this from street unit.. you can see a pic of it here... sorta

As i told you this morning that my car is doing this wild LOW OIL LIGHT thing in my car as well. It just started on my car though and i have 20,000 miles on my built motor. But my DEFI oil pressure gauge shows i am getting the same oil pressure as i have always gotten as its warming up it is about 60 psi. At idle i get about 19-21 psi i believe. I will take a video tomorrow as to what mine is doing. I also checked my oil and the level is fine. I let my car Idle for about 20 minutes or so this morning and the flickering light was there. This is the first i have ever seen of this..

Stop driving it!!!! you should have like 45-50+ at idle. i had the same oil pressure 19-20 before i spun all 3 something is wrong!!!! trust me. i bet the oil light goes away instantly when you drive or rev too. its sounds just like mine and its bad. I switched up to a heavy oil and it only masked the problem. i as using 20-50 and it helped but really all it did was buy me time before i was dead in the water

I think that your problem might be different than ours. i think your problem might have been oil pump related or tolerance related.. None of the motors that we have built has ever spun a bearing at least not to my knowledge. About the 50-60 psi at idle.. yes my car does do that when it is cold starting, but when it is normal operating temperature it will go down to about 19-21 psi.
