Muffhugger's BNR s4 build

For $1250, I couldn't pass up the new BNR s4. Had been itching to a swap so I started collecting parts. Already had: internals, AP, downpipe, intake, FMIC, and all the basic stuff. Ordered parts and patiently waited for the opportunity.



Finally everything arrived. Even got a high flow "cat." badum tshhhh


Began the swap in my parents' garage. Big thanks to @AnimalMother; for the hand on that first day.









Had my parts all organized with internet access and cold beverages




Got the intake off (AnimalMother) and was ready to take the rail off as well.





With the intake off, I could access the stock PCV plate and upgrade it to a Damond one.





Rail off and injector seals (toyota) ready to go on.

Had the opportunity to have it dyno tuned by Justin at FREEKTUNE. Put down 357WHP and 353 WTQ on 93 octane alone. Next step is to tune for the meth and another for e85.

Looks good man clean install nice looking engine bay. I think I'm going to start piling up the necessary goodies for a complete swap with the S4 too.

How was the quality on that XS Power manifold? Id like a turbo manifold but not to the tune of $800....

The welds look great and it's put together really well. The only problem I had was not having the studs in the turbo when I mounted it. It was a tight fit and cost me a day on the install. If you get the locking nuts, you're going to have a hard time getting to 3/4 of the bolts.

The new corksport battery box didn't like the HTP 3.5" so I opted to go with the HTP battery box and a 51r.

The other problem I encountered was the XS power manifold and getting it squeezed between the manifold studs and turbo itself. Then it was getting it lined up onto the turbo flange that proved to be a pain in the ass. Overall if I could do it again, I would take the exhaust studs out by the turbo and leave the studs in on the turbo flange.

Wired the meth today. Left LED is low level (red) and the right is the pump activation LED (green). Wired in a kill switch as I don't always want to run meth. That is in the very back of the cubby and has its own LED to let me know if the system is armed or not. This is it off.

That's exactly where I put my red and green led's, when I installed my kit 4 years ago. But I actually put the lights in the left most switch holder, and moved everything else inward. It was easier for my eyes to quickly look at that spot instead of the inner spot that you have it. Makes for a very clean install!

After testing it out today, this seems like the best course of action. Glad I am not the only one who ran into this. Gonna change this out ASAP

Sprayed a little bit of 50/50 last night with the 375ml nozzle and my BATs went way down to 57 when ambient temp was around 85. Can't wait to switch it out for the 625ml nozzle.

I am still somewhat a noob myself so it took a while. Keep in mind I had to wait for parts as well so the total time was just under 2 weeks. I wasn't working on it every day as well. I say the hardest part (depending where you live) would be getting the manifold off. I got the car when I was in Washington and it hardly snowed last year, here in Illinois, so I got lucky with not having rust/corrosion issues.

I agree. I was expecting that car to run out of fuel first and need larger meth nozzles to max out the turbo. Turns out the s4 doesn't like the top end a whole lot.

I just remember everyone thinking we could have 5s with this turbo, but apparently not. Still, if I was in the market for an s3, I would spend the extra 1-200 and buy the s4. Room to grow and it won't give up on the top as easily as a s3 will at lower power levels.

I hear boost creep is a lot more manageable on the s4 vs the s3.

You're going to need that 625 for added fuel, once you start turning the boost up
