Default New Turbo manifold worth it?

Hey everyone i'm doing my big turbo install this weekend. I'll be installing my new gtx3071r ATP drop in turbo. I was considering buying a new full-race pro-stock turbo manifold to fit the stock mazdaspeed flange. I talked to them today and they currently have one in stock. Since these manifolds are not cheap, is it worth replacing the stock manifold? How much HP increase would I see paired with this turbo?

My goal is 400whp daily driver and another map at 450whp for aggressive/track map. With that said is it worth getting the new manifold? Please see my signature for list of current mods.

In addition to my current mods i'll be installing gtx3017r, htp 3" inlet and grimmspeed ebcs this weekend.

Stay with stock manifold or upgrade to full-race pro-stock manifold? I just dont want to spend that kind of coin to meet my goal if i dont have to.

Honestly, that's one expensive(nice) mani, BUT the stock Ex.Mani flows!

Put that $1k+ towards building the engine. Then get a new mani.

*edit* You'll need extra fueling to reach those power goals.

I'd like to stay stock mani if it flows as long as I can fit a 44mm ewg clange somehow, or some hotside comes with 44 flange?

Mmmmm Meth

To put all that ball bearing goodness on a stock em is kind of a pickle. I am sure you would want an EM down the road.

Sure it could get you there, but I would personally do it all at once and not sweat it.

*edit* I didn't look at the price. You talk to edge and see if they had any super sale goin on right now? Your heart set on that brand?

we have reason to believe that the stock manifold outflows the head, so without head work, an exhaust manifold is kind of redundant unless you're after a different flange.

450whp is gonna be a tall order on the gtx3071. It's capable, but you're looking at an e85 map with either 5th port or methanol supplemental, minimum. Probably want to go ewg too, ported head, ported stock IM, good fmic, and at least 3" intake. Probably 3.5 bar map sensor as you'll probably need >30 psi to hit 450whp

Good to know. I'm already running meth, i've ported the IWG on the 3071r, I have access to E85 near by, head is not ported, i have a cp-e fmic and looking at modifying my cp-e CAI. I was thinking of buying the 3" treadstone MAF and cutting my MAF out of my cp-e intake and tig welding the treadstone into that so i have a true 3" CAI with 3" MAF.

Ack, looking at your elevation, methinks 450whp will be out of reach, uncorrected. 3" MAF should work but I'd go 3.5" if you can, full intake.
And without built motor, I'd definitely do a reverse taper

i'm only at 1200ft elevation, not that high up vs some other folks.

I'm talking to a friend right now about helping me with some welding. Was thinking of cutting the 2.5" MAF out of my CP-E CAI and having him weld the 3" treadstone MAF to my intake. Then it would be a solid 3" all the way back to the turbo.

Why not buy the maf flange from treadstone as well and sell the cai? Am I missing some thing? One other point treadstone sells a complete MAF housing.

I bought the 3" MAF housing from treadstone. I just wanted to have a 3" cold air intake with a 3" MAF in it. I dont think anyone sells a CAI with a 3" MAF in it. All of them are just SRI intakes from what i've seen. Less crap gets on the intake where it sits as a CAI vs the location of the SRI.

The Full-Race piece is one of the best (If not THE best) on the market, but even with it... I'd still say 400-420 FWHP would be about all you can get out of the 3071R without pushing past its efficiency range.

Honestly though, with FWD, anything over 380-400 is kind of a waste anyway IMHO.

I have a FR manifold for stock flange, 2000 degree coated im on the fence about selling, I wanted to go BT but my funds don't look like they'll allow it anymore.

I also got their anatomy of a turbo shirt to go with it, but it looks like I'll never get to wear it

It looks sooo pretttyyyy toooo....

If the head is the biggest restriction in the equation, it doesn't matter how best "THE best" manifold on the market is. It won't net any gains.

It will net gains, just not as much as if it were bolted to a ported head or larger flange.

Plenty of people see gains, quicker spool, and better topend with almost any aftermarket TM... It's just not drastic.

It's definitely not a great dollar to HP mod, but for those looking to squeeze all they can out of their setup... Sure, it helps.

A head will definitely net gains, just not as significant as if the head were ported and the exhaust port restrictions were cleared out.

The exhaust manifold only helps spool by a few hundred rpms from what I have seen. Even more so than the head, the ultimate restriction around peak power is the hot side/turbine on the turbo. Whatever manifold you use will have the same back-pressure at the head as long as the turbo and tbe are the same. Where is helps is separating exhaust pulses in the lower rpms, keeping one from interfering with the blowdown on the next. Longer runners will exhibit this benefit further into the rev range but that's the only variable here really.

And stop sleeping on the iwg x71 people. That turbo is perfectly happy at 450whp as long as the fueling and the octane is there to support it, and could be pushed for 500 if you wanted to get crazy. look at 12pk's results.
