Ok, update time.

Picked up the snail this week. Well it's pretty heavy lol....dnp mani looks pretty serious in person. Welds are tight, no chips or cracks or anything. In need of a little cleaning to come very soon. Tial wastegate is a monster as well. Attached is a Perrin ebcs, not grimmspeed. My mistake.

Current tasks are creating a dump tube solution and welding the turbo.

Dump tube is currently vta, as evidenced in the closeup pic. That happens to be illegal as hell haha, so options are to chance running it vta as is, and just lengthen and reroute the exit towards the opening around the dp so I don't get soot on everything, or have a shop create a custom weld in my dp to recirc it back into the exhaust. I'll be going for route 2, and will most likely have bay state muffler do it.

Second is welding the turbo. It was originally iwg, so I will be welding the flap for the iwg closed, and removing the arm that was connected to the iwg all together. More details and pics to come soon

@PartiAudiMazdarati you going to dyno again before the new turbo? Maybe to see the graphical difference the BT makes over the k04...?

I'd be curious to see the pre and post dynos.

Of course. I need some sort of benchmark to know what I've picked up, plus I'm curious as well. Not sure when, but I'll make time before install. Once the turbo is welded, she's ready to go in, save for the 3 bar map sensor and the mounts; I'll have to plan for this soon. Wouldn't mind hitting the track again and pulling this 12 out, but I also risk breaking something each run, so I think I might lay low and dyno, then run with the bt after mounts are in

I will be selling my dreadnaught in the next week or two, if that would be good for your build success. Have you considered upgrading the front engine mount as well, or is that not needed?

Oh, are the TQ/HP numbers in your sig after being tuned with those mods?

@PartiAudiMazdarati, looking sexy man!

@jrlms6 the difference in tq won't be huge, but the hp number will be about 30 over Darnells current tune. Although peak numbers won't seem huge, the way the gt28 continues to make power past 5200 will be the biggest improvement, and biggest difference at the track/street when riding out 4th gear!!

Congrats on picking up the turbo! +1 on going ewg. Idk what spring combo you'll be running, but my ewg is silent until about 10-12psi. So I can drive normally, with good pick up in stealth mode. Idk how much air 28s flow, but it'll be more than the k04 at the same psi. My 76 flows about 100g/s more than the stocker at 20psi. Also, you could have you dump tube routed like mine where the only thing getting soot is the road.

I hear you though about not wanting shit or a ticket for vta. I havent got one and Ive been pulled over for screaming past a cop at 65 in a 35 (it was dusk, and I was watching the road). He just told me to 'fix your exhaust' lol.

@dougefresh_ I'm not taking any chances dude lol.....you know some of them go hard and I damn sure don't need anything else they can issue a citation for. Meant to ask about the turbine tech front mount. Did you install this or did you just stick with the diff mounts?

The TT mount is a diff mount, but for the front. It is also unnecessary, and I wouldnt bother. You definitely need a rear diff rear mount tho (referred to as a 'rear diff mount'). Other than that, Id Just get a RMM if you dont already have one.

Nice set up! you plan on running e85? you will need it to pull them definitely. My cousins gtx3071 on 93 tune was dead even with our nator e85 cars.

@bwspeed Not as nice as gtx 3071 lol....28 will do for now though. I did see the vid of the runs with the crew though. Definitely going to need e or meth, or possibly both shit lol. Justin has these damn k04's acting like they flow 400 g/s lmao.....Ran @BigJimMs3 tonight and he pulled a good 2-3 cars by 5th. Bitch claims I jumped, but he honks fucked up normally, but neither here nor there. All I know is I'm stepping on some puu when the big boy's in, simple as that

Dropped her at North Shore Machining this morning though to have the iwg flap welded. Last weld was shitty as evidenced by photos lol....hit boost and literally it blew that weak shit open. Think it was nickel or possibly a tig weld attempt. Guy plans to weld a plate a little ways in the hole, so rather than weld a seam, he'll be able to weld the top of the plate. Don't know if you can visualize, but it should be done by Monday and I won't have to try to describe the work

Update time

Terboh is welded......muther fucker needed lots of pressure to get it done though.

I dropped it Friday, so dude legit had the weekend to finish. I call him yesterday and he's like ooo, mad legal shit man, didn't have time, I'll definitey get it done by tomorrow. Today is tomorrow, and again he says ooo man, had like 25 calls today, never know when the work will come, didn't have time. I'll try to finish before I leave; actually, give me a call tomorrow. So I said fuck that, I'm coming to get my shit, found another shop, and he says oooo, ok well I'll get it rolling for you now it'll be done by the time you get here. I get there, he's just starting and 30 mins later for $40, the iwg flap is permanently closed. BUT I digress . My bad. Back to build.

Weld looks legit. Don't think even if I was pushing 70 psi that thing is coming out. All in all, I'm pretty satisfied with the quality of the work. Should hold great, even if it's not pretty

Next will be mounts and 3 bar map sensor, and we should be golden. So, time to figure out a weekend to get this bitch in.

Glad you got it taken care of. My schedule is pretty much a nightmare at this point, lol. I have the gf coming back in a few days, ma duke's bday down the Cape in 2 weeks, and a CPA exam on July 2. Oh, and I may have to drive to MD for a full week before that to learn an entire business and accounting system so I can do my consulting work at home when I get back. I'd plan on counting me out, but if somehow things work out and I'm free, I'll lend a hand.

Whoo wee......this has been a helluva build...lot of fail, but we're damn near wrapped up.

First off, I'd officially like to recognize everyone coming by to lend a hand with this, specifically @Ihatefwd, @BigJimMs3, @darkcherry, @dexter_5000, who have came by just about every day since we began. I seriously would still be up shits creek without you guys, and like I said I can't express my gratitude enough.

Well we tried installing on the install meet I hosted on 8/19, and pretty much ran into nothing but fail lol....Jim and I managed to uninstall everything, intake, inlet, batt, etc save for 2 bolts, one stuck on the mani and 1 on the turbo which held the mani and k04 on. Fighting with it for the whole day, all we managed to do was strip it, which further sucked ass.

Good thing is we only needed a 14 mm socket to take all 14 bolts (10 on mani, 4 on turbo) off, but word of advice, BUY SOME PB BLASTER!!!!! And make sure you have a striped socket set handy in case the bolts dont want to budge. Another tip is if it's giving you a hell of a time, it's better to hit it with the pb and let it sit, rather than do what we did and fight something that's been on for the last 6 YEARS....

Regardless, PB'ed the shit out of it, and used the striped socket 14 mm and that bitch came right out. Below is the result of our work.

Sooooo, we started bolting everything in, and discovered a bit of an issue with the banjo bolt.

I'm not gonna lie, I just discovered what a banjo bolt is hahahaha......I'm man enough to admit that . For those clueless like myself, this is basically a hollowed bolt that is used route oil/coolant to the turbo. The smaller hole on top of the turbo is for the oil, and the larger holes on the front and rear are for the coolant. Issue is the stock k04 bolt didn't fit.....apparently atp makes a special "low profile" bolt (Banjo Bolt for Low Profile oil inlet - GT BB Turbos : atpturbo.com), many thanks to @Eighty8 for providing the link btw, but without this, the turbo would literally starve for oil, and eventually fuse itself together.

We tried buying a smaller bolt, which @Lakespeed6 (many thanks for the ride, tip on which hole was for the oil and coolant, and most importantly motivation hahaha) manually tried drilling it out, but the thread pattern wouldn't work. Basically until I got the bolt, we couldn't move forward, so that ceased any sort of possibility of the turbo going in for the meet. My bad fellas lol....

I let @Block8head know the bolt didn't fit, so he ransacked his garage and found the bolt below. Notice the threads on the larger numbers 9, and the other numbers 12. Also has the slight indentation like the one from atp. Mainly, the finer thread is what we needed.

So the 6 is temp out of commission, and now I have to drive my gfs to work for Monday. How much more interesting would it make things if her car was out of commission as well?

I'm driving home and the muther fucking tranmission randomly starts slipping, and though I'm crusing at 65, the speedo says something very different rotflmmfao ....see below LOL

Pulled over, tried putting her in park, "crunch grind crunch"......fail. Tried putting her back in drive, and ending up rolling back on a damn hill into traffic.....epic fail. Tranny is officially trash. Asked @atvfreek about it and he concurred there's usually some sort of warning or sound or gear slip or sumthing before it's gone, but nope. Just died suddenly. Wtmf....

So I'm fucking panicking to figure how the hell I'm gonna get the car together on my day off Tues, and be ready for work by Wed. Luckily my man @darkcherry was able to get my gf to work @ 8:30 am, get me to see Ben and pick up the new Banjo, AND start getting shit installed.....honestly I couldn't express how big a look that was, and I will never forget it. Not to mention @Ihatefwd was going to drive me to the airport at fucking 2 am for a rental......Nator NE FTMFW in the clutch

Ok so Tues John and I are wrenching on this thing like no tomorrow....literally from the time I dropped the gf to when she was out around 1 pm. Managed to connect the lines and line up the mani, but wtf now? It won't sit straight?

Apparently when we put the turbo on, we removed the motor mount, which by default put the block at an angle, so when we tightened down the oil return it was crooked, so it wouldn't play ball. Fought with it for a while, and eventually John left and I got some damn sleep until Rick's downstairs saying let's finish it up lol....Regardless him and @BigJimMs3 come by and we try to bolt her up. No progress is made, but I managed to drop 2 nuts in the engine bay. Fuck.

I recover one, but the other never falls out. It bothers me, but I figure wtf probably fell on something in the engine and I just didn't hear it fall.
@dexter_5000 comes out first thing this morning and we decide to take the mani off, and try to bend the oil feed to get it to sit correctly. I mention the nut I dropped, and that I might have dropped it on the exit side of the turbo, and he immediately says take it off, saving the time being safe isn't worth potentially destroying the turbo if it is there.....

Lucky thing, I unbolt it and twist it to the right, and would you know the FUCKING NUT FELL OUT!!!!!!!

WWWWWWWWWWWTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF FFF!!!

I was ready to bolt this bitch up, and would've had a fat ass nut sitting ready to destroy the fucking compressor......crysis averted, but holy shit. John comes by and we crank and get this bitch bolted in. Literally takes maybe an hr or so, including parts running.

Notice the glove on said turbo to avoid any further scares hahaha

Word of advice if you're having any fitment issues with the coolant feed, check the fitment of the turbo before you start moving the coolant hoses. I was about to move them out the bracket, but once I repositioned it I had plenty of space, as the pictures show. I did remove the black bracket @jrlms6 was hitting on by the inlet, and tightend down the two wires using the mount connected to the bracket and the bolts that were holding it in

This brings us to today. Thursday I mean.

Plan is to have baystate muffler fab me a reducer for the intake I have now so it will fit until I can buy a new one. Don't know when that will be since I still have to take care of previous tranny issues....

Also will have a dump tube fabbed exiting back into the dp. Figure I might as well replace the worm gears while I'm at, can't start skimping now. Many thanks to @Ihatefwd for running me around to pick this shit up and @slowms3 for picking up the gf btw.

Installing the 3 bar map sensor as well, bolt everything back up and possibly get it fired up finally.

I'm no expert on this shit, nor do I claim to be, so I'm not totally sure how to setup the ebcs or the map sensor to be honest. I'm guessing like below since there's no other tube that would fit the nipple on the inlet. I'm obviously going to do some more homework to know exactly how/where to install, but that's currently where we stand. Any and all tips/tricks are welcome/appreciated. Updates to come very soon.

Fuck.....been sitting here for the last 2.5 hrs trying to figure how to hookup the wastegate. I keep seeing diagrams like the one below, but there's no pressure fitting on the turbo, so I'm honestly not sure wtf to hook this thing up to. At this point, I'm debating just installing the wastegate alone with no ebcs, but I still have no idea how I'm setting these lines up. @Block8head @atvfreek @superskaterxes Any guidance here?

you have to add a fitting into the silicon hose off the turbo outlet.
it comes with the ATP kit

The atp turbos don't have a fitting on the turbo. So most people use a quick tap on the silicone part coming off the turbo to the hot pipe. Realistically all you need is any boost source though. So you can just splice at the bpv if needed
