RIP K04, Hello GTX3071r

Ok, as some of you may know I completely destroyed my K04 due to negligent tool accountability (Still dont know how the fuck). Here's the link to my shredded K04 Shredded K04
I'm kind of glad it happened because now I have the perfect reason to go BT.

So talked to Allan @EdgeAutosport.com; and ran through my list of questions and parts. Monday I will be ordering the following;

-GTX 3071r EWG on the hotside housing with 14psi spring
-couple studs to replace mani ones + nuts
-HTP 3.5" intake(3.5-4" reducer) with battery tray
-Exhaust mani gasket
-Manifold turbo gasket
-Stratified Guardian Angel
-TR8 intercooler
-3 bar map sensor + harness
-Grimmspeed 3 port ECBS

Already have
-Racebuilt manifold
-AT Internals
-Cobb AP
-Ebay DP
-CX kit (swapping cores as stated above)
-Stock catback resonator + muffler delete
-Dual port BPV

Cant fucking wait, I should be up, running and hopefully tuned by september for that big mazda meet in Jacksonville. Pics coming VERY SOON!

Stock internals for now. First goal is 320WHP, then moving on from there. Do have in the plans for injector seals, and rods at the minimum. I dont plan on reaching for crazy amount of power, for now I'll be happy in the mid 300's. We all know its addicting to make more but the speed is not my daily driver so I think it'll be fine.

Good shit. Just curious if you only looking to reach 320whp, why go with such a big turbo? you could've easily achieved that with something smaller. At any rate, I'm interested to see how your build turns out. Good luck dude and keep us posted

Well, I really want an external WG set up so the setup Edge has is perfect and allows me to keep my manifold and existing mods. Other than that, I said fuck it! If I'm doing this, Im doing it big the first time so I dont have to do it again later if I wanted more pwr.

We can easily get you quite a bit more out of that. I just hit 386 today on my 3076, it's my daily, I got 318 on @leeroys38; k04. 320 is pretty low for the amount of money your are about to drop on that setup.

This is why im doing it. I keep reading about IWG and boost creep and all that shyt, I'm trying to do it right the first time. Not to mention that dump pipe. Lord knows the major stiff when that thing starts dumping!

haha, I was worried about the creep too. I ported the WG, and haven't had any creep at all. But once I get a little more cash I am upgrading to the mani and EWG setup. Ugggh! this car is so expensive.

You'll love the GTX. 320 will be no problem whatsoever; I'm on the same turbo and manifold; at 20psi on shitty gas and OTS timing I'm at 330/330.

Keep in mind, a flat 320 across the rpms could be as much as a 30-50 whp gain in the top end where the K04 falls on its face. Peak numbers aren't everything. Part of me always regrets selling my 3071 because it was the perfect DD turbo, very responsive and capable of sick power ... now I have to make a dedicated effort to downshift and get around people -_- (1stworldproblems...)

^^^I agree completely. I'm actually burning less gas on the highway, because of no more instaspool, but at the same time I get into boost without downshifting as soon as I touch the gas; perfect highway cruising turbo.

I hit 338 on the K04, been my daily on that tune for at least 12k miles. Checked for shaft play a few weeks back, and it's solid. I'll swap you my K04 for the GTX3071r

With peak torque of 350-370 and that torque staying above 300ft lbs to redline you will have a very nice powerband that is safe on stock internals and you will have peak hp of 370+ up top. If you have good fuel in your area this can be achieved on pump fuel.

Yea that sounds like the route I would like to take. This car isn't my daily (got a 95 corolla 1.8 stick) but I still dont want to break it beyond repair. Like a few guys said, I rather have a strong power-band and keep puling all thru redline than peak. After all it's a FWD and I want to keep it fun to drive and manageable not be a burn out wonder.

Also the gas down in Valdosta is pretty good as long as I get shell. I even have a E station like 2 miles away which is a possible route I might take down the road. Not very familiar with it, so I'm sticking to pump for now.

Just to keep this updated, got a few parts. JBR 3.5" intake, Grimspeed ECBS, Battery Tray, and more. According to Fed EX and UPS I should be getting the GTX and the rest of the parts. Pictures are cooming soon!!!

Finally took some time to take some pics. Should be getting the GTX3071 tomorrow and if so install will be Wed.

So far I got;

-Grimspeed 3 port
-Guardian Angel and Auto tech Internals (2nd set since I fucked my HPFP by using an old socket)
-3 Bar Map sensor and harness (Sensor was broke in the package, quick call to @EdgeAutosport.com; and they are sending me a new one). Big thanks to JP and Allan
-JBR Bypass hose and Z1 Motorsports 5/16" Hose for coolant lines
-Mani-Head Gasket + Studs and nuts to replace old ones
-T bolt clamps from silicone intakes and boost tubes to elongate short snout on 3071
-HTP 3.5" intake and battery tray + 51R-2 battery from advanced

Not for now, I'm going to see how far I can take the stock plugs and then upgrade. TIG when I do Injector seals and IM porting.

I have a similar set up. just be ready for the return oil line, check around for any shop who can make a custom line for you, just in case...
