It's turn for the Mexican't MS3

Sup everyone,
Well since it's been a tradition to post and document all the BT process since the time you decide to make the big step then I guess it's my turn...

I just came back from visiting the Nator TX and all the DFW Mazdas group and assisting to the Texas Statewide Mazda Meet in Dallas TX. Had a great time, it was definitely a long drive but it worth it.

I decided to get a BT kit since like 2 months ago when my buddy @broncojd78 told me about a FS thread for a ATP GTX3076R kit. So... I checked for all the shipping costs (including import taxes) and it was definitely expensive so instead of paying that I decided to go and pick it up myself. That's how everything started.


So... here's pretty much what I got:

I didn't realized how HUGE is the turbo... here's a Tecate beer can for reference:





Also ordered some other stuff:

- Denso ITV24s... yeah I already have them, but it's almost time to get some new ones.


- CP-E big MAF intake kit (special thanks to @broncojd78 and @spnkr21 :


- CP-E big turbo inlet pipe ( thanks to @Zbrit00x )


- OEM Mazda Spin-on oil filter conversion kit with a Royal Purple oil filter:


- COBB EBCS


- PTP / hpfpupgrade seals & studs (thanks again @broncojd78 )




Well, that's it for the moment. I'm planning to add an exhaust mani, water meth injection system and trying to decide on which engine internals whould I get... any suggestions?

Of course PERM tune will be also part of this build.

Should I leave the PTP PCV fix pill? Or do I have to removed due to the bigger turbo?

How the hell was I supposed to install the CP-E big MAF intake without hitting the bpv!!???


Problem solved... added a PVC plastic coupler that I found at a hardware store...

Sarted the engine, no issues, had a CEL code at the first crank for system lean. cleared and it's gone for good! Did 3 MAF Cal and sent them right away to @djousteisn !!

My suggestion is to port the IWG of the turbo and set the preload before installing it on the car

Already planning on the IWG porting, but still not sure about the preload thing. is there any thread with a how-to?

It's easy to do. Even when it's on the car it's not too bad, just need a friend. I've done it twice and maybe soon a third. Just mark the bolts on the turbo before you take apart. That will help to get it exactly where it is now. If at all, maybe very little preload. Congrats on the build, good luck!

Does anyone know if the Forge Wastegate actuator will also help? A friend has one fore sale it's brand new and asking like 100 bucks for it... but haven't really found any BT build with it.

Thats for a boost source for the boost controller. It taps through the silicone part of the hot pipe right off the turbo.

Edit: be careful when installing that cause you gotta make sure you put it in a place that won't interfere with clamps/turbo/whatever...

there's no plug on the turbo for that? seems like that would be less likely to fail than tapping the silicone.

No plug on the ATP turbos. There is a spot where you can drill/tap for one though. I used the silicon tap on mine and so far haven't had any problems...

if i were to drop the money on a big turbo
and the big turbo did not have a built in tap
and it came with a tap for silicone
i THINK i would be inclined to tap the turbo housing itself.

I didn't feel like taking the turbo apart when I did mine (read lazy)... My turbo showed up on a tuesday and I installed it the following saturday. I also didn't port my iwg, and I really wish I had done that. But like I said, no problems with the silicon tap for the last 21k miles since the turbo has been on there so I'm not really worried about it...

The ATP quick tap works fine. I'm using it, along with countless others problem free.

@ganque, start with a 1/4" drill bit to drill the silicone as a starting point. I initially started way smaller on mine, and couldn't get the piece through, and it was a big waste of time, lol. I drilled another dude's for a gtx76 and same APT quick tap, and the 1/4" was a good starting point... it's definitely NOT too big, and if anything, you may have to ossicalte the drill around a little to get that fitting to just barely jam through.

Also make sure you put it somewhere that you can hold the base inside with something while you tighten it on. Then nut on outside, then retainer clip on groove to keep nut from backing out.

I'm interested in seeing how the Cobb ebcs works. I didn't even know they had one!

i think he intends to port the IWG, so it will already be apart. i actually thought it went to the IWG actuator, based on the way the K04 looks. but i don't have teh smartz.

So. According to COBB there's no need to apply that tap on the turbo hose.

Looks like the compressor housing is already tapped for you, and connected to the wastegate actuator. That saves some hassle

Hey I'm no BT IWG expert... that's what it looks like in the pic on the left. I just noticed it's capped off in the diagram on the right... I'd ask someone else. My bt is EWG.

I know Doug, no worries, I think the COBB one works differently from the Grinspeed or the Manual BCs
