Sk1nny's goin BNR S3 EWG

Holy cow. So I was gonna put a precision 5857 in my car, sold that. Then it was gonna be a gt2871r, then sold that. Now I finally have a turbo I'm going to be putting in the ol Speed6. I am shooting for 400awhp/400awtq. Reverse taper to 25-26psi. Steep order for a S3 on a speed6 I know. Figured my PNP'd head and an ewg setup will help me get there, and make little kids cry when I drive by. Picked up the bnr used, but could not pass the deal up. Yes, I picked up an EMUSA 38mm ewg. I have heard great things about these and did not want to spend $250+ on a tial. Just waiting on my cooland line to show up in the mail, then it's time to put this baby in. Oh, and btw, I'm having my wastegate flange welded onto my stock exhaust manifold from a local machine shop. Here are a couple of pix. I will keep you all updated

About the k04 11 sec pass I've been going for forever!!! I still believe it can be done. I just don't go to the track enough, and when I do, weather does not cooperate. So, someone else can rock 11s on a stock k04; I'm done.

Are you welding the flapper shut?

I doubt you will actually make a lot more power versus IWG. Most of the exhaust will be going through the turbine to make it to 26psi anyways. Less backpressure is never a bad thing.

The bottom end also doesn't care what you use to control boost - just how much of it there is.

The screamer pipe will sound sweet though

I figured most of the exhaust would be going through the turbine, but figured what the hell. I'm still confident ewg vs iwg on this guy will make more power. Even 10 extra whp is good in my books. I've heard that with iwg, there is more pressure running through exhaust, meaning more pressure on motor. Or something like that, I found it on the subie forums.

IWGs do tend to create more back-pressure in the exhaust by nature. They cause turbulence in the exhaust by dumping exhaust directly after the turbine wheel. You may see very small gains, but there's really no downside to going EWG, besides the added cost.

Remember drive train losses are greater on the speed6 with it's AWD, so beware your rods.

Otherwise, interesting to see the EWG on the stock exmani, and where the numbers land. It'll be a fun trip no matter what

Boost should also be easier to control at higher boost with the EWG.

Spent the last few evenings pulling old turbo out and in with the bean. Got the manifold wg flange welded on yesterday and finished up the car moments ago. Loaded a base map with 11* timing and on spring pressure only. Everything is dead on and that ewg with the screamer pipe put the biggest grin in my face ever!! Got out of the car smiling and looked down at my hands to see them shaking lol. I will get some logs tonight and start some tuning and get some pix up for you guys.

Car does not spool like the lil k04 did. But she hits hard and keeps pullin till you let off the skinny pedal

No meth, I will keep it easy and down the road, go for some 5th port injection. At 24 psi, I had idc's at almost 110%. I had to back it down to 21.5psi, but have not seen how that goes yet.

Got my first share of logs tonight that did not include, idc's in the 105 range lol. 20psi, 12.0 afr, max timing 13.* I will get it down to an e30 mix and try to get more boost/timing. Sat at the track should be mid 90's, so I'm not expecting too much. We will see. I will try to get some more tuning done tonight/tomorrow and get some vd results to compare.
Oh yeah, and its hell of hot here. 100+ degree bats with a fmic

Lookin good bro. Clean up that MAF curve a tad. Boost curve looks great but thought you wanted a reversed boost taper?

Yeah I need to clean it up a lil, I will be tapering up to 23psi for now, as long as my idcs don't get too high. Logging/tuning tonight. Racing tomorrow morning lol.

Ran 20psi so did not expect a whole lot. It was mid 90s too. Did 3 passes, best of which was 12.8 @ 109 with a bad 60ft. I revved out to 6.5k or so, If I would have shifted @ 6k, I would have trapped at least 110. My power dies down up top because lack of boost and timing

That was on about an e35 mix. Temps here have been 105+ lately. E-85 makes a huge difference on timing

reverse taper to 23 pounds feels insane!!! Too bad my injectors cant keep up. IDC's 109 and sputtering up top. Guess it'll be 21psi tomorrow

can you lower the e85 mix while keeping knock protection? won't that help with IDCs a bit? obviously spraying meth would probably be the better option either way

I've dropped to an e30 mix. Going any less, the benefits aren't quite there
