Default So, I guess I'm doing another build....

I've had some "issues" with my current engine build. I won't rehash them again, here. Just discuss going forward. Hadn't decided on shop yet, there are a couple of Texas area shops that have been suggested. I do some of my own work, but, engine build is just out of my league.

The first time, I didn't really know shit. I'm no expert now by no means, but, I hope I have learned enough to not make as many mistakes.

Just trying to decide for sure what to upgrade and what to leave as is. I've spent way too fucking much money on this damn car as it is. But, I might as well put in the rest that will be necessary to do it right.

Presumably, my CP Pistons, Pauter Rods are good and can be reused. Though one shop I have talked with said that on his own MS3 he actually is swapping Pauter for Eagle. He says the Eagle are a lot lighter and he doesn't really like Pouter. The Pauter's could maybe be resold? Anybody have any opinions on this?

I have a Steedspeed manifold. This one is rather annoying as, at the moment I bought mine, it seemed like everyone was saying Steedspeed is da shit. Now everybody says they are just shit. I'm not an engineer and so I was just going by what I read on forums.

Now I understand that CPE manifolds are da shit. But, problem is, the version of the Steedspeed I got is swept backwards, placing the turbo closer to the firewall than stock. And I have a custom downpipe and turbo inlet pipe to match. If I went with the CPE, I'd have to get that all replaced or modified. So, at least at the moment, I'm thinking to just keep the Steedspeed.

I went ahead and ordered the Corksport cams. The website currently says next shipment available July 10. I think if I wind up not using them, I could resell them pretty easy, it looks like they are in demand. But, the idea of having a wider power band is certainly appealing, more than more raw power actually. Even if the Steedspeed will place some upper limits on power, if the cams provide a wider power band, then cool. No idea on doing head porting too. I don't know how much this will cost.

For fueling, right now, I'm sticking with my PTP Stage II fuel pump. I know PTP's name is shit. I got my stage I back when they were a vendor here and it has worked well for me. I then upgraded it to a Stage 2 when he released those. He claims it is good to about 500 WHP So, presumably something like 450 or so AWD WHP. So, that is basically what I'm thinking of for my goal, about 450 AWD WHP.

For the turbo, I've currently got a GT3071. I'm planning on having it rebuilt by Forced Performance and turning it into an HTA 3076.

I know I need to upgrade the intercooler. I've got a CPE. In fact, I participated in some threads about FMIC options a year or more ago, but haven't done anything yet. Basically, I know that I'll just have to get a core and pipe it in, with possibly one of the piping kits on the market. I just haven't done it yet. I think I will plan on doing this part myself.

I guess one question I've got is... yeah, I know that every install runs into issues and needs misc parts here and there. But, pallpark, assuming that the engine isn't too bad off as is, maybe needs new rings and bearings, what is a reasonable price for the labor portion? That is, pull the engine, rebuild it right, reinstall and tune. What seems reasonable? Ballpark price the headwork separate, to best utilize the Corksport cams?

Kozmic quotes $2,900 for a stage 1 short block, linky, I would plan at least 1.5 times that, so let's say $4,500.

Add a VVT actuator while you're at it.

If the budget allows definitely port the head. It always helps and the only time it make sense to do it is when the motor is apart anyway.

The steedspeed has been found to be restrictive, I would plan on using it with an eye towards upgrading it later. It's going to limit your top end power and reduce the amount of timing you will be able to run.

I think I'll call BS on that fuel pump.

What's up with those PTP pumps? I've rarely ever heard of people running the stage 2 pump and he supposedly came out with a pump that work on full e.

And OP I think you're fine to stick with you pauter rods, they have a great rep no reason to switch. The SS mani should be able to get you to 450, yes it would be good to change but if that requires a whole new downpipe and intake I'm not sure if that's worth it. PS fuck yeah HTA

As far as the pump, I of course know that PTP's name is shit these days. And, to the person that said he was calling BS, I assume you were doubtful it could support the 500 WHP? Perhaps. This is what I can say. When I had the engine built the first time, it was dyno'd on a Mustang at 360 WHP, and the turner said the pump wasn't close to being taxed, there was lots more fuel available. So, I don't honestly know where it will top out at. We'll see I guess.

I would plan on going 5th/6th port or meth if you're trying to hit 450 to 500 HP. I can't think of anyone that has done that on a MS6 without some sort of extra fueling. The PTP pump might be great but you're still going to be limited by the injectors.

I wouldn't want to start tuning, find out you can only get to 400 and then have to tune again with whatever new fueling you pick.

You will definitely need auxiliary fueling, I was hitting 102 IDC at redline on my BNR boost creeping to 26 psi in 40* weather, VD was showing only about 350 whp.

Yup, plan on more injectors or meth for 450-500. 5th port would get you there, but if you consider 6th port, then you may want to go ahead and spend the extra for a JMF & port injection- the extra cost is worth it at that point.

It was easy for john to claim "good for 500" when the injectors won't flow enough to do more than 425ish anyway.

At this point, I guess I'm going to stick with the Steedspeed, and skip aux fueling and lower the HP goal to 400 WHP. With (hopefully) a wide power band with the Corksport cams, that should be a pretty fun ride.

Whatever about ptp being shit for fuel pumps. Those who prefer to think for themselves know they're good. Plenty of people have run them for copious amounts of miles.

I can't comment on reliability, but it's the claims that are made.

Like earlier in this thread.

The complaint, at least in this thread so far, wasn't really the pump itself, just the claim that it could support 450-500 WHP with stock injectors. Which is actually a valid complaint.
