Default SweBuild [SP63 Engine GTX3076 EWG]

Hi guys!
It's been a long wait but i can finally make my own big turbo thread! And what an asskicker of a kit i will be installing!!
If i had known that it would take cpe almost 2 years to complete the MS6 Atmosphere kit and ship it out i would have gone a different route... But I hung in there and it has finally arrived!
For now i will stay stock block but in the future i'm aiming at a forged block, maby from the god of disi building (Freek). @Lex; will handle the tuning! I will use oem BSC coupled with Boost Dial to control boost.

I will keep the TMIC and see how it performs. I think a meth kit will help alot to bring bats down to acceptable level. A custom FMIC might be on my list later on.

For those of you that don't know what the CP-E Atmosphere Turbo Kit includes; Here's a list:
  • Tial V-Band Turbo (GTX3076 .82AR was my choice)
  • Tial MVR 1 Bar Wastegate with hardware
  • CP-E V-Band Manifold
  • Speed6 DownScream Downpipe (catless)
  • CP-E XcelXL Intake (3,25" ID MAF) + Nviscid Big Turbo TIP (3" ID)
  • 2,5" and 2,25-2,5" couplers for turbo->intercooler (i will not use these)
  • CNC Lathed Oil Feeder Block-Side Adapter
  • Custom CNC -8 Sump Female Block Oil Drain Flange
  • CP-E -8AN Male Turbo Oil Drain Flange
  • Oil Feed Turbo-Side Restictor Fitting
  • Tial 300+355 V-Band Clamps
  • Hose Clamps
  • 16" Steel braided -6AN Coolant line Banjo Hose End
  • 20" Steel braided -8AN Coolant line -8AN Straight Hose End
  • 24" Steel braided -4AN Oil feed line /w two -4AN 90* Hose Ends
  • 3.75" Black Push-Lock -8AN Oil return line /w two 45* Hose Ends
  • -8AN Male Banjo Fitting
  • -8AN to -8 Sump Adapter Fitting
  • .71" OD Copper crush washer
  • .80" OD Copper crush washers
  • O2 Bung Cap
  • Oil Drain Gaskets
  • 2.75" T-Bolt Clamps
  • M8-1.25x20mm SHCS Bolts

Some pornpics:

GTX3076 & CPE Mani

DownScream Downpipe

K04 is out!

This is where i'm at right now! I need to remove the alternator to get to the oil feed bolt and remove the whole thing. It's replaced completely with a new line and fittings

Here's the new oil feed

Much more pics to come when the parts are installed

Turbo, manifold, downpipe, wastegate and intake is installed!

I just want to make sure that the wastegate is properly setup, so i need some feedback on what ports to use and what should be connected to them!
I have the Boost Dial connected to the lower port on the wastegate, is this the correct way? I've read/seen that some have 2 hoses connected to the EWG. And some even leave the top port vented

This is the diagram i'm following and it's all connected like this. All i need to know is what ports should be used on the EWG

Lastly, how hard can we drive without needing watercooling on the EWG?
More installpics coming when this is sorted

I looked into this a bit for my build. From what I've seen people only really water cool it if the wastegate is sitting very close to or is hidden under the mani tubing. With the Cp-e mani I think it sits far away enough to not need water cooling.

I'm so jealous!!!!. That oil return return is what I am looking for. Too bad CPe decided not to sell components separately. GL with the build.

The way you have it setup is correct. Make sure there are no other lower air ports open on the wastegate.

I did hook the ewg/bcs up the right way the first time so no drama there Thanks for the reassurance lex!
Everything is installed and the car has been driven about 600km. I still have the bad boostleak that i had before i even installed this kit. So air is leaking somewhere, injector seals maby? Cracked intake mani? Suggestions? Im trying to get an apointment to get a real leaktest done, prefeably with smoke so i can see where it's escaping.

Now, time for all the juicy pics from the install I have alot more so if there's something you would like to see from a better angle just say the word

Turbine side! Tial housing is as pretty as it gets =)

CP-E EWG Mani is what everyone needs

3,25" MAF + 3" TIP

Tial EWG kit

Best looking downpipe i've seen

Oil return, block side

Turbo and mani are being married, it was beautiful!

Time to install

Almost everything is out!

I dropped everything in at the same time

Porn? =)

Feed and return

Downpipe is in!

And EWG connected, first to the downpipe and then to the mani. You need a friend to lift/twist/push the downpipe to get the perfect alignment

Heater hose extended

Intake is in!
Code Monkey and ItsNox like this.

Logged 4th gear and i'm pretty happy with the result, 300awhp on spring pressure Boost is usually around 20-22 psi to redline! 20 psi at ~4k rpm is pretty neat considering it's delayed in the tune

Gotta love that manifold! =)

300awhp with 8* timing... it's just the beginning Ran 20* with k04

Nothing's gonna blow here but my girlfriend

Received revision 1.1 today from alex, and here are the results:

Same boost (spring pressure lol), timing increased to 13.5 at redline, load target is 2.4, flows 380-400 g/s at 6k+ rpm

Looks great but there is no way you are running 36 psi of boost?

Something has to be wrong with that graph. If you're running 36psi of boost, you should be at something at or above 500awhp, not 331...

God kvall!
How is it going there with the build?
Just a quick tip - I am sure you didn't forget to put tial valve seat in when installing, didn't you? Because your boost buildup seems to be quite late, but that could be just my false opinion.
Ha det!

Long time no see...

Ran into some issues with the coolant return hose, it touched the mani so it started leaking at 2 places (CPE should include a 60 degree AN fitting instead of a stright one) which forced me to uninstall the whole kit to replace the hose/fitting and clock the coldside to a better angle. This took alot of time since the car was 155 miles away from where i live.

Where the fitting/hose touched the mani melting the inside of the hose, spewing coolant all over the chra

New fitting, much better!

New fitting and hose, chra cleaned up and coldside clocked

Next project was to install the newly acquired FMIC kit from HDI in australia. It's a complete kit with relocation brackets for washer bottle and such.

Mockup

Passenger side

Core installed behind crashbar

Washer bottle and PS cooler relocated. Wires and hose extended

Hotpipe installed! This kit comes with special clamps that holds the two pieces together. There are also two o-rings to make it seal properly

Coldside with BPV. Very hard to install at first but after a few adjustments it came in rather easy. BPV connection on ic pipe was too long so had to cut it down a bit

All done!!

Another kit I installed during the taredown of the turbokit was the HTP Battery Relocation kit. I chose the biggest cable and also Circuit Breaker

Battery terminal; GA was relocated to the left side after this pic was taken

So after all this work I started logging today for the first time in 6 months! Pulled really nice all the way to 5-6k rpm where I encountered load cut because boost reached 22.5 psi, 400 g/s flow and 2.7 load.
BATs with tmic was usually 105F at 6k rpm, now it's down to 64!! That's a pretty good improvement =) Ambient temp was about 46
So tuning should start again pretty soon, just need the load cut gone to actually be able to do a full WOT log.

These are my load cut logs, numbers should be taken with a grain of salt. Need to verify them with a couple of clean wots. Same tune landed me at 330awhp last year before I installed the fmic (VD is in post #13 )

So I got a new tune flashed this weekend with increased timing from 4500 rpm and up. Also afr and load targets were adjusted. One thing that may affect VD numbers is that my tires are almost bald (1-2mm thread left). New tires will arrive this week. Will log again after that and see how the numbers are affected.
Anyhow, my reaction when loading VD was hoooly shiet!
23 psi, 16* timing at 6k rpm. Remember, these are awd numbers...

What gasoline are you using? You said you had 20 degrees with K04 and now you are having 16 degrees with GTX30R, I do not see any meth in your pictures, so looks like your fuel does really hold fine!

Took a look at by K04 tune and it was 19* at 6500 rpm and 2.0 load.
Timing on current tune is about 2* lower than K04 numbers:

Code:
RPM	5000	5500	6000	6500
K04	15,6	15,6	17,5	18,9
GTX3076	11,1	13,1	15	17,1
I don't have any meth kit yet but i plan on getting one after I build the block, which will happen sometime this fall. I have no idea how close to maxed out my injectors are, but i'm not getting any fuel cuts.
I have a few options for the build:
* SP63 long block with ported head
* Freektune build with used long block or a completely new one + ported (long waittime)
* David Hastie build from the UK, he has built about 9 disi engines, none of them are over 450whp though, but i believe it would hold fine since the same components would be used no matter who builds it.

Question, how much power gain are people seeing with SP63 Stage 2 cams? SP63 says it's not needed unless you go for 600-800whp. My plan is to max out my turbokit which would be somewhere around 450-520awhp (it's an extremely efficient setup). And if S2 cams would net a 20whp gain then i would absolutely go for that

Finally got the SPC Ball Joints installed!

So now I atleast have some camber! Hated that mazda made it none-adjustable and with positive angle.
My guess is I now have about -1.5, need to get it aligned soon!

Also flashed a new map with some small adjustments to AFR at around 4k rpm, was a bit lean there. Think spool will be improved at 3k rpm too.
Will probably not see any performance gain from now on. I'm pretty much maxed out on the stock fueling and rods. Torque is about 360awtq which is 405whp for you FWD guys.

Next up is taking logs and send to @Lex; and hoping the SPC stuff holds up! =)

Hello there neighbor!

I find that post of yours very interesting. Have you actually logged your ignition advance during a pull? 19 degrees at 6500 rpm sounds really high. Are you sure you are hitting 2.0 load there? Would you mind sharing the whole timing table for your K04 setup just to compare to mine?

Thanks!

Timing is always logged when taking wot logs And yeah, I've seen 19+ at redline. I can upload a log after work.
Load is very much dependent on your maf cal and other variables, but I think I saw about 2.4 at 3 - 3.5k rpm and then slowly decreasing to ~ 2 at redline.

Will hopefully be able to take more logs today so I can install the 4" intake on next revision

Yeah, do not forget the magic formula: Load = MAF_Readings * 38.9 / RPM

So basically 2.0 at 7K is equal to 360g/s of metered air, which is the airflow of maxxed out GTX2867 or for GT3071.
2.0 at 6500 equals to 334g/s at that point, which is still too high for K04, it usually could get to 320g/s only when it/s -15/-20 celsius outside.

I suppose you had 2.0 load at 6000 only, which equals to 308g/s. Then the load curve is falling hiperbolically, as the airflow is amxxed out and couldn't be improved either with K04.

Attached a K04 log where I had 19.5 timing at 6200 rpm (14-01-03 #11 WOT4)
Here's the K04 timing from 4000-6500 rpm

Did a 4th gear pull today with the new map with adjusted fueling at 4k rpm to stabilize AFR a bit (WOT - 2015-08-04 140650)
This is with the NEW tires which should render a more accurate power curve in VD.
Encountered quite a bit of KR this time, that's why my AFRs go rich after 5100 rpm

Testfitting the new Freektune 4" intake and it's awesome! SP63 engine will arrive in a few weeks so it's time to get serious

Is this intake supported in any way near the MAF or filter, or does it just wobble around?

There are no brackets or anything like that. only thing it rests on a little is the heater hose near the turbo, mine is extended. We'll see next year if it is solid enough. Not a problem for me though, I would just make a bracket with some rubber bushings if needed.

Do not forget putting some cover or shield between a/c fan and your air filter.
We discovered very rough idle when A/C fan started spinning. It really pushed air and screwed MAF readings a lot, and on 4inch even 900idle rpm goes somewhere around 0.96 volts, so after we did a small test with a sheet of paper, putting it between a/c fan and air filter, and idle became steady as fuck - so we realized how sensitive our MAF sensor is!96553.jpg

Thanks for the heads up! I'll probably make a custom shield at work when the ime comes. Gotta install a new engine first

So! I picked up this beauty a few days ago! SP63 built longblock
