i believe me (check my build thread) and SSinstaller are one of the only guys on 35r's.

me untuned im boosting 16psi right at 4300rpms. SSinstaller is hitting 20+psi by i think it was 3500rpms or so. if your goal is mid 400's a 35r w/ .82ar is a hefty turbo and will be pretty laggy on lower boost settings, and for daily use like through town it think it will be almost useless.

if your plan is for a 35r go with a .63ar and you would probably be really happy with it, a 3076 is probably the perfect turbo for this car, whether it's track or daily use. which is what i originally was going to purchase but, when my buddy called an said he had a 35r with only 700 miles on it i jumped on it for the price. i think jwilkins has proven the 3076 on this car is fuckin tits when it comes to having a dialed tune and a proper set up.

Ummmm....raises hand slowly...Rocken' a 35r on my build. I wouldn't use anything less, and the .82 might be on the big side to have fun on the street. I run the .63 and can spool 24psi by 4200 easy, which gives the car a solid 2600 rpm of power band.....
smokeless likes this.

35r with .63ar would be a great turbo with big power potential. the spool time between the 35r w/ .63ar and a 3076 w/ .82ar honestly wont be MUCH different, a few hundred RPMS.

it comes down to what you want, i honestly think a a 3071/76 w/ .82ar would be the most fun daily driven turbo on this car. but im the one that lives by the motto bigger is better, i'd vote 35r.

(my specific thoughts of this post) If you honestly think, a 35r is going to make u door to door with a 335i, your a joke. That car is designed completely different from this plate form. 2twinscroll little turbos, 3.0l 6yl DI it can make 18psi at 2200rpm or earlier lol. Your hilarious. To run that car, a 3076 or 3071 would be your best bet. A 35r if you go .63A/R could benefit in added topend air flow. Either way, he's still going to pull off a bit quicker then you, BUT you defiently have a potential to throw a rope and wheel his ass in before 100mph if you can drive the appropiate setup. Goodluck. Bet know, if you go 35r, expect to either not have enough momentum to catch up. Or Him pulling nearly 2 cars, and you walking him at 120+ which is pretty late and lame.

the bottom line is unless your gonna build a entire block and run over 24 psi of boost which you cant do on a stock block 3076 will be a nice turbo to have

Well until a better fueling solution comes out, he's not gonna be able to use the full potential of the 35r. Also, with our shitty head design and the need to rev a little higher to make use of such a large turbo, he really has 3 road blocks...but hey, he can see how far he can go, heh.

I had a 3071.
It's not enough.
3076 can't be that much different.
Everyone that's been BT for any amount of time is stepping up to 35r or equivalent. Do it right and get the 35r.

Alright, Joel is making a little over 450 @ 26psi with his ATP 3076 (with shitty small hot side). He has no complaints about spool and his car runs like a raped ape. He only revs to 7k and hasn't hit fueling problems yet. A 35r will hit 450 on a few less pounds of boost...so if you ran 22, you'd prolly be at 450...with a smaller power band than Joel.

Not enough? Man, I find more and more that my goals are so much more different than everyone else's, haha. I like transient response and thick power band. I had a big turbo Talon with huge fuckin turbo and driving it was only fun at WOT above 4500rpm.

The 3071 was really that disappointing? 'Cause I've made up my mind 99.9% that I'm getting it.

No it wasn't disappointing. I ran it for 10k. But since I needed to pull the motor I am upgrading.

I have been all around this fuel system in this car....and at 24 psi on the 35r, the fuel system is just fine (I am with out meth currently), the fuel pressure has not been raised either, in fact I feel the hype over raising the pressure has been blown out of proportion, it is not the entire answer to big power.

The head is a legit block in power production. It will take mounds of work to get the head done right, and will take more money than I am willing to spend right now.

The 35r with the .63 back side is a blast to drive at any rpm, plenty of power under the curve.

i have to disagree on the raising fp doesn't make a deference, we were all done with my tune.
and dj asked if i did any thing with the fp scaling, anyway i said no, he did that and it made the biggest difference in power! tuning could provide just my .o2

Cool man!!

Can you quantify that result on a dyno?

I am really interested on the exact difference it makes. Jump on a dyno (I do not care which kind dyno), take a base line of where you are now, then remove the fuel pressure increases and see how much the power drops (of course at the same AFR's). I am sure that if it made that much difference in the seat of pants feel, it should be at least a 20 hp drop.

i live in may Barry, no dynos with in a 100 miles, but when i go ap i might dyno, so maybe i could work up a tune w/o fp added, then dyno both s/b tunes then dyno the ap...? might be a while shitty trip comming up

IMO the whole lag issue is blown out of proportion, nothing annoyed me more than looking down and seeing the K04 happily hitting 15psi at 20% throttle input. I like that the gt35 won't build more than 5~6psi unless I actually put my foot to the floor.
Damn, that's a lot of air! I pushed 369 g/s @ 6,170 rpms but that's at 21psi w/ my twin scroll 3076 + .78 hot side and ambient of 72F. I ran out of road before redline. I kinda regret not going twin scroll gt35r, but I haven't even tuned her yet and timing is stage 2 ots retarded. So, I can't judge her just yet, plus she already hauls ass. But is the gt35 gonna be more of a problem traction wise for you than a 3076? Or not really? Just something to consider as a DD, not sure how much difference it makes, and I'm sure it'll depend on what size hot side.

I couldn't agree more about the lag being blown out of proportion. That was what I thought when I drove skates 3076. I was like wtf are people talking about? Some lag, but not not much. Twin scroll is ridiculous... reminds me of K04 more than anything else. I'll know more when I hook my Perrin back up.

Good luck w/ decision. There are much shittier things to be deciding between, lol

Once you're tuned for the juice, throw a few sandwiches in the hatch, and get your ass to a dyno!!

I'm installing a new 4 axis CNC next week. Perhaps I could try doing some CNC port work to open the head up? Has anyone done porting with any success?

BTW, go 35R and hit it with a 100 shot!

I believe I have the highest flowing DISI head on earth. It was ported by a former NHRA funny car/top fuel engine builder and it was flow benched on a SAE corrected Superflow-SF1020.

Stock:
Int: 200cfm @ .500" @ 28" H2O
Exh: 165cfm @ .300" @ 28" H2O

Ported:
Int: 265cfm @ .500" @ 28" H2O
Exh: 200cfm @ .300" @ 28" H2O

The head does flow more at higher lifts, but on the OEM and ported versions the increase in air flow is minimal because the port is saturated.

It requires a slightly modded IM gasket due to the ports being larger, and the exhaust valves are 1mm oversize. The chamber has also been significantly reworked.

I rigged some hp numbers for it and from what I have seen on the net, they should be about right.

Stock:
Int: 466hp @ 21psi @ .500" Lift

Ported:
Int: 617hp @ 21psi @ .500" Lift

Note that the OEM cam is nowhere near .500" lift and the numbers for a DI engine will almost certainly be higher.

Well I did have my fun. I beat the shit out of it every time I drove it. I think I pushed a little too hard for that turbo though. Live and learn. I'll get 100k out of the next one. Does anyone else have 10k on a BT yet? That's 10k of wot pulls. I didn't DD this car.

Well I think the 3071-3076 is perfect turbo for this car. The atp turbos are fine, but t3 .63-82ar would be best. Regardless you have very responsive turbos that give you nice healthy jump of power 350-420 whp. For a fwd daily, that should be enough for most lol.

Some people want nothing but a highway roll race monster, then in that case yeah 35r should pull you pretty fuckin hard.

As darksun said, you got 335s and 135s making 400+, but shit..theres always someone faster..I dont have deep enough pockets to compete against modded out supras and vettes big turbo 400-600 whp evos lol. I think its the wrong platform to really try to make the ms3 into a insane fast monster. 300-400 whp fwd grocery getter should be plenty fast, and youll be faster than most, put some money into the suspension and nice rubber and go have fun on the track. but thats just my personal opinion.

The 35R is a great turbo for this motor... Just get the smaller turbine if your worried about DD spool, and swap up if it even becomes a bottleneck.. Even with my .82 AR turbine I can hit 15+psi in the low 3K range--and with this thing that's 300+ g/s...

IMO the whole lag issue is blown out of proportion, nothing annoyed me more than looking down and seeing the K04 happily hitting 15psi at 20% throttle input. I like that the gt35 won't build more than 5~6psi unless I actually put my foot to the floor.

people make it sound like if you get a gt35r you wont hit any boost until you ripping on a highway.. hitting 15psi around 3k range is not full boost but will still pull more then my shitty ko4! so id still feel the difference going to get some milk and eggs with a .63a/r lol

correct?

~15PSI in the low 3K RPM flowing 300+g/s... Holy shit.

What is your max flow at max boost?
