@ALPINEST4RS;

That definitely looks like the motor from the Fiat 500 Abarth. I read somewhere that that motor was a possibility for the next miata, looks like the rumors hold some weight.

If that is the fiat motor it's a 1.4L turbo putting down 160HP and 170 ft lbs of torque.

It looks just like it.

No shit... I bet that thing will be a blast to drive. I'd never own a miata. I'm too tall. The top of my head pokes above the windsheild haha!

Wow this is news to me. Do you know if that motor is only for the turbo version, or is it coming standard as N/A as-well?

I at least figured they would shoehorn a 2.0 or even the 2.5 in this for the base model.

The Miata owners who are tall actually make or purchase custom low brackets for bucket seats to drop the height down a good amount lol. Its pretty hilarious to see a tall person get out of the car.

Same article said it will most likely be a 2.0 skyativ motor for the NA model. That 1.4 will be an interesting addition supposedly the engine only weighs 250 pounds, that going to be one light ass car.

There are other reports of a cheaper base model Miata as well as a proper sports version. Sorry don't have the link right now, I think it was Wheels magazine Australia on Facebook where I saw it.

I am betting (as they were) that it's simply from the FIAT, Mazda will probably use their own engines, but maybe they will partner with Fiat for a turbo version, or you will just have to buy the Fiat version to get the turbo.

Also, have you sat in an NC, NB or NA? Or all three? How tall are you?

If me, all 3. I'm 6"1'. The NA is a fuggin nightmare. (I have a bad lower back). The NB sucks as well for me. Now the NC is alright, but its just too damn small I feel like I'm smashed in there haha. I think the speed is a little small myself, but thats me coming from A WK jeep, but the seat moves around enough for me to get comfy.

Ok, good to hear, I drive an NA and it's tight, I'm 5'11". I hear the NC has a lot more room though, just wasn't sure how tall you were.

Do you think so? I think awd (if it's even legit) would come standard on a speed model. The 3's would stay 3's and so on.

I think a speed should come fully loaded with diff interior colors.

Maybe a manual / auto option would set them apart too.

You're all dreaming - AWD for the speed only wouldn't make sense for them. The Speed only exists and makes sense because it's essentially a Mazda 3 with relatively small changes that don't alter manufacturing costs significantly. The Speed will only get AWD if it's available in the non-Speed model and I doubt that will happen.

It's the same formula for nearly every performance variant, no? They still have more in common with the economy car version that not...most of the different parts (brakes, suspension bits) are just bolt-in swaps on the production line. Hell, for the Speed 3 even the motor was a parts-bin affair just like the Civic SI.

The WRX/STI has been the same process too. I'd guess that only the EVO had significantly more parts that were unrelated to the economy version (like AWD) that bumped up their production and manufacturing costs. And Mitsubishi isn't necessarily a company to emulate...they are a mess.

They already have an AWD Mazda 3 in Japan, they also have essentially the same platform as the CX5 so it isn't impossible.
