(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score At the LA Auto Show, Mazda unveiled the next CX-9 with one notable—power aspect: a turbocharged 2.5 SkyActiv motor. Naturally, we couldn’t help but speculate about what this means for the new 2017 Mazdaspeed 3. What makes this motor special is that Mazda has officially tipped its hat at a factory turbo motor, which could […] More... |

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I am getting mixed messages, the aussie new channels keep saying no, I have heard otherwise, and this motor popping up says yes. The japanese new sources I look at are also still hinting that it will happen. I expect a rotary type surprise myself, an out of the blue here it is! -Derrick |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I don't know if I see a 2017 mazdaspeed 3 but what I do see is that now that they finally have proof of the speculated turbocharged 2.5 skyactive that we all were hoping for that now they have the means to make a 3rd gen happen. Hell even if they put it in the CX3 it would make people happy but I will keep my hopes up for the AWD 300+HP 3rd gen speed!

| Not Ranked : 0 score You guys may not remember but they never really announced the gen two. There was speculation that was never denied and then it just started showing up at dealers a couple months after the mz3 dropped. When I bought my car I had test driven a mz3 earlier in the summer and was looking used since the dealer didn't know what was going to happen. I would not be shocked at all if the gen 3 just showed up as a 2016

| Not Ranked : 0 score I wonder how much room will be left for extra power on the new skyactive turbo. It's pushing 227 at regular and 250 with premium gas, sounds like they are maxing it out safely. Ps. AWD will make me happy in pants.

| Not Ranked : 0 score I think there will be a next gen MS3. Its not an expensive car to devellop fpr Mazda. Everything is from the parts bin. And if AWD is on the CX3 I think we can hope for it on the MS3. What i'm dreaming about is a new MS6 with a ''performance'' version TDI that never happened. I'm weird like that. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score My question is if it's skyactiv...that likely means 14:1 compression ratio. My understanding is that turbo cars like lower compression like 9:1 or even 8.5:1. Wouldn't 14:1 be too dangerous to try to push more power out of it without upgrading internals, head studs, etc. This is just hiw I understand it, I could be way off on what I'm saying so feel free to correct me. On the plus side, I would love to see a 3rd Gen MS3 especially if it has AWD. It already appears like it will pack a punch as far as torque goes.

| Not Ranked : 0 score If that's the case then awesome. I was under the impression the whole skyactiv thing came to be BECAUSE of the 14:1 compression. But hell, if they make a good engine with AWD then I'm game.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Mazda has talked about super high fuel pressure for peak atomization being a large part of the skyactive engine design as well. You could say this was evolved from the DI cdfp on the disi so it's not a stretch for them to combine the peak development of their fuel pressure tech combined with the lower base compression needed for turbo and call it "skyactive-T" Once you're on boost your base compression is being multiplied to totals much higher than 14:1 - I'm kind of surprised companies aren't throwing peak compression ratio numbers around for their turbo motors for marketing purposes - they always seem to be on top of that kind of bs

The auto market has shifted to generally be more expensive. "Entry level" now means ~$30K+.

| Not Ranked : 0 score If they can get 250hp/310ft-lb tq from the SkyActive 2.5L with a predicted 29mpg highway in a 4,000+ lb vehicle, I think we can manage to get near 40mpg highway from a 3,200lb car. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

| Not Ranked : 0 score Nah. No chance it would be over 35 mpg. Unless you can produce an example of a powertrain in an SUV/CUV and a car that gets that much difference I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell.

You need to push the skinny pedal down farther then. I'm lucky to get 23 MPG out of my Juan, on pump gas with mostly highway driving. Of course, I do 80-85 the whole time...

I didn't blame the car for anything. I'm blaming YOU for not beating on your car like it wants because of the dirty whore it is. Hasn't James Deen taught you anything?

| Not Ranked : 0 score I can deal with a $30-35k car if the performance and quality is there, but I cannot justify a $40,000 Mazda3 when I can buy an S3 or M2 at not much more. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

| Not Ranked : 0 score Let's be real here. Mazda has had all the time in the world to release a new speed line up. The emergence of the Skyactiv tech pretty much ended any hope of another generation of speeds. The Skyactiv is a pretty amazing engine and they can stick in any other their cars without a turbo and be insanely profitable, which is what happened. Once that happened, the speed line up was more than likely considered by Mazda as a luxury and not a necessity for business. Obviously, we would all disagree being in a speed community but that's business I spose. Mazda is obviously content with letting the Miata be their flagship "sport" car and rightfully so since its been a fan favorite for generations. Gheys stick together!

Look at the wiki entry for Mazdaspeed. No Mazdaspeed, no 787B, no reputation based upon being the only Japanese LeMans winner, basically no performance reputation. Basically the end of Mazda as we know it and as currently marketed. Somewhere, someone in Mazda marketing realizes this. You're right that the lack of 'speed models is a business thing, no doubt in part by not having the Ford parts bin to choose from ('speed3 from brakes from a Volvo? Heh, not anymore you won't). Overall I think Mazda is just finding itself again, figuring out who they are and who they want to be now that the parts honey pot is gone. Difficult to say if Mazdaspeed as a consumer thing really will ever come back but I think that for Mazda to survive and be able to continue with their current marketing strategy it has to. I'd have to look around very carefully, but I know the RS would be high on my list if I were in the market for a new car. And if I liked the car at all, I bet once I dipped my toe into the more widely supported Ford shiz it might be difficult to go back.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Not true. The new CX-9 has a turbocharged version of the 2.5L SkyActiv engine with 250hp/310 ft-lb torque. This is still first gen SkyActiv technology. I am sure 300hp is attainable. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
