Default Corksport will not warranty parts I modified

Screw CORKSHIT!!!!! (VERY long read)-Original post restored by Raider
Here is an email that I just sent to Corksport and I thought you all might want to know how bad their quality control is. I ordered a few things this year from for my GenPU and have been very unhappy with the quality control coming out of Corksport.

I ordered a Coolant Tank, Battery Box. & hood struts that all had to be modified in multiple areas to make it work and I feel like it shouldn't have to be that way for the amount of money that I paid for each item and then I ordered a top mount intercooler and I have issues with it as well.

The Coolant Tank does bolt in like as the instructions said BUT the A/C line if left untouched would have eaten a hole in the line very quickly from rubbing on the corner of the tank. To fix this I had to modify the original bracket for the A/C line and mount it to a different location in the car to get it away from the coolant tank. Also, on the side of the tank neck (where the cap attaches) it is drilled for an overflow line but nowhere in the instructions or product description does it say anything about an overflow line. Most people would not notice this at first but as soon as it overflows the first time and it blows coolant all over the fender they will be pissed off. I had to create a solution for this to make an overflow line which took a lot of time to make a good clean solution.

Battery Box fitment is crap, the holes in the bottom of the box do not line up easily like it should and had to be opened up a little just to make it fit like the instructions. In the instructions it said that there was 4 bolts to attach the ECU to the inside of the box by reusing the 4 OEM nuts but in my package there was not 4 bolts so I had to stop in the middle and go purchase 4 bolts to finish up my car while it was completely tore apart and the corksport strut tower brace is resting on the new battery box.
Hood struts were a pain in the ass to put in because the brackets need to be marked as drivers side or passenger side to avoid confusion (no markings at all) so by the time that I was able to get the brackets mounted then to realized that they were on the wrong side when the struts got in a bind trying to open & close the hood I had to switch them. Upon taking them back out the bolts connecting the brackets to the fenders broke which then involved drilling out the bolts and the holes in my fenders and completely replacing all of the hardware for the brackets.

Top Mount Intercooler bolts to the car like instructed but as far as ease of reusing the factory cover (which is the only reason why I wanted this TMIC) is not going to be done without a fight. I understand that the backside of the cover will have to be ground down to be reused and that is not the issue. The issue is that there is a huge gap at the front of the cover where it attaches with the mounting bolts between the cover in the intercooler so now I am going to have to completely change bolts there and use a 1/4" to 3/8" spacer between to attach the cover properly and then at the back of the cover where the alignment (triangle) part of the cover is interfering with the corksport strut tower brace.
-
I feel like none of their parts are tested to work together whatsoever when a new part is released because if they were then I would not be running into half of these issues. On top of that I emailed Corksport to see if they will make it right considering what should have taken me 1 day to put everything in had to be stretched out over 3 weekends to get all of the parts installed.

I sent everything above to Corksport and this is what I received back after 2 days:

Lee,

Thank you for your feedback. I did not receive this information until this morning, so I apologize for the delays in response time. I have been looking over the issues you experienced individually with our engineering team, and did not want to send out contact until I had spoke with them.

I can understand your frustration, and would have hoped you would contact us before having to modify any of the parts, or replace the missing hardware.

It is not our standard for a customer to experience such difficulties, and we would have loved to work with you to get the proper parts sent out, replaced, or looked into the problems you were experiencing. I appreciate the feedback and criticisms and will be going over these individual problems to see in what ways and how we can implement changes for future customers.

As for resolution, I am unaware of how I can help you at this point, as returns of modified parts are not our standard. Please give me a heads-up on what I can look into doing to either earn back your trust, or at the very least part in good standing.

Please let me know if there is any way we can work together on this.

Cheers,
Kim Russell

My response to Kim:

Kim,

The only reason why I ended up having to modify the parts is because I am trying to get my car ready for multiple car shows coming up and don’t have time to send parts back and forth to get the right parts back and installed in my car before the shows. I understand that swapping out modified parts is not part of your policy but I wanted to let you know of everything that I had problems with so other people that purchase the same parts don’t run into similar problems that I did. I am not sure what would help gain my trust back because I have spent the last three weekends fighting with the parts trying to get them installed on my car. Currently the only thing that I still wanted to order from Corksport was one of the upgraded hood scoops but I missed out on them when they were released other then that my car is pretty much fully modded.

Lee

Kim’s response:

Lee,

Unfortunately we don't have any hood scoops available, and do not have a timeline for when we might have this part back in stock.

I once again thank you for your feedback and criticisms and will be working to better and resolve what you brought to our attention.

I apologize that we cannot accommodate your request, and that we were unable to work with you before modification of these parts for a smoother installation and better overall experience with CorkSport.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, and I'd be happy to look into what we can or can't do to remedy your situation.

Cheers,
Kim Russell

My response to Kim:

Kim,

Would Corksport be willing to give me some in store credit moving forward for all of the problems that I had after I just spent $900 on parts that all had to be modified to make work with my car?

Lee

After 24 hours and no response from Kim I sent the following:

Kim,

Since I have not heard back from you on the store credit email
that I sent previously I am guessing that is a no for an answer. If
that is the case then I will make sure and post all of the problems
that I have had with Corksports parts and customer service everywhere
that I can think of so that no one has to deal with the same headaches
that I have in the future and I wanted to let you know that I will not
be doing anymore business with Corksport in the future!

Lee

I WILL NOT BE BUYING ANYTHING ELSE FROM CORKSHIT AND I WANTED EVERYONE TO KNOW ABOUT THEIR SHITTY QUALITY BEFORE YOU GET BURNED TOO.

Looking at your signature and having so many Sure products on your car I'm guessing you gonna have a lot more problems coming your way with "quality parts"

Seems like they were trying to help. Maybe you should've called them first.

Being disrespectful to them like in your post, certainly won't make you any friends.

You kind of boned yourself modifying it.
I've had a CorkSport part not fit but, I sent it back before I bent it like a guerrilla and voided warranty and they got me handled. it wasn't their fault you had a car show. I mean, if you're putting the factory cover on it, how come you just didn't put the stock one back on? I'm pretty sure a hidden tmic didn't make the difference of you winning a trophy or something..

The parts not fitting if properly installed, CorkSport fault.

You voiding the warranty, your fault.

Likelihood of every part you installed not fitting only being manufacturer error, you be the judge.

Quality control could be a little tighter.

You could be less douchey

Corksport seemed more than willing to help, but you modified the parts. It's not their problem you had a "car show". Next time call them first and talk before doing anything. You fucked yourself by modding the parts.

On another note... you have a very small post count. It is not best to come in here swinging your dick, bashing one of the most reputable companies that support the speed platforms.

I would like to judge this and say not very likely. Especially when the rant about the hood struts included nothing but installer error.

I just feel like if you are going to sale parts for a car and your main focus is that your products all work together then make sure that there is no interference whatsover before releasing them to the public.

I do have a lot of Sure parts also and I will say that there fit & finish are miles above Corkshits and have not had one issue with Sure products whatsoever. Everything I have purchased past or present has been nothing but crap.

All the CorkSport items I've owned or own all fit with 1 exception. I'll let you in on a secret if you ever get one that doesn't fit. Call them before you modify it!

This didn't help your cause here, you're saying the opposite of what I can imagine is the general concensus around these parts .

If you were to have called Corksport when you encountered your fitment issues they would have done everything within reason to make sure you were satisfied with them and their products.

I bought a Corksport racepipe used from some random genone driver I met on the highway. I was concerned about fitment and if it was missing parts.

I called Corksport and within minutes had a piece necassary for proper fitment en route to my house with free shipping amd free stickers.

I explained to CS that I bought it second hand and still got great customer service. This has been my only experience with them so far but fags that go bashing them before giving them a chance only hurt themselves.

Theyre still gonna get my business.

The Corksport Battery Box is a bitch to get in but you don't have to widen the holes to make it work. I almost went that route, but found that if you loosen the fuse box a little you can get the holes to line up. I also did not get the four bolts with mine either but they are a common size, and I have a huge bucket full of metric bolts and nuts (Everyone who works on a car should have a bucket or a bag of random nuts and bolts).

I must be one of the only one who thinks fabricating parts is part of working on your car.

Why would you have to "modify" the AC bracket? Should have bent it slightly. I agree with Predapio, seems like they were trying to work w/you.

Houston Nator has had a LOT of quality concern issues with Corksport. Yes, they always stepped up and fixed things, but Lee's point remains the same: Your shit should work to begin with. I was not there, I have not seen the parts installed, nor have I ever seen Lee install parts. However, do not act like this is the first time a QC issue has come from Corksport... Their last few product releases have been nothing short of a joke... Perhaps he went about addressing his frustration wrong, but he is bringing up a few points he would like to share so others can avoid the same frustrations.

I am not necessarily agreeing with him, but all of you just hopping on the bandwagon aren't doing threads like this any good either. MSF always wants someone's blood, be it the OP or the vendor in question, no one can ever just have a productive, discussing thread.

I agree with this.

I've had 2 corksport intakes (through no fault of theirs....I've swapped a few times) that have been fine but no other parts personally. I know members here who have had issues with parts fitting through, and I've followed quietly with their bpv and internals releases that went less than stellar.

Having worked in both customer service and engineering I can assure you of a few things

1. Customer service has little to do with product development, testing, design, sourcing....that is left to the engineers.

2. Engineers don't always hear feedback from customer service on general product quality. Prototype parts can be vastly different from production parts and what worked in the lab or in a test sample does not always work the first time in the field

3. you having a problem with EVERYTHING you bought is not a company problem, it's a you problem.

4. I will NEVER work in customer service again as long as I can avoid it. I've sat through many diatribes like this over the phone where there was nothing I could do and a customer on the other end who didn't understand why a past-warranty, home dismantled machine couldn't be returned for a refund because they had problems never brought to us before.

I agree with you. OP went about this wrong for sure, and in this case, to me at least, seems like he is at fault.

That said, CS has had a few QC issues and recalls recently that make one worry about their parts. CS seems like a good company, and though I own zero CS parts right now (for no other reason than I just havent bought any) I like their stuff for the most part. I also really like that they (and SP36) are the only company I see out there making "new" parts for the mazda community. Cams, fuel pump internals, battery boxes, hood scoops. They are feeding a market with new ideas, and being the trail blazer has its pitfalls as you cant learn from the mistakes of others. In my mind, this gives them a bit of room for judgment, but to each his own.

This is the way I see it. I do own a few Corksport products and enjoy them and most likely will continue to do business with them again due to this.

However, I do understand some peoples' frustration whenever it comes to quality control. I remember threads written about air straighteners falling off, occ cans not working correctly, ... Corksport have always seemed to have great customer service, no matter the problem you may have with products, and always seemed to come with a solution or another to solve the problem. It's just the fact that you may have to encounter some issues with products you expect to work correctly out of the box.

Let's not sugar coat and edit down your OP as if you did not post this on Facebook last night, homeboy. If you are going to make a call out, do not edit it out after the fact to make it that you did not act like an ass.

As stated many times above, you fucked up my modifying the stuff to make em fit for a stupid fucking car show, instead of calling them. You cannot go back to Mazda with a blown motor because you went fully bolted without proper upgrades. And you cannot go back to Coksport with marts that were modified, asking for free repair.

This does not take away the serious issue at hand with QC and product release issues and fitment problems. It is seen.

And what happened to your sig? I do not see your SURE shit in there. You must not have had any Gorilla Arms or any motor mount from them. They fit the first time, as well as the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and on and on as the bushing fail.

Definitely handled it wrong. It's like he has no idea the process needed for contacting corksport. Umm, I modified your parts to make them fit, I'm just contacting you now after it's already been done. I want store credit for my troubles.

Give me a fucking break dude! I'm not a Corksport nuthugger by any means, but even I know the right way to contact companies, RIGHT AFTER YOU FIND OUT SOMETHING TO BE ILL FITTING OR WRONG. NOT AFTER YOU MODIFY THE PART. Seems to me that Kim was nothing but nice to you and here you are saying to her that since she won't give you store credit that you're posting everywhere about their poor customer service. Really? The customer service is what you're going to complain about? oh, that's right, since you didn't get your way getting store credit, you have a hissy fit and blame it all on the customer service. get real man.

Just as an fyi, I only have Corksport's ss clutch line on my car. That's the only part I have, and as for it being one of their cheapest (in price) products, they contacted me asking me personally what color I would want and how they'd ship it out immediately as they know I needed it. If anything, Corksport has the best customer service I've dealt with. Super nice people over there.

Raider, I did edit down the original post because I realized that I did handle it a little wrong and I felt bad about that and that is why the original post was edited.

Never did I ask for them to replace or repair the products that I had to modify and I understood when I modified them that the warranty on those products are null which I am ok with because I don't have time to deal with shipping parts back and forth to get parts that fit correctly for the amount of money they are charging for parts. My main goal for this post was to get my point across that their quality is not top notch like everyone thinks it is and to keep other members from running into the same issues I had in the future.

As far as my sig and my Sure parts I know other people have had issues with them in the past but I have not and their fitment and quality is far superior to Corksport. I am running Sure's mount package on my car and could not be happier with them.

When it comes down to it this posts intentions was to just share my experiences with a Vendor that is out there supplying is with aftermarket parts that we are spending our hard earned money on that does not meat the standards that it should. JMHO!

Now that I see the original post in full I'm no longer sympathetic in any way. Kim's response is as good as it can be given the situation. And for a small company a 24 hour email return is not always feasible. It's not ideal to communicate via email (I like it personally because it's easier to ignore than being screamed at...but I don't like customer service work) when there are few people working the emails who are also doing other jobs (like drawing shit on boxes to appease customer requests).

Pick up the phone and make a call next time. If you had 3 weekends to prepare your car for a show (and btw....lol on that one) then there was plenty of time to replace parts.
