Default CS exhaust manifold heat shield

Mazdaspeed Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield

It'd be cool if it fit aftermarket manifolds, I'm betting it sells well.

I'm guessing this wouldn't have any positive effects on BATs for TMIC setups.

I'm with him on that, actually. The OE heat-shields do a pretty good job of insulating the engine bay. They are also small enough that they allow air to flow through the intercooler and down past the downpipe and out to the bottom of the car.

Corksport's heat shield appears to block off a lot of that opening, as it appears to stretch the full width between the firewall and the head.

Because there's no mention of it on their store page, and I figured that would be a strong selling point if it did help.

I'm primarily thinking that the heat shield would heat up and eventually radiate up into the IC anyways.

True, but at least with the OE shields there's some airflow that can help mitigate that.

CS doesn't make any clams about this reducing under hood temps... it may catch few eyes at your next car meet though.

The stock one seems to be better... I can see heat rising from the CS logo.

The exhaust manifold heat shield was designed with aesthetics in mind, therefore we are not making any claims in performance.

If heat control performance is your only concern then this may not be the product for you, but of you are ok with a small compromise for a huge improvement in the look of you engine bay then this will make you very happy.

The OEM heat shield will most likely be the best performing (other than a custom blanket) because it is form fitted and double layer. I wouldn't worry about a chance for flow impedance caused by the CS heat shield because the pressure differential from outside of the car's front, to the engine bay, and then under the car is far more influential in controlling engine bay temperatures.

We have also seen plenty of pictures of peoples cars without any time of heat shield so we went forward with the project so that there is another option other than OEM or bare.

And to finish up, the CS heat shield is designed for the OEM exhaust manifold. We looked into designing it to fit other aftermarket manifolds, but it would have been nearly impossible to do so with the many different designs available. Also, no aftermarket manifolds retain the OEM mounting locations.

I hope this helps!

I ordered one. I'm FMIC and my OCD to get rid of that fugly OEM heat shield was overwhelmed by my sense of aesthetic appeasement.

I wass looking at it as going from no heatshield to this one where there is bound to be some improvement to bats. However you both looked at it as an upgrade relative to the stock heatshield, a scenario I did not consider but would agree that it would likely not improve bats.

I would think that a universal heatshield could be made for most manifolds which mounted to the studs instead of some mounting points.

Def a great option for the FMIC guys, I'd go this route if I wasn't TMIC. THE MZR DISI w/ the TMIC shroud off looks like a rats nest.

Next step, a CS wiring/HPFP/etc cover. I am not very big on parts that only focus on aesthetics, but the MS3/6-CX7 engine compartments with FMICs would certainly benefit from the clean look. And done in the right way/colour it would look much less 'modified'.

I guess the issue with a cover for that area would be fitting under the over-the-top FMIC piping.

I guess the issue with a cover for that area would be fitting under the over-the-top FMIC piping.
There already is a company that makes those; RD Motorsports. But I'm sure Corksport can manufacture something better than theirs.

Those actually all came off up top without a fight. There was only 2 manifold ones that were a pain.

Look who arrived a day early @Barett@CorkSport;

The metrics for this test will be to see how much jealousy it induces when I pop the hood. It's sometimes difficult to assign values to vagaries such as this, but I see the pained look on the Gen1 guys faces over the hood struts. I will use that as a reference point

The only disappointing part of my purchase was no one at CS made any indication they noted how I found out about their products. Meeting @Barett@CorkSport; at a seedy truck stop restroom by dialing his number on the bathroom stall was completely omitted.

I will get that on the webpage as a drop down selector option right away.
