It Has Begun Looking at the Mazda corporate news feed this morning the news of the Mexico plant producing its first vehicle prompted the REM song, “it’s the end of the world as we know it” to play in my head. The plant is a Mexico plant (known as MMVO) which will be making the […]

It's still the same parts, just put together by different people, so I don't think it matters one bit personally where the final assembly point is. Hell, machines put most of it together anyway.

While I don't think the location of the fabrication matters, as someone who has had some manufacturing experience, I would be more concerned about the fabrication line being brand new.

The old fab in Japan has been up and running for quite some time with a proven level of reliability. The new fab line will likely have a lot of "growing pains" and there is likely to be a few issues until they sort those out. Likewise the brand new design of the 3 is likely to have a couple bugs to work out. That is why I never like to by a car in the first model year of a new design, and especially not one in the first year of a new fab line.

Mexico is a North American country, therefore they can put a sticker on it that says "Made in America" if it will keep everyone happy.

I have no problem with this, the days of individual countries having their own isolated economies and markets is over and has been for some time. Ford makes plenty of cars in Mexico and Canada, many Japanese, Korean, and German cars are made in the US and many cars we buy here were produced around the world. This is the way the world works now.

A true point. We (In the USA) aren't the only Americans, as much as we like to believe we are.

Well, it's not that I'm saying that Mexico isn't the best place to live, but it's definitely not the worst place to build cars. You guys already have plenty of cars built in Mexico already on the streets.
The main one that I can think of right now are Volkswagens. The Jetta, Golf, GTI, R32, Beetle including all their versions even the RSi with the R32 engine), Nissan March, Nissan Murano, Nissan Sentra... My point is that it's just a place where things are built, and in my personal opinion if it's a japanese company I doubt they would sacrifice their own methodologies and culture to risk it by some dudes assembling car parts without any guidance.
I've driven cars built from all places around the world, in my personal opinion the worst places to build cars are Brazil and China, but then again, that's just me.

I live very close to the Mazda Assembling factory in Salamanca, Guanajuato. If anyone wants to come down visit let me know. I'd like to go visit too!
