All the other forums I have been on people usually quote people when asking a question. You all seem to do it differently I guess.

It is common for these pumps to rattle even if they are stock. If you are listening for it you will hear it. My 2012 Focus was pretty noisy and so was my 2008 'Speed. All with stock internals. Now my 2013 is pretty normal sounding, but I am sure with age it will get louder. Part of the beast I believe. As long as my Corksport internals do not fail and hold up for the long run, a little noise is tolerable.

As posted above, it seems the Autotech users have just gotten over it...

Speaking of rattles (and pseudo on topic) has anyone with CS internals also had AT internals and how did they compare (noise wise) the analysis I saw regarding CS internals had to do with volume/pressure but noise would potentially be another, I picked my AT internals up used and they have worked great for 35k miles, they squeal a bit in the winter when it is cold and my ‘racecar’ clacks more like a diesel now but I assumed this was the cost of having higher load on the cam/follower/spring...

This is also something I've been curious about. I want to see someone post a video with excellent sound quality of KMD vs CS vs AT. It'd be interesting.

I've the CS ints. Recently i realized that I could hear the tip-in rattle a lot more than I wanted to, and it started to annoy and worry me after reading this thread.
Then I changed my oil - went from PU 5w30 (us) to PU 5w40 (euro) the rattle reduced by at least 50% - now i can only hear the tip in rattle if i listen closely, and i only had 1000 miles on the 5w30 when i changed it.

Apparently not. And before the change I could even hear them slightly at constant partial throttle, so I was getting a bit paranoid. Is it possible that different oils can have that much affect on the noise? I believe I recall reading a thread where the euro PU meets more anti-wear standards than the US spec, which cares mainly about emissions. Perhaps they're on to something. Or maybe I'm way off and the difference is that now the gas stations are providing crappy winter gasahol and it's gumming things up and quieting them down nicely. Who really knows?

Though the OP had some legitimate sound from his HPFP, I've had a huge influx in people calling me, and emailing me and mentioning that they have the sound, I used to get this call about once ever three months, now I get it about 3 times a week. Every person who has pulled theres has not had issues yet. I think people are just becoming paranoid after they read this. It could possibly be the oil, or a VVT, or just standard noise that they started hearing differently because they were trying to hear something different.

In other words, though there might be legitimate issues, every single person I talked to so far since this has been posted has not had an issue, and it was probably just the reverse placebo affect.

Yes, different oil weights can have
a pretty decent effect on noise.

reviving this only because my ATs are driving me nuts and this thread has convinced me to pull the pump since the car is down for the winter anyways. Went from some chatter at tip in(few seconds until stable throttle) to constant chatter anywhere from 1800-3000 rpms partial throttle. Logs show no pressure issues. Loud enough that my neighbor could hear it driving by. Might be normal and I'm just anal, but my gut is thinking either issues with the internals or maybe a worn cam follower/cap. I'll update when I pull them apart, probably be a good gauge for others.
