MS6 Short Shift ?

So got a little drunk tonight and finally tried to install my CS shift plate I've had sitting around for months. Turns out, I've got an oldie but a goodie. The directions say older production models won't have the mounting bolt (Nov2005 I think? damn thats old). No bolt so I've got to drill.

Now before I go putting holes in the shifter I want to make sure I get it in the right spot. If I bank it up against the vertical metal support, the cutout doesn't quite line up and the plate doesn't fit as far back. I have some pics attached. If I pull the plate back and slide the shifter into the cutout I'm a good 1/8" off the vertical support.

Am I ok to mount it a little forward like in the pics or do I need to shave off some more of the indent to slide it back?

You bet, Just make sure it is banked up against the side. This will keep it from twisting over time. The motion is only really front and back so it is unlikely to twist but this will be a stop. I also put a dab of loctite on the threads of the bolt as a just in case also.

Sorry just so Im clear, mount it how its shown in the pics? It is banked up against the vertical support and pushed "back" as far as it will go before hitting the shifter.

The banking is the most important part. Because it is not exactly like the later versions of the sifter the cutout wont match 100% So bank it and then quick a good place for a hole.

Got it. thanks for the quick replies guys. I was just a little worried I might mess up the shift geometry, because I wasn't lining up with the cutoff. Makes sense though that I have the different, older version of the shifter and the cutout might line up a little different. Should get it put together today.
