Nice! If I didn't already have the CP-e I would have considered this one. Nice how you can convert it to an SRI. Kinda curious who the "competitor" is that you are comparing to. I'm thinking it must be AEM/Mazdaspeed because CP-e doesn't make those kind of improvement claims (+33 hp).

Injen specifically makes the 33hp claim for their CAI.

What is the diameter of the piping? I just ordered it anyway but if it is 3" that would be awesome. Also like @rfinkle2 said a 3" MAF and 3" inlet would be great.

Pretty sure it's a 2.5" turbo inlet; I don't believe Corksport makes a 3". You could always get an HTP one for about the same price if you really want a 3" but then you gotta relocate the ECU. I have their 2.5" and it's nice

I know about the SRI and TIP, was just hoping the CAI portion was 3"

The CAI portion is 3 inches.

The CAI is sold as an apples to apples version without the TIP to go against the Injen and AEM intakes out on the market.

If you add the TIP (which there is an option to do this) the price for the complete intake CAI to TIP is $349.

We knew people would want to add the CAI to existing SRI intakes so we setup the separate option to buy just the cold air part at $99.

On my 2012 MS3 the fender liner is not vented like first gens. Thus is the only cold air, or outside air being pulled through the small triangle opening in bottom corner of the grill? Obviously, the cold air intake is pulling the air from a lower location in the engine compartment so the air will be denser since heat rises. However, since there is no air box; a certain amount of air must be pulled from the engine compartment at WOT.

Lastly, did your testing results determine if your cold air or short ram with intake box resulted in the lowest inlet air temperature?

I cannot speak for the CAI but the SRI/TIP with cold air box runs damn near if not at ambient most of the time(Maybe +1-2* at times). And I live a stones throw from Hell's front door in the summer.

We had almost identical results on temps from the CAI and the SRI with Cold Airbox.

Yes there is air pulled at WOT from the engine bay area but at that point all the air is being drawn from the outside of the car. The real difference is stop and go or lower speeds. Once you drive for a bit engine air is very close to outside air.

If converted to a stage II intake, the CARB exemption would apply, yes.

They'd probably have to shell out another $10K or so for CARB of give them a separate EO# for what amounts to about a foot of pipe.

As long as there is a CARB number on some part of the intake your smog guy probably isn't going to give you any trouble even with the CAI portion attached.

Assuming you tested on the same vehicle and the same day, did the CAI or SRI with Cold Air Box resulted in the coldest air intake temperature?

Since the CAI doesn't have a box, it will be less restrictive at WOT?

Does the Cold Air Box still pull part of air from the stock inlet system? If not can it be left intact so I can plum the outlet into the air box?

The cold air intake would likely be slightly colder in the summer and pretty much identical in the winter (dependent on where you live of course)

No. There is nothing stopping the flow of air on either one of them so there should be virtually no difference.

It does not pull from the stock system. You would have to build something to connect the two but most of the factory stuff can be left in. Obviously the stock intake box must be eliminated.
