Default Short Shifter Review (2010 MS3) - MazdaBoy2.3

My review of the CS Short Shifter - CORKSPORT Adjustable Short Shifter

Purchased the short shifter on Monday and received it on Wednesday! Considering it was traveling from once side of the country to the other, I was very happy to see it so quickly. Thank you @Spencer@CorkSport; !

As always, @CorkSport; is top notch with its packaging.

The provided instructions were very clear, although the time estimate of 1 hour may be a bit ambitious for the first run at it. I would plan for closer to two if this is your first time taking it all apart.

Here are some pics to give you an idea of what it looks like installed (at shortest length)

I gave it a go with my @maisonvi; shift knob and had to actual raise it a bit. Hand was hitting plastic surround.

Driving impression: shifts feel much more solid, and a large amount of the "play" has been removed. I have it set to the shortest throw and really close to the shortest height, and it shifts like butter.

Corksport short shifter - 2010 MS3:

CS shifter - a Little more aggressive:
Recommendations: At a price of $200 this should include the small amount of the lithium grease that is reccomended. Also, the plastic clip shown below is a scary little bugger, I could easily see it being broken during install as our cars age and the plastic becomes more brittle. I would have gladly paid more $ in order to have a new one of these included.

Should you buy it? If you want to improve your shifts this is a must have. We will see how it holds up, but my initial impressions are incredibly positive.

Will update through out the day...at work...

I've been considering one of these for a while. I like the finish on it a lot. That wouldn't be my sole reason for getting one but still it looks damn sexy!

If I ever got rid of the car and the next owner opens up the center console, they will probably thinking someone was murdered in it. Haha

I don't beleive @CorkSport; reccomends the use of both. I will say that I have used a SSP in the past and definitely prefer this over it. I'd sell the SSP and upgrade to this personally.

Thanks for the review! Really appreciate it!

You can certainly use a Short Shift plate with it, but it might be incredibly short throw, and possibly not catch all the gears. You might get locked out.

I've been using a TWM SSP with my short shifter since it was released. It is definitely short. I had to use the shortest throw setting and adjust the shifter cable in order for it to make its way through all the gears. It's been great.

I added a video of a little more aggressive run through the gears. Roads are still cold/damp so can't give it the full thrashing yet ;-)

You're not wrong about that plastic clip, i was just about at the point of give up and put the stock set up back in, added an extra 45 mins of install time trying to get that bitch off and i broke around 4 of the tabs off.
If the kit came with that clip would be so much quicker and easier to just break the original one off.

Didn't see the question asked yet I'll be the one to do it. Will this fit the ms6? Hope so I hate only having one option.

Good write up. Ive had mine since shortly after release in my 2013. Love it. still get the occasional 3rd gear grind but nowhere near as frequent as before. Shifts are definitely more solid. Only problem i ran into was the guide pin for the reverse lockout, popped out and fell into the carpet under the center console. loctited it in so hopefully it stays now.

Cool, good to hear another solid review. I know our engineers were told about the few people who mentioned the guide pin popping out, so I assume we have started adding loctite or something.

Put mine in about two weeks ago. Shifts great, a little goofy looking without the offset, but best part is adjustable height. I no longer smash my pinky and turn off the climate control whilst shifting.

just put mine in too.

Broke the clip, but only broke a small portion of it off and was able to still use it.

So far the only problem I've encountered is disorientation with 1st and reverse.

But other than that, I really like this shifter.

Yeah that clip is a straight up motherfucker to get off. I spent longer on it than the whole rest of the install. If someone could source or make just that clip so we could just destroy it when disassembling, working on the shifter would be 100 times easier.

Got mine in and it helped a lot during track day at Hallett OK. Found a good trick to remove the clip without breaking it. Got me a small zip tie and started threading it under the tabs unit it started to thread under itself to get all the tabs to swell evenly until you can pull it with your hand. I used a small needle nose plier to help to carefully keep pushing the zip tie in.
