Default What do you want in a real Mazdaspeed shifter??

We're working hard on an amazing shifter. If you got to choose whatever features you wanted on a shifter for your speed, what would you want???

One that's not $250+

Other than that I've been wanting this for a while and I'd buy it in a heart beat. Kinda tired of the "full replacement" when other cars just have the shifter.

Our price target will be $169-179. I don't think much cheaper will be possible.

Something that removes the slop in the shift. There's way too much lateral play in the mechanism once the transmission is in any particular gear.

What i'm looking for:
Something to get rid of the stock shifter slop

Something that won't fall apart(i see you are using the threaded holes for multiple cable adjustments like the cobb)

One that won't eat up the stock plastic shifter housing on the gen 1.
or if it has a chance of eating it provide something like the seriouspeed plate.
http://www.seriouspeed.com/seriouspe.../i-541335.aspx

EDIT: i'd also like to see a perch for the shift boot.

I want something that "clicks", kinda like a subie, but I don't want something that fucks up(breaks) the shifter cables or shift forks.

look at the design in the picture it's the same basic design as the cobb shifter with the 2 allen bolts clamping the threaded shifter rod. it looks like it's going to be height adjustable.

After hearing about people breaking the shift cables and all that crap. I was curious as to if there could be a hydraulic shifter? Figure it would take out a lot of slop as well. Anyhow, that would be pimp as shit and I'd buy it.

I've never driven a subaru that clicks. Or I'm not sure what that means. I think the big difference is Subarus use a shifter that is directly attached to the transmission that move metal rods to change gears. The MS3 use a cable shifter so there is always something lost in feeling.

It is height adjustable, slight less side to side movement and adjustable forward and back. But it is not the same design as the cobb. There will only be machined surfaces that touch the factory pieces. So no need for a plate like seriouspeed.

YES. Oh, and maybe my Outback clicks but that could be anything.

How much height adjustment will be available? I'd like to be able to adjust it to near stock height if possible.

height adjustable externally? (as in, we don't have to take apart the center console to get under the mechanisms?) Not a big deal. just wondering.

and yes, anything that works on a mazdaspeed6. i will buy this even though i swore to my local nator crew that the coilovers arriving tomorrow was the last purchase, LOL.

If you guys want less slop, at minimum the entire shifter base needs to be replaced (e.g. The TWM MS3 full replacement shifters), but really the issue is the cables. Nothing really can be done about that. The design of the chassis and trans don't lend themselves for metal shift rods, and unless you want to convert the engine to mount longitudinally, you can't mount the shifter directly on the trans.

The only novel thing CorkSport could do is add adjustable shift knob height.

Nope, I thought about an external adjustment but it seemed too complicated. You can pop the trim up with out tools so it is not that hard to adjust.

The "last purchase" doesn't make any sense to me. Is there such a mythical creature?

Is it not possible to have a hydraulically actuated shifter? Would it not take out the slop?

My god i hope this works for the 6. My cullens penis plate works fine, but id love some CS in me.

Clicking into gear would refer to removing side to side play while in gear AND refining the gates. While i agree, i dont think tge sloppy shifter is the shifter. Its either the cables and or the gate/shift selector tree.

I think some play reduces grinds and misshifts.

However, @Joel@CorkSport; could you guy consider removing and studing the gate tree on top of transmission? Its easy to remove and there are how to's here. I think there is refinement here for those looking for less slop.

Edit:
Shift seal v 10324992349823492394

Edit 2: shift by wire transmissions are always crappy. The speeds arent too bad. I think of my wife's mother's Ford Ka in germany. Each gear had like 3-5 inches of play. Shifters directly mounted will always be more refined and crisper.

It's possible, sure. But that would be a lot of cost and work, and I don't think many people would pay for it.

you should make a sequential shifter (i think stillway made one for the FD) for the drag racers in the bunch.

if you figured it out, im sure the FD folks would enjoy one as well.

Thats a whole different price point though. i think the fd stillway one was close to $1000 (or that is what people pay for it because it is very rare and hard to find now)

Oh, i agree it's not hard to pop up, i just cant stand doing it. car is getting old, those clips are starting to wear and i'm sure will start snapping off rather than unclipping. Was just wondering, no big deal if it isnt. thanks for answering back

YES. Oh, and maybe my Outback clicks but that could be anything.
How would a machine surface prevent the ware of the stop that forces you to push down for reverse?

Make one for the MS6, we're dying out here!

Also, perhaps a strong spring to bring the shifter back to "center" when in neutral, I think would be beneficial for a seamless 2/3 speed shift

It needs to be adjustable for stock height at least. I would prefer it to be adjustable for higher during autocross and road racing but at least stock is a must. I would also like stiffer return springs as stated above. Shift stops would also be a huge plus. This would go a long way to creating a better feel.

For anyone saying they want a click/gated or slightly notchy feel.- Remove the shift weight on the transmission. Its freakin awesome. I also have a light weight shift knob and with the xt-m5-qs it just clicks right into gear.

Just remove the shifter weight completely? lol
My bro has the cobb-counter weight on his and when shifting it sort of clicks in.
I have the JBR weight and mine is more of a smooth feeling.

I tried removing it completely. It was a lighter feel but there was more interference going into gear.

That's the "notchy" feel people mention, and it's the reason the weight is on there to begin with. Some people like it notchy, others smooth. It's all personally preference.

Everybody and their brother makes heavier shift knobs. Does the same thing as a heavier counterweight.
