From a 3 to a 6

Just curious. How many ms6 owners started in an ms3 and sold or traded for an ms6? Would you guys consider this a trade up? Or a lateral move? I'm not asking about the differences, I kinda know the differences or at least could go find them out.

its not a move up or down in any direction. Both cars offer different driver experiences and feel.

That was the true purpose behind me posting this thread. I love my ms3 but i jumped into buying one (after researching it and determining it was definitely the car I wanted) but 6 months later I realized I never even considered an ms6 so I was curious if anyone ever starts in a 3, learns more about the platforms, then goes for a 6.

I never looked at the MS3 and after at least 4 test drives in the Legacy GT and GT spec.b I kept coming back to the MS6 for the simple difference in rear passenger leg room. In the spirit of getting as much zoom zoom as I can while still mounting a car seat and not getting kicked in the head by my daughter, the MS6 was the only option that wasn't German and somewhat affordable.

There are a few on this forum that have gone from an ms3 to a 6. One member even had both cars at the same time. I feel each car is going to have their pros and cons. If you feel the heavy urge to get a ms6. Go test drive and see what you think

I started out looking for a MS6 before getting my MS3. At the time, i was looking for space and speed. The speed6 I found was slightly modded. On the day I went to buy the speed6, it was sold that morning. Then I waited 1 week, a black Mazdaspeed3 popped out. for less than 16k with 22k miles, rust free and completely stock. And they offered 11k for my Mazda3 :]

Till this day. I regret not getting the Mazdaspeed6. But I sure did get a great deal on my Mazdaspeed3.

AWD is hard to beat...

It's a nice security to have knowing you will maintain usable traction as you get more power mods lol

I wouldn't of gone any way but MS3 in this point in my life though, both are pretty low key sleepers, but I would have too much confidence and be more wreckless if I had awd lol

+ side to fwd: underdog factor, fun beating people while in the slowest wheel drive configuration.


I didn't know the interior was so nice on the MS6 until I saw triple jumpers though... were those white leather seats i saw?

im one of those that totaled their ms3 and bought a ms6. The reason i jumped shipped was cuz my wife didn't want me to buy another "sports car" that i can play around with after work. She didn't know anything about the mazdaspeed 6 and thought the car i came home with was just a regular mazda 6.

I missed my 3 when my 6 was bone stock, but now im very happy. I used to go back and forth as to which one i like better and and gave up trying to decided because i realize both cars compliment each other. Both cars can easily be as fast as each other once you start modding.

I thought the MAZDASPEED line was only offered for the car for two years, but the speed3 broke that rule - probably due to sales.

Strange they had no MAZDASPEED RX8 before the plug was pulled on the model.

Coming from Subarus I can say that the AWD is way better in the Subaru, but the interior is much nicer in my MS6. Like others have said there are pros and cons. If overall comfort and performance are the most important than the MS6 is tough to beat, but if power is the only concern look elsewhere. But a comparable Legacy GT SPEC B is going to still run 25k + used. The fact that I picked up my MS6 GT for 13K, the decision was very easy to make. It's just much more refined and tamer than the MS3 and WRX.

Before buying my Speed6 i test drove the 07 speed3....felt good but being front wheel drive i thought about rain and snow and the care needed in corners while accelerating, plus the lack of a sunroof kinda sucked...because of my work i needed to be able to have a fair chance of getting to work in inclement weather...was about a year later that i found a Speed6 GT that had everything i needed...definitely no regrets in the decision....

There is a white RX-8 driving around my city with a Mazdaspeed decal on his sideskirts. After looking at the specs for what was SUPPOSED to be the MSRX-8, me thinks he just badged it. It looks like any regular 8, and the MS version was a little lower and had a visible air dampening system (front lip, underbody, and active spoiler), as well was RAYS wheels. That car was also ~$40K.

The guy around here used to rev at me in passing. Then I caught him one day at a stop light with double turn lanes which led onto the highway. What a joke the RX-8 is. It might handle a little better, but my stock Speed is SO much faster that the slight handling advantage is null. I ass fucked him, no lube, everywhere he followed. Mazda failed pretty hard on that one.

I had a MS6, that got hit by some fucking cunt, Bought a MS3 felt cheap, not as fun to drive as a MS6 so I traded back to a MS6. Do I miss the 3 alittle but I think the MS6 feels better, more soild on the road.

I test drove both before i bought my 09 speed3 in September of 08. I actually wanted the speed6 more, but I wanted to start fresh with a brand new car.

I mean my speed 3 was still wrapped in plastic when I bought it. It had 1.1 miles on it lol.

Knowing your the only person who has put every single mile on your car is worth having fail wheel drive.

I've actually been considering this for awhile now. I've been wanting awd but I don't like the sedan look of the 6 and I don't want to part out lol.


Reason being is traction. I am going bt soon and I'm hesitant to having 380-400whp going to the front wheels. It seems a little excessive. I feel awd in the 6 would be a lot more fun to drive.

I had an 07 Mazda6i and started looking for a Speed6. Unfortunately, prices were way more than I wanted to spend and luckily found a ridiculous deal on an un-modded Speed3 with only 10,000 on the odo. Plus it had the mazda extended warranty till Oct 2014.

I still wanted a speed6, but it came down to money. If my speed was destroyed tomorrow, I'd prob look for a speed6, but end up with an STI
