Pair of washers should do the trick. I had some spares laying around. Prevents the brace from arcing along the sides of the battery.

After five years and ten months, it's finally time to replace the original battery in my GEN1. I'm amazed that it's lasted this long. Looks like I'll be going with a Duralast Gold.

New poster here, just found this post.

My OEM battery died 2 years after I bought the car new. I then purchased an OEM Mazda battery from my dealership with a 3 yr warranty, it's already showing signs of failing.

So are the red top batteries good to go for 1st Gen MS3? Should I look for an alternative?

Optima sucks. I burned through a bunch of them. Have a Auto Zone Duralast Gold and it has been solid for at least 3 years no problem.

I know there's a big Interstate Battery center near me but I don't know if their batteries are any good.

Damnit, turned the color of poo again...

Had my Duralast Gold replaced under warranted recently...for whatever reason, they got rid of the different colored top covers.

I just went through this and my stock battery finally died on my 2009. I went with costco because of price and no pepboys warranty BS (pay $15-20 to install or else warranty is not valid). Did the swap in costco parking lot and it only cost ~$75 with core exchange, I believe it was #3 battery. Car starts without hesitation.

Agreed with the crappy Optimas. I've had a durlast gold since 2011. Not one problem or signs of failure.

The battery type is: 35-DLG

Well worth the money you pay for it. 10 year prorated warranty i believe.
