Default Coolant issues

Car regularly hits 243 according to the AP, which I'm assuming is the max for the sensor since I've never seen higher? The gauge maxes out sometimes. It always seems to happen once on startup after 5 mins then it's normal. Runs around 200-220 on the highway. Ideas? Thermostat? Could it possibly still be an air bubble since I had the turbo replaced? Or not enough coolant? I'm going to add some when I get out of class tonight but wanted ideas.

When was the last time you burped the coolant?

I'm having mixed emotions responding to your post. I strongly considered ignoring. Maybe I should have.

You "regularly" drive a vehicle that is more or less overheating. Strike One
Your next few questions are legit...then you ask if there's not enough coolant, SMH. Strike Two
Then, why would you add coolant if you don't even know if it needs any (see strike two)? Strike Two and a Half

You're not in high school anymore, apparently. You learn some of these simple things on your first car in high school. Maybe I was one of those many underprivileged kids that had a crap car my first go and had to fix it myself with my own money. Some kids/not kids these days hardly turned a wrench their whole life or even know where the oil goes.
Rant over.

Your coolant bottle has a HOT and COLD line for coolant level.

I've been around this forum for a little while. It was my turn to be a dick. I'm good now

You can be a dick it's fine, doesn't bother me, I wrote this after sitting in city traffic and was nervous.. you do not want to breakdown in Newark NJ. I had a truck that would short and the Temperature gauge would regularly pin itself so I hoped it could be something like that.(also FOMOCO) . If steam wasn't pouring out I kept driving. Never got that far. Right now I'm guessing my mechanic didn't spend much time burping it when the turbo was done as it needed quite a bit of coolant.

And my first car was a 1988 Pontiac.......lots of things needed fixing on that.

85 camaro, right there with ya.

When I did my turbo swap, there was air trapped somewhere. Repeatedly squeezed the upper coolant hose while it was running to try and CPR the air pocket out of it.

Youve been driving around at elevated temps but not boiling over, so I think you have flow. You just need to top off the radiator when it's cold and make sure the bottle has plenty in it.

I would get any suspected air out of the system before I drove it again, and then I would change my avatar.

Added half a gallon and tried to burp it some, huge improvement. No longer returning to that mechanic.
