Curt Class I hitch and wiring harness

A couple months ago, my wife bought me the Curt 11386 Class I hitch and Curt 56011 PNP wiring harness for me for the MS3, so I can tow my standup jetski.

The hitch went in without issue (except for a few swears), fits beautifully and is hidden when the tongue is not installed - you can barely even see the hitch without bending over. The only issue with the hitch the way it comes from Curt is the fact that the included tongue (which has a 6-8" drop or thereabouts) is WAY too low on the MS3...almost ground scraping low. But a quick trip to AutoZone and $10 later, a straight tongue fixed that issue.

Regarding the PNP wiring harness...I have a GT model MS3 with the LED taillights, so I was worried that the load from my incandescent lighted trailer would be too high for the MS3 electrics to handle. Well the install went very easily (everything is still PNP with LED tails), and the trailer lights worked excellent...for the first couple months that is.

But recently I started experiencing some oddities. Whenever I turn on my left flasher or use the brake, my dash dims like the car thinks the headlights are on. I associate this with the incandescent lights either drawing too much load or having too much resistance, which tells the ECU that the excess load is the headlights on, so the interior lights dim? That is entirely a guess, but regardless, I've ordered LED submersible trailer lights to see if that fixes the problem.

Anyways, this whole thread was simply a recount of my experience for those who are looking to tow with their Speeds. I have absolutely no issue towing in general - the car has more than enough power to tow 800-1000lbs and under IMO, and to back down launch ramps without worrying about getting out. If you have the GT model, though, make sure you have LED trailer lights (I can confirm this in a week or so when I get mine), but the Curt wiring harness plugs right into the existing connections.

The MS3 can tow fine with the Curt Class I hitch, but the GT model has issues with incandescent trailer lights.

I have the same setup (exact), since approx. 2 years.
GT, with the plug and play. No issues like you on the dimming.
LED trailer light kit would be a good fail safe on power draw.

Do you tow a boat/jetski? Reason I ask is because I submerge my current trailer (which doesn't have sealed lights) and wonder if the water is whats causing the high load.

Very few people ever unplug that I know of. Only reason to unplug is for powered brakes.

I just unplug because it only takes a few seconds and it reduces the potential for some cheap ass trailer lights to cause problems with the vehicle's electrical system.

No, actually all i tow is my bike, but my trailer lights are not water proof either.
Reason why i avoid being in the rain when towing.

But if i was submerging, would definitely disconnect, as a precaution, knowing lights are not water proof.
Better to be safe.

Edit: Another thought: Could try using clear silicone around mating surfaces and screws to help waterproof the lights.

Why didn't you just flip the supplied Curt tongue over??

If I used a straight tongue on mine (with most trailers, that is) it'd be too low... Is your trailer super low to the ground??
